With only a few days to the first preseason game against the Browns, thought we can discuss something different than the usual Eli/Odell/Barkley threads.
Just how exactly can we pull off the upset against Jacksonville? Well this guy, Brett Kollmann posted today an in depth look at the Jaguar's defense tendencies and how to exploit them in 4 categories. Basically in his mind with all the weapons at our disposal it's up Pat Shurmer and his staff to see these and exploit them. In other words, where this team goes this season is the game plan constructed by Shurmer and not the roster. Take a look at the vid for yourselves and discuss, it's about 20 minutes long. Enjoy and go Giants.

It's a 3 point spread. Not much of an upset if the Giants win the game.

Weren't the Jags a bad team in 2016? Now all of a sudden they're world beaters? Yet the Giants were 11-5 in 2016, stank last yr & now they're the bad team? I really don't see it being this "huge" upset if the Giants beat them. 2010 was the last time they even had a 500 record when they went 8-8. They won 5-2-4-3-5-3 games in each of the next 6yrs prior to going 10-6 last yr.

What do you mean, "Upset"? One team was a 3 win team last season, the other was in the AFC championship game. Kinda speaks for itself but still have confidence they wont play scared of the Jags defense.

I really don't see it being this "huge" upset if the Giants beat them. They will never be world beaters with Blake Bortles as their QB. The AFC game in the second half last year proved to me the coaching staff had no confidence in him. I can be impressed with their defensive tenacity and still root for the Giants to win. The video shows how we can do that in great detail and if we do have the right coach in Shurmer.

What do you mean, "Upset"? See mrmaad's comment. It would be a big upset if the Giants win that game.
The Jag's were one step away from the SUPER BOWL.
The Giants were one step away from the TOILET BOWL.
I know they both have bowl in the name but they are really different.....

the game changes dramatically year to year. We really don't know what changes have been made league wide, what alternations the Jags made and what both the Giants offense and defense will look like this year.
A bit premature IMO

Are you sure about that (Super Bowl vs. Toilet Bowl)? To me a Bowl's a Bowl.
I expect the Giants to have an edge over most opponents in the first couple of games, because this team will be an overwhelming offensive enigma (assuming the O-Line holds up) until the rest of the League has had a game or two to assess it.

Beating Blake Bortles while he’s on the road is not exactly Mission Impossible. If the Giants pressure D gets pressure, it can definitely happen.
No doubt the Jags were the better team last year.
It remains to be seen if they are as good this year.

A bit premature IMO And yet with your statement the Pats, Steelers, Panthers, Falcons, Packers (Rodgers not injured) can make the playoffs consistently with those changes. I'd call that both good/great coaching and solid front office. Perhaps the Giants will be in this bracket starting this season onward, we'll see.

Now folks, myself included will see him as the weak link from them ever winning a Superbowl regardless of the defense and Fornette.

100% sure. I'm as big of a Giant fan as anyone on here. The Jags were a few plays away from beating the Pats and going to the Superbowl. The Giants were so bad they were rewarded with the 2nd overall pick in the draft. Do I think the Oline will improve? Yes, but it will take time and Jags Dline can cause good Olines fits, let alone Olines that have been reconstructed. Remember, the Giants still have one of the worst tackles in the entire league. Also, who knows how the new defense will perform? In short, the Giants have a lot more question marks compared to Jags and IMO would be a big upset for the Giants to pull out a W in this game.

Jags D from 2011-2016 was ranked: 29-28-26-31-25. Then last yr #2. In 2016, Giants D was ranked #2 behind only NE. Let's not act like their D has been consistently a top 5- 10 D for the past 6+yrs like the Seattle D has been. They had a great yr defensively last yr as we did in 2016, guess what, we won 11 games & they won 10. Who's to say their D doesn't go from top 5 to middle of the pack this yr? The injury bug could KO 2-3 starters this yr & that could cause them to stumble into being just a good to decent D. This "it would be a huge upset" if we win card is laughable. I for one am hoping they take the Giants lightly & think they're gonna be an easy W for them. I'm sure back in 2007, NE thought the same thing going into SB42.

pittsburgh killed that defense in the playoffs last year. They can be scored on. It’s gonna come down to this o line. Their best pass rusher is out so that’s going to help.

OUR season was over before October.
Jax is a good young team with a great young defense and the HC WE should have hired in 2016. Jax's only question is their QB. They have been good enough to overcome his inconsistency though.
Jax is a formidable team. Don't kid yourself.

the Jags will see if they can get pressure without blitzing. My bet is they probably will several times. With that they can key on draw plays with the 7 others. Excited to see if the Giants have the short pass and dump off game working. They will do this until it doesnt work.
The Giant of course will anticipate that so we shall see how they counter that

Why would we wanna keep the Jags D "off the field? In order to win the ever important TOP, we have to keep their D on the field as much as possible while resting ours. After 6 horrific seasons, they had a good yr last yr & all of a sudden everyone fears them & their D. Giants OC needs to look at tape of the Steelers playoff game & see what they did to put up 42pts on that "great" D. We now have the weapons in both the WR slot & RB slot to repeat what Pitt did. Big Ben throttled that D thru the air for 469yds & 5 TDs. Bell had 67yds on 16 carries on the ground & 1 TD & 88yds on 9 rec & 1 TD, I'll take that type of production from SB every week. AB had 7 rec for 132yds & 2 TDs. OBJ can easily equal those numbers. IMO, Jags might be playing off the LOS to not get burned over the top & concede the run to the Giants & SB will make em pay for that.

well, I don't recall those team changing all their OL and complete defensive alignment coming off a 3 win year. We're not sure what we have.

But the Giants will play that D at full strength. Not in the middle of the year when maybe the injury bug hits. Also there's a reason they have turned the team around in past 2 years is all the top draft picks they have been stockpiling over past 6 or so years. Jags are a respectable playoff contender I'm surprised the line isn't higher then 3. Probably only because it a home game. The Giants were a bad team last year and not as good as the 11 wins the year before. They couldn't score either year

WOW ! Everybody made good points. But the bottom line we know as of now the Jags are considered the better team going in. The jag D is really good, it does help their #1 pass rusher is suspended for the first game.
Our offense has such potential I do hope we catch them by surprise with a few things. Our defense focuses on Fournette I would think. Didn't watch the video but I would assume that's one of the keys. Our O line must come together quick by the regular season and that's going to be hard.

On D, just like with Dallas, focus on negating their run game & force their QB to beat you thru the air. If the Giants allow Fournette to run for 100+, we're in trouble. J-Ville is gonna do their best to keep our new "potent" O on the sidelines as much as possible.

That video was fascinating for me. Taught me a lot. It did not mention the O-line, though. Keeping out of 3rd and long is a good idea against any team. Not just the Jags.
Any team that can run the ball well has a great headstart. Will that be us?
