I rewatched the game and I didn’t see enough of Lauretta, but his release was more natural and he was decisive.
Webb did well in spurts so I have not written him off because he did some things.
Neither looked as good as Ryan Nassib in pre season. Lmao
Pre season HOF with Corey Washington

Yes, neither one got enough time to draw any conclusion about who actually "looks better." Add to that the competition they were facing...…….they could in fact be worse than they looked. We can make some observations on limited reps. Webb was air mailing everything Webb has a very strong arm which he didn't seem to know how or when to tone it down Webb made some shaky reads Lauletta seemed to make better reads Lauletta confirmed that he does not have NFL arm strength as several of his passes just hung out there forever. Neither guy seems anywhere near ready to be our #2. An NFL #2 needs to be able to win a game or two in a pinch. I don't see either of them that way. That is the one thing I can conclude off of one pre-season game.

I can understand first game gitters. He did not play in a game all last season. Both Lauletta and Mayfield at least played in the NCAAs last season. Next game, no excuses.

It is hard to overlook the weak arm....
He was also playing against guys who for the most part will not be on rosters come September.
I am not bottom lining him out of the equation, just trying to add context. He certainly doesn’t have a strong arm. He can, however, make all the throws with anticipation which is far more important than having a big arm. Particularly in this offence. Webb doesn’t fit this offence at all, but then again, neither does Eli imo. Underneath accuracy is paramount, along with excellent ball placement

So far the equation is Lauletta(better accuracy/reads/poise) + Webb(strong arm/height)= Better Back-up QB situation

Like when Eli hit his guy in the chest and he dropped it then got popped by Ward? Should’ve thrown it at the ankles there? Ball placement is important in any offense.

He saw what he was suppose to see, but he overthrew on a lot of plays. Reads wasn't his problem. Accuracy was. I really believe he has was nervous. He'll have 3 more games to prove himself. Let's all hope that he does, because Lauletta's arm strength or lack thereof is concerning. I wouldn't be surprised if Alex Tanney or another veteran QB is named the backup if Webb doesn't impress.

There was this one small patch of ground that would never seem to get wet. Even in the rain!! Would send up a dust cloud even in the rain and it looked an odd shade of green. Def a toxic patch!!

I remember it with Nassib. I wonder whether they are family just supporting a relative or whether they are loyal alumni who watched the kid in college and are rooting for him to succeed.
I respectfully suggest that no one has seen enough of Lauletta to draw any conclusions about his potential at this level.

Why you gotta go and harsh on hope, Jomo? Everyone just wants Brady of the Meadowlands. I'll be happy if one of these guys becomes a quality backup but have hope that 'we're covered at QB for the next 10-15 years. While hoping, still looking for alternatives though.

im more curious to see how they perform in the next game. Lets see if their performance today was an isolated incident or a pattern. Same with everyone else on the team. As it stands now...Lauletta 1 vs Webb 0 +1

I am always hopeful but sometimes, like with backup QB realism takes over. So I can hope that one of these guys is our next QB but realize that neither one looks the part right now.

Although I think Webb will settle down and grab the back up spot--and be the heir/successor, it is still WAY too early for rush to judgements. Webb has the uncoachables--size, mobility, and strong arm. As was written he made the right reads--just was amped up way too much. Lauletta seems like a heady player that is a bit short on tools but could easily enjoy a long career as a quality back up. As has been written, Eli looked like a deer in headlights well into his first games played. Last season the Bills Nate Peterman(5th rd pick) was considered dead and buried after a 5 int performance. This year he is smack in the middle of battling for the starting QB job. Lets give Webb, who had to learn a 2nd Pro offense in as many years a little slack before giving up on him.

Experience is huge, if Webb doesn't make the best of this advantage, it's on him.
