Yankees cheating conspiracy theory is a total shamYou’d think that, given their workplace of Texas, the Astros players would know the difference between a smoking gun and a hand-sized water pistol. Alas, those from the defending American League champions who took to social media on Saturday — in the wake of a titillating story that tied the Yankees to illegal sign-stealing — will learn soon enough that they jumped the gun. Actually, if they have been reading The Post regularly, as they should, then the upcoming big reveal will turn out to be smaller than a hidden buzzer. Multiple industry sources told The Post the letter Rob Manfred wrote to the Yankees in September 2017 — the results of an investigation launched from the Red Sox “AppleWatchGate” scandal — documents a pair of sign-stealing-related transgressions that, given the era in which they occurred, constituted the equivalent of driving 60 mph in a 55 zone: 1. The Yankees improperly used a dugout phone in a season before 2017. 2. In 2015 and 2016, some Yankees players stationed themselves in their replay room in an attempt to steal opponents’ signs, then relayed that information to runners on second base so they could try to tell the hitter what was coming. The commissioner included the former in his September 2017 announcement that penalized the Red Sox (with a $200,000 fine) for illicitly using an AppleWatch to convey swiped information. This was the same announcement that drew a line in the sand for future transgressions that the Astros crossed with their trash-can-banging system — resulting in the dismissals of their president of baseball operations Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch, as well as Red Sox and Mets managers Alex Cora and Carlos Beltran.

As was the Red Sox "scandal" with this stupid slap on the wrist so the league could save face. The Yankees stopped whatever they were doing after the warning in 2017. The Asstros & Red Sux continued to cheat when warned of serious consequences if teams didn't stop cheating.

No argument about the Mets, but if this is factual I can’t wait to hear the Skanks dance around it. Also any rationale that they are better than the Astros because they got caught first and complied is utter horseshit.

I just think the amount of crying we have all heard from Yanks fans would be pure gold if it’s true. Pound for pound out of all NY team fans, yanks have the highest D bag portion of any. Then again that’s probably also for the same reason as Cowboys fans, their national fan base is largely composed of front running twits.

When you meet other fans there is a genuine attribute to it that I know doesn’t exist with other fan bases. Where’s the Yanks version of the 7 line Army? My dad was a Yankees fans, I don’t hate them. You seem to not want to acknowledge the amount of bludgeoning f the Astros that was done by Yanks, former Yanks and especially their fans. I guess we will find out for sure when it becomes public if those were stones from the glass house.

The Yankees were warned in 2017, with the Red Sox for sign stealing (although even that was suspect). We know that. If they continued after then shame on them. But put your guilty party hat away until there is evidence. By the way, I avtually root for the Mets too just not when they play the Yanks. I loved the 80s Mets. Straw, Doc, McElster, McReynolds, HoJo....

Teh Mick was always one of my favorites growing up that was well before my time. Him, DiMaggio and Ted Williams were quite the players back in the day. Mick always had me facinated though. This letter is sad. I read his book "The Last Boy" (great read if you love baseball) and I saw all his issues come out. How great a player would he have been not for the drinking and the injury... Could have been more impactful than the Babe. "I want to dedicate this book to all my friends. Old, new & especially young friends. Please don’t do alcohol & drugs. I never did drugs but alcohol hurt my career terribly," Mantle wrote. Lelands says it's unclear exactly who or what the letter was for ... but they've authenticated the piece, and it's legit. Mickey also seems to answer an age-old debate -- who was a better ballplayer -- Willie Mays, Duke Snider or MM. "People used to ask who was better? Willie, Mickey or Duke. I think you have to look at final statistics and Willie was far ahead at the end." Mickey continued ... "Guys who took good care of themselves like Willie, Hank Aaron, Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Joe [DiMaggio], etc., were the ones at the top of the final stats." Mantle -- one of the best 15 baseball players ever -- says he could've actually been even more lethal at the plate and in the field if he'd laid off the booze. "I had taken better care of myself I could have done a lot better. I didn’t even take care or do my rehab on my legs like I was supposed to. I drank too much when I was playing from 1952, after my dad died till 1969. After I retired in '69, I drank more and more (I’ll always be ashamed of)." FYI -- Mantle badly tore up his knee when his cleat got stuck on a drain in the outfield while pursuing a fly ball hit by Mays in October, 1951. "So to everyone out there especially young people, little leaguers etc. 'Don’t end up over the hill before you even start to climb it.' Makes us all proud of you. Don’t do drugs & alcohol.” www.tmz.com/2020/06/17/mickey-mantle-handwritten-letter-note-no-drugs-alcohol-mlb-new-york-yankees/

And for MH, the big Roidtiz is back in the headlines... MLB rumors: Ex-Red Sox slugger David Ortiz issued restraining order in Dominican Republic, report says A restraining order has been issued against David Ortiz at a court in his native country by his ex-partner, Fary Almanzar Fernandez, who is the mother of the Red Sox legend’s son. Fernandez alleges that she’s been “intimidated and threatened” by Ortiz. Court documents claim that the restraining order was filed back on May 21. ... The Dominican Public Ministry reportedly instructed Ortiz to abstain from “annoying, intimidating or threatening” Fernandez, whether it be in person or via telephone. Per the spokesperson for the national Attorney General’s Office, the 10-time All-Star was issued a provisional protection order, which gives law enforcement the authority to remove Ortiz from Fernandez’s house if he violates the terms of the court-issued order. Never would imagine he had a temper www.nj.com/yankees/2020/06/mlb-rumors-ex-red-sox-slugger-david-ortiz-issued-restraining-order-in-dominican-republic-report-says.html

MLB 2020 season: MLBPA votes against 60-game proposal; Rob Manfred likely to implement schedule On Monday evening, the MLB Players Association voted to reject Major League Baseball's proposal for a 2020 season, according to CBS Sports HQ's Jim Bowden. The proposal called for, among other things, a 60-game season, an expanded postseason, and no additional salary guarantees should the season be canceled due to the novel coronavirus. The vote -- which featured one MLBPA representative per team and eight members of the union's executive committee -- was 33-5 against the proposal, Bowden confirmed. www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-2020-season-mlbpa-votes-against-60-game-proposal-rob-manfred-likely-to-implement-schedule/live/
