The Angels just traded away Zach Cozart and freed a few million dollars in cap space. They're pretty much now assuming that Cole is going there on local radio.....

Mark Feinsand @feinsand 6m I'm hearing the Astros and Giants are the likely mystery teams for Cole, though multiple sources have major doubt either will be a serious player for the ace. Yankees, Angels and Dodgers still appear to be the most likely destinations for Cole.

Cole joining Yanks on 9-year deal (source) SAN DIEGO -- More than a decade before throwing his first big league pitch, Gerrit Cole arched his 11-year-old frame over the right-field wall prior to Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, attempting to secure the attention of stars like Derek Jeter and Paul O'Neill by hoisting a hand-written placard that read: "Yankee Fan Today, Tomorrow, Forever." Having garnered his favorite club's focus on numerous occasions since that day, Cole will finally be rewarded with a chance to finish his career wearing the fabled pinstripes. Widely considered the most-prized free-agent starter available this offseason, Cole and the Yankees agreed to a record-setting nine-year, $324 million contract, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand Tuesday night. The club has not confirmed. www.mlb.com/breaking-news/yankees-gerrit-cole-offer

Yankees signing Gerrit Cole to record $324 million deal Gerrit Cole is a Yankee. The Yankees won the bidding war for the 29-year-old ace with a nine-year, $324 million contract at the winter meetings late Tuesday night, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported. Cole immediately jumps to the top of a Yankees rotation that also includes James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka and Luis Severino. Stephen Strasburg’s seven-year deal worth $245 million to stay with the Nationals, signed on Monday, was the previous record for a pitcher contract. Cole cemented himself as one of the best pitchers in baseball in his two seasons with the Astros, going 35-10 with a 2.68 ERA. He spent the first five seasons of his career with the Pirates before the Astros outbid the Yankees to acquire him in a trade. The Yankees first missed out on Cole in 2008 after they drafted him in the first round, as he instead opted to go to UCLA. nypost.com/2019/12/11/yankees-to-sign-gerrit-cole-to-record-324-million-deal/?fbclid=IwAR36aq_91NPene9C5HGZrZB8kBGahQm74KiwzTKd3BhlNuiq9mrrk_DQDw4

Yes!
More than I thought but we now have an ace for the next 5 years at minimum!
Now Yanks are back to a WS do or die team.

Nobody? They got a few guys... Trout and Ohtani. They probably will go big on Rendon and MadBum now.

We need to move on from our 2019 shortcomings... Hopefully the Nats clean up the Astros quickly. I would absolutely 100% be thrilled if this had any chance of happening: No idea if this guy has any credibility... Also, the number 1 target 100% should be: 1. Gerrit Cole, SP Age: 29 | 2019 Stats: 20-5. 2.50 ERA, 0.895 WHIP, 13.8 K/9, 6.8 WAR Current Team: Astros | Best Fit: Yankees Cole is a lock to break David Price’s record $217 million contract for a pitcher. His sensational two seasons with the Astros certainly added well more than $100 million to his haul—and will probably price Houston out of the competition for him. How much will he command? Well, every big-spending club in the game will likely bid for him, including the Angels, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Phillies and White Sox. He’s believed to want to return to his native California, but it’s possible the Yankees will make an offer that is too absurd for him to pass up—as they did to another native Californian a dozen years ago, CC Sabathia. Go Yankees Let the off season madness begin. Non Yankee News, Ex Yankee manager Joe Girardi signs with the Phillies as their next manager. Good luck Joe. We did it! Now about trading Stanton.... lol

I'll be honest
This is my favorite FA signing / trade (money aside) since getting CC and Tex in 2009.
I feel like this is the one move to finally get them over the top.
Next steps
Trade Stanton to the Dodgers who are desperate and need a right handed bat. I dont even care about the return but if they get a Joc Pederson that's great. Lefty power bat.
Trade for Lindor. Go all in. Trade Frazier/Andujar/prospects. Go get him to play SS. Urshela-Lindor-Torres-DJL is a great fielding and hitting infield. Stacked.
They do need a BUC now who will play 40-50-60 games.
I'm happy as hell.

Hell, if LA is willing to take on all of Stanton's contract, I'd trade him for a middle level prospect (quite frankly, a bag of balls would do). He's essentially an albatross on our team.
