I'm just hoping we start giving these new coaches, any new coaches... more than two years on their 5 year deals...Pat's was on a third that was about to have another high draft pick, with Thomas possibly the LT we need, and after a few obvious cuts, near 100 million in a FA shopping spree...I simply can not see the positives of firing coaches after two years, win or lose, as losing was expected with anybody knowing talent... I still believe Pat Shurmur could of corrected many of those in game decisions...that's not fact based, but on the same opinion as saying a Daniel Jones will develop a clock when we get more talent on the offensive line. I'm not sold on any coach...although, after Michigan plays Alabama..... Well...I don't watch any college football, so I won't see that game either. I have hesitancy with any college coach - he can grow into the job but should be limited initially, but he will make mistakes as well. Keep him as a HC only initially, and move from there. McCarthy should be past that part of his career, and I hope that concept is something Mara is looking for
I am not a McCarthy fan . I think he runs a square peg in a round hole system. So I am against him. I also live in the real universe. Anyone who thinks given the track record of the Giants over that past 5 years. This guy is not the safest choice out all of them and gives the beat chance to hit the ground running on day 1. Is fooling themselves.

I have no idea how either would work out, but Rhule and McCarthy* seem to be the hottest names out there...both seem to have no issue interviewing with us, as does virtually every other name out there. We seem to look pretty sweet to every candidate out there; the problem is the guy making that selection. *Have a concern about McCarthy now...Browns have lined up a former Packer for the GM roll, so they may make a better offer to him. I'm not sold on any coach...although, after Michigan plays Alabama..... On edit...Rhule needs more control with his staff hiring, and college guys are always huge crap shoots...and another one, established, is headed to the Redskins, when you would "think" the Giants would be perfect for him. Two things on Rivera. 1) once the Skins offered him a job, it was over for us...there is no way for him to delay saying yes 2) Rhule's name keeps popping up...Rivera would be wise to not turn down a solid offer for an interview with a team continually linked to someone else.

Why do teams in the NFL want his service then? If he’s not good enough for the ACC, Big 10, SEC, why are several NFL teams knocking at his door? I’ve shown just as much evidence as you, even if you just choose not to acknowledge it. 2 wins to 10 wins at Temple. 1 win to 11 wins and a Top 10 team in the country at Baylor. Drastic turnarounds both under his direction. Meanwhile you‘re just regurgitating the same “53%” and “hasn’t won anything of substance” without any context as if he’s had Alabama and Clemson level talent to work with when he hasn’t had close to it Because teams every year are drawn to the shiny object in the draft. Without looking at the whole picture . Why wouldn't they do the same with a has done nothing shiny object HC. The difference between me and most. I look at the other side of the coin as well. All he has is won a few games in 2nd rate conferences after that it is all fluff. Ah ok, so your argument is you know more about what makes a good NFL coach than actual NFL teams. Gotcha. Weird hill to die on

I love these types of without thought come backs. Let me ask you this. What NFL teams besides the Brown's ( we all know what the CF that franchises is) have inquired him about his services? I have read a lot of shiny object speculation but see no interviews.

I have read a lot of shiny object speculation but see no interviews. I never claimed I did. I agree with the several teams thinking he’s worthy of their interest. You don’t, claiming that the teams that are interested in him are foolish and falling for “the shiny object.” Like I said, I guess you think you know more than them. All I did was take issue with your statement that his resume was “unimpressive” which I disagree with. Never declared he would be good or bad like you did. And according to Ian Rapoport, 3 other teams in addition to Cleveland: @rapsheet Matt Rhule is a hot candidate and has interest from the #Giants, #Panthers and almost certainly #Cowboys. NYG is absolutely attractive to him

He looks like a guy in the parts dept of a dealership.

I don't think it has any bearing what-so-ever. You see I go off looks for the first impression. For example I thought Mcadoo looked like he belonged as part of a nascar pit crew team. Im sure this guy is a good coach if the Giants are interested in him.

He looks like a guy in the parts dept of a dealership. I was mainly joking even though I see a little Rubble in him. Rhule's suits already fit a bit better than McAdoo's. I'm more concerned about the culture fit and lack of NFL experience. I still don't know what makes Rhule special other than he's had success in college. He has no experience but wants to pick and choose the perfect situation to get his career started in the NFL. He seems more concerned about finding a spot where he can propel his career rather than simply being happy for an opportunity. Seems a very risky hire to me given lack of experience...exactly what we don't need in my opinion. Rhule screams Texas to me. He has a Southern Baptist upbringing and is the son of a preacher...and seems to have that demeanor. I can see Rhule in Dallas or Carolina...it's no surprise he ended up as a coach of a Baptist school.

I don't know much about Rhule but I like how he turned around that program. No one wanted to be associated with the Briles football team and the scandal. They lost recruits also . He some how cobbled together a top 10 football team out of it and got the recruiting back on track. I think with a team as young as ours he might relate better than a McCarthy or Rivera. I see him more closer to a Pete Caroll type of coach than any one else. It also looks like he can spot talent as evidence Baylor does not have one 5 star recruit on the team. He also produced 11 nfl draftees in the past 3 years including a 1st rounder (hassan reddick temple) .

Super Bowl game...

He turned around two College teams in a short period of time. And fixed a Baylor program that was coming off a sexual assault scandal. What does this mean in regards to the NFL? Nothing, he’s a coach fans and league executives seem to like. He could be a flop, who knows. But as each day passes potential candidates will find new homes. Right now I would interview every assistant that is coaching on a winning team, and look at potential candidates in College. Time for ideas and new thinking with the Giants. Clearly, the last two hires were a disaster. Make sure this one isn’t.

Clearly, the last two hires were a disaster. Make sure this one isn’t. It a similar situation to Bill Obrien and what he did at Penn State after the Sandusky fiasco. It means he can weather adversity and make a filet out of ground beef recruits. It means he can see talent and motivate even if there are other recruits rated higher. It means he can see the team through the players. I don't know if he will be a good coach but he can motivate people to play to their max. He seems to consistently assemble a coaching staff that can get the most out its players at each competitive level.

He might be great but he has no track record as a HC in the NFL. You can spin this but its a risk bottom line. Every coach is a risk. Lol. I mean even coaches with a great NFL track record have failed with new teams/players. Not sure what you're even trying to argue here. There have been great college coaches that have failed miserably in the NFL and there have been college coaches that have been great. You do you research and your interviews and you hope for the best, but there's not one single coach out there, including Belichick, that would have 0 risk whatsoever as a new hire.

What about QB development? Rhule seems to resemble Coughlin a lot. Former Giants assistant, a New Yorker, and is more of a CEO coach than any one particular thing like Coughlin. I wonder who his OC would be? Resemble TC? Not a qualifier as a HCOne season as a low level O-line coach Not a qualifier.A former New Yorker Not a qualifier
CEO coach What the hell does that mean?
I want a Head Coach. Not a New Yorker that resembles Tom Coughlin and is CEO Head coach. Because if that is all he has to suggest he would be quality NFL HC and he is hired. Expect more of the same. I not a fan of Mike McCarthy but his resume blows this guys out of the water. McCarthy?! You want Mcadoodoo's mentor?! Just look at how better the Packers are now without him!

Well first off, 6-6 isn’t a losing record and he also didn’t have a losing record his 2nd year at Baylor. He took over both programs as 2 and 1 win teams respectively and both of these teams are now suddenly perennial contenders, his team this year was one win away from making the CFP. This is Baylor football. Not Bama, Georgia, or LSU. Baylor. Looking at numbers like the “53%” in a vacuum is shortsighted. The context is huge. The “what has he won?” question is a weird question. If you’re saying because he hasn’t taken the likes of Temple and Baylor football to a National Championship he’s a bad coach, that’s not really a sound argument 6-6 is mediocracy . He has neve won a major bowl. 53% is a hard fact. How is that short sited ? His record in 2 second rate conferences is average. I read a bunch of Bull S$$$ that tries to dismiss hard facts. Here they are again He is 47-42 53% That is in the NFL between 8-8 and 9-7 He has won the Texas bowl beat Vanderbilt. Who cares? Never an NFL OC Never an NFL DC Never been a part of An NFL daft team Has never won anything in the NCAA of substance Big 12- Baylor not a good conference FBS -Temple not a good conference Why if he is so good, is not in the ACC , Big 10 , Pac 12 SEC. Why did the teams in these conferences not want his services after Temple? I has shown a lot of evidence that question his credentials. Not one of you has ever gave a compelling argument on why he will be a good NFL HC. Other than he is a shiny object. I don't think Couglin was a coordinator on any level in the NFL either and was hired from College and did pretty well with the expansion team. If Mcarthy has such a great resume why hasn't he gotten job last or this year yet?

He also was the FC of BC and had a 60% win total How does that compare to one NFl season as a low level o-line coach with a 53% NCAA record?
