Patty Traina’s podcast has been doing a series where she talks to local reporters in the town of each HC candidate, to get their “insider” perspective on each candidate. Really interesting stuff. I’ve listened to interviews about McCarthy, Richard, Bienemy and Wink. My thoughts after listening to these:
McCarthy: I’m higher on him than I was before listening. He’s my second choice after Rhule.
Bienemy: intriguing candidate. Good offensive mind. Demanding leader. Doesn’t call plays and no HC experience.
Wink: Intriguing candidate, but I’m concerned that he is 56 and has been an NFL DC for 3 seasons. The first season (Denver 2010) was a disaster - 32nd ranked defense. Seems like a real long shot.
Richard: Don’t see it. Good work with Legion of Doom, but was fired from there and has had mixed results in Dallas.

The Giants need to stop playing footsie with coaches and free agents. their complacency makes me want to barf!
-They lost McCarthy (who truly would have been the safest bet of all the coaches out there looking to be signed) to the f---ing COWBOYS!!!
-Matt Rhule, to be a top candidate in my eyes. needs to have success in the NFL and not as some low-level assistant. What he has done in college is unlikely to translate into the NFL world of egos.
If Josh McD wants a head-coaching position he should get his ass down to ER, NJ instead of making the team wait. I truly don't believe he is interested so the Giants shouldn't wait for a hire that would make them wait for nothing (and he has proven he is that guy already) and sign some schlub.
They need to be aggressive and PAY for good coach...waiting for some wizard to pop out of a bottle is gettiing to be pretty pathetic and disgusting to watch. Better to be aggressive and get it wrong than be passive and never succeed. It is a disgusting product to see on television and in person!

I'm not upset that their interviewing a large number of candidates. At this time I would think that Bienemy, Ruhle, and Martindale out of the candidates interviewed are the inner circle. But now Garret might be in the picture. I don't know this ST coordinator from NE but cause he comes from the Belichek tree he is probably a realistic choice.
I originally was very intrigued with Bienemy. I am thinking either Binemmy or Garret, even though there is nothing pointing to Garret as of yet. Though Garret apparently leaked that he is interested in the Giant job and has a staff already in place.

But now Garret might be in the picture. I don't know this ST coordinator from NE but cause he comes from the Belichek tree he is probably a realistic choice. I originally was very intrigued with Bienemy. I am thinking either Binemmy or Garret, even though there is nothing pointing to Garret as of yet. Though Garret apparently leaked that he is interested in the Giant job and has a staff already in place. Garret needs a year or two off coming from the Jerry's Never Never Land. I would be shocked if he could be effective...especially on a team even less likely to bring in good FA signings that make sense on long term deals. |

I think he can be a good HC in a better situation, but it would be a horrible pick for the Giants right now. It would look like another "comfort" (DG) pick. I would be amazed if it happens. |
