You’re absolutely right. For a better word my gut or a hunch with Judges background and what he said in the press conference he can be a good coach. But who the hell knows, they could both be bums and we start reminiscing the days of Shurmur in a year or two. But, I don’t like this hire. I value the hell out of our defense. It’s our backbone of our franchise. And we hired this guy? Who knows, he could be another great DC, or just another guy who will be looking for work at some point. the insight here is amazing.... Huh? Should I have just said cool? You know take the lazy way out on a thread? Who does that?

Talent level was absurdly lacking on OL...and all of the defense. Betcher did not forget to coach...nor did Matt Ruhle vs Georgia while having Pickens problems, and the other whiz kid Lincoln Riley... it's called being overwhelmed talent wise. But we all got the next Super Bowl hopes, and that's all that matters.....for now. they still did a poor job coaching...... they are not scapegoats at all Yes they were...and he had what he had to work with And here we are...I dynamically disagree with you. IMHO, you are 100000% wrong. Now, I have a few ways to go...never convince you, and spend more posts wasting every bodies time rehashing the same old retreaded topic over and over and well, over...or go to bed. See you next week

I don't think Belichick ever worked with Parcells or the Giants in the past. WTF??????? You should be given a time out for that one. Really....that's blasphemy...lol

Good question. I see the Dolphins promoted Josh Boyer to DC. I get that the Dolphins traded away all their players especially on the defensive side of the ball. But Graham was part of one of the worst defenses in the league last year. He made Bettcher look like Buddy Ryan. I’m sold on Judge, but no way in hell am I sold with this hire. If you're sold on Judge (I dont know how yet), then you should be sold on this guy given Judges intro presser about getting the right guys to fill these roles. Personally, this guy is just as much a risk as Judge. Not much experience. And the Dolphins D last year was not that good. Agreed. The fact this guy isn't a household name that fits what most are saying is needed (experience - especially at HC if possible) means he must be fitting some other criteria Judge has. I say this mostly because Judge comes across as having a detailed plan in mind already which the Dolphins DC must fit - otherwise he could have waited a bit still. Those other criteria could be what we've already heard - a teaching approach that is scheme neutral. If we accept a hopeful stance with Judge, no reason to abandon it yet.

Well it seems the giants aren’t going for the flashy hires. (Ex Wade Phillips) Gotta see how it plays out.

Green Bay Packers (2018) Linebackers coach & run game coordinator -- Interesting title in Green Bay . It looks like he coached on defense and schemed on offense. I think the "run game coordinator" was for the defensive side of the ball. Similar to how Kris Richards was the D-backs coach and passing game coordinator for the Cowboys. From what I read it is just a defensive coach that focus' more on that aspect of the defense. Schemes ways to stop the run (or pass) specifically to help the DC.
I have high hopes that Graham can do some fine work with our young very talented DL. Also makes me think Simmons is a perfect fit for this DC and HC.

You know what is crazy to me, how we few 38-49 year old coaches as lacking experience. He has been coaching for the last 18 years. I'm 38 and in the military and pretty senior and in charge of a ton of shit that can get people killed. My CO in charge of the entire base isn't much older lol. Just funny to me, not saying you are wrong.
This is certainly a risky hire but I am glad Judge is going with guys he knows because he likely has very specific things he wants each guy to do. I'll hold off Judgement until the first quarter of the first preseason game and then I will overreact whether we do good or bad like everyone else

I guess Stephen A will be kind of happy He has kept two black assistants and hired a black DC, he likely has racist motives and is just hiring them so they can't get a HC job someplace else.

He went to Yale, so he’s clearly extremely bright. He apparently wanted to be a CIA agent lol. I’m interested to see what he can do. He didn’t have much talent on that Miami defense so it’s hard to judge what he is capable of. I do like that we have some young coaches who seem like they are flexible and able to adapt.

And listen to Graham’s description of his own coaching style from Oct. 2017. “I’m always miserable. Nothing is good enough for me. The (players) know that,” Graham said then. I’ve been like that since day one. They’re like, ‘What’s wrong with this guy?’ But that’s me. I don’t know what to tell them. I don’t do that with my wife, though. That would be stupid.” Players say Graham isn’t some unfeeling drill sergeant, though. They respect him. “He’s full of energy, full of passion, loves his players and this game,” one player who’s played for Graham told the Daily News on Sunday. “And you can see it in all his actions.” That description seems to fit what Judge has promised from himself: discipline, accountability, high standards and grueling practices for his players, but only after prioritizing them as people first. “I’m about caring for the players in the locker room. Let’s not forget there’s a human element to this game,” Judge said in his introductory press conference Thursday. www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/ny-patrick-graham-defensive-coordinator-dc-pat-shurmur-joe-judge-20200113-kxeev4kc2bdl5ptvuef4teufvq-story.html

Thanks! I wasn't even looking at that way. My mind automatically went to he helps out the OC.

I know it's not saying much due to stats, but outside of the Giants game, when I watched the Dolphins I liked some of their defensive plays and the way the Dolphins defense lined up in certain situations. Either way we'll have to see.

I wonder if w start poaching Miami defensive players now like we did Arizona players with Bettcher. Pretty slim pickings over there currently. As far as this hire? I take same approach as our HC. We can’t really do much worse than what we had, can we?

Instead of hiring the best available coach, we hire the one with connections to the team and coach, and who ran the worst defense. whos the best available
The best is whomever we fans say is the best!

Yeah..Shurmur and Betcher are scapegoats... Leonard is obviously a Mara and Gettleman hater. Talent level was absurdly lacking on OL...and all of the defense. Shurmur, Betcher and Hunter are terrible coaches

Hunter was one of the worst signings this team has ever made. He was awful everywhere.

Why did Miami let him go? Couldn’t they have blocked this lateral move?

I like the hire . He has been a part of some good defenses. Wait did i read thos right? They hired the guy that was DC for the mighty Dolphins who gave up just under 500 points about 50 more then Beltcher did on the giants. I know Judge worked with him in NE but im overly excited here

Well, I like that he's never really satisfied, that kinda reminds me of the Lombardi-ism--- "if we strive for perfection we will catch excellence".
Ok, so lets look at Miami's very last game. In Foxboro, with THE Pats(with future Giants HC Judge on the sideline) needing to dispatch the pesky Dolphins in order to get a bye. In other words a huge game for them. Miami played well enough on defense on the road to stop a defending champion and a Playoff team. Forget the stats, the players and the coaches did not get the memo that they were losing out. Perhaps there's a bit more with this DC than what meets the eye. At the very least a very good motivator.

It's new blood in the old veins of our storied franchise.

Was the Giants Dline good in 2016? I don;t remember off hand. probably better than recent years . We went 11-5 on the backs of our defense. On the back of an easy schedule the defense was very good against the run but they played some of the worst teams in the NFL and Dallas had a greta year butDak and Zeke were rookies. The hard truth hit the next year when they had to play a second place schedule and were in the bottom 3 in every category.
