You don’t like this hire? When was the first time you ever heard of him? Yesterday? Yeah I don’t like the hire, pretty sure I stated that and why. Why does it matter when I heard of him? I wanted an experienced coordinator. Not another inexperienced coach. Why do you like the hire? Not saying I do. Just admitting that I don't know enough about the guy to like the hire or not like the hire ....

Scheme versatile Hopefully no more square pegs in round holes minkah fitzpatrick wanted out cause they weren’t using him to his strengths. This hire scares me a little but what do i know.

Not saying I do. Just admitting that I don't know enough about the guy to like the hire or not like the hire .... That’s fair. Look, as we can see with the hiring of Graham, Roach and Schuplinski we’re going to have young players coached by young coaches. Me personally I wanted veteran coaches, to help Judge being that he has zero experience as a head coach. But as we can see he wants young hungry coaches who he thinks will add the fire that he wants to implement to the team. I’m cautiously optimistic.

Not sure that you want multiple former HC's on your staff if you're a young HC ... maybe just one trusted mentor voice ....

I don't think Belichick ever worked with Parcells or the Giants in the past. Obviously you are a young fan. You will need to get brushed up on this stuff or these guys will eat you alive. BB was considered a nobody when Parcells(much like BB did for NYG) got a suggestion to give BB a chance on his staff. BB quickly proved himself culminating with his defensive game plan vs the high flying "K gun" Bills in the SB(after the 1990 season). I strongly suggest you find the "Bill and Bill" show that was run on the NFL network. It will clear up a few things. It is pretty well known that BB remains forever grateful to NYG and Parcells for giving a relative unknown an opportunity to work 24 hrs a day and prove himself. Most of us see the recommendation of Judge as possibly the next little known gem with a possibly high ceiling. props to you for educating him and not just shitting on him

This is definitely a risky hire by Joe Judge. Personally I would've liked Wade Phillips who is basically the godfather of the modern day 3-4. I will say this though as I've been doing research on him, he doesn't care much about schemes as long as at the end of the day they win. With that being said though, statistically speaking he was actually a much worse coordinator than James Bettcher.
Dolphins defensive ranking under Patrick Graham
Points: 32nd
Yards: 30th
Yards per play: 29th
Turnovers: 29th
Passing: 26th
Running: 27th
Penalty yards: 31st
Blitz rate: 12th
Sacks: 32nd

No...no it doesn't. Don't be such a drama queen. It just looks silly. You must of mistaken my post for someone else’s. Because only an idiot would take that comment as being a “drama queen.” ..."disaster" that's a pretty dramatic word in my book.

Graham has been in the game for awhile and fulfills the diversity requirement for a minority coach. How complicated can coaching defense in the NFL be anyway?
Apparently too complicated for Bettcher.

Intereting write up in the NYPost. With Eli and DeOssie not returning to the Giants, Graham will have 0 players from 2016 on the current roster. That was when Graham was here as the DL coach. Only 1 player, Tomlinson, was around during his tenure. Bettcher had the Cards a top 10 defense 3 straight years before crumbling here. What happened? In Grahams only year as DC in Miami, the Dolphins ranked 30th in total defense, 26th in passing and 27th in rushing. Judge apparently had eyes on Aaron Glenn the Saints DB coach for DC as well. He was a former Jet and still could find his way on the Giants 2020 staff. His Defenses in AZ were top 10 in points per game...once in 2015. In 2016 they were 14th and in 2017 they were 19th.

Bill Belichick's pro coaching career up till he became HC of Browns in 1991: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Belichick"Early pro coaching positions After graduating, Belichick took a $25-per-week job as an assistant to Baltimore Colts head coach Ted Marchibroda in 1975.[21] In 1976, he joined the Detroit Lions as their assistant special teams coach before adding tight ends and wide receivers to his coaching duties in 1977.[22] He spent the 1978 season with the Denver Broncos as their assistant special teams coach and defensive assistant.[23]
New York Giants (1979–1990) In 1979, Belichick began a 12-year stint with the New York Giants alongside head coach Ray Perkins as a defensive assistant and special teams coach.[24] He added linebackers coaching to his duties in 1980 and was named defensive coordinator in 1985 under head coach Bill Parcells, who had replaced Perkins in 1983. The Giants won Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV following the 1986 and 1990 seasons.[25][26] His defensive game plan from the New York Giants' 20–19 upset of the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXV has been placed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.[27] Cleveland Browns (1991–1995)"

Note: Although Bill Parcells gets the credit, much of the foundation of NYG's championship teams of the 80s were built under Ray Perkins as HC.

Playing catch up here but when I got the alert Sunday night I was like WTF? A Dolphins guy? Admittedly knew nothing about him but after reading up on his coaching history and hearing him speak I feel better about it.
Though the thing that scares me is everyone posting about how he can't be worse than Bettcher......yes he can.....I certainly hope not but when they hired Bettcher post-Spags I said well he can't be worse than Sheridan (2015)....he proved me wrong. The Giants gave up the second most points in team history last year besting Sheridan's bunch by 9 points.

Think positive.
These coaches can only get better than they've been in the past.
They couldn't possibly get worse...could they?

I don't like the Graham hire for defensive coordinator. I get that he didn't have talent in MIA, but we don't have a lot of defensive talent here either and it wasn't a viable excuse for Bettcher.
Also, that the Dolphins basically gave us their blessing to take away their DC on a lateral move tells me Flores wasn't so impressed with him, after seeing him do the job up close for a year. I know Flores and Judge were on the Pats staff together, but you don't see coaches allow other coaches to just take away their coordinators on lateral moves. That's just a huge red flag for me.
Other than Judge knowing the guy, I really don't see what else really pops that makes him a great DC candidate.

Ed Valentine had a Miami reporter on his podcast who indicated that Flores and Graham are very close and that Graham wanted to go back home to the East coast and Flores didn’t want to stop him. Made me feel a little better about why Miami would let him go. Also, does the Asst HC title mean that he’s getting a promotion and thus the move couldn’t be blocked by Miami?

It is Judge's team now and based on some of the hires so far like the DC means that the names out there for OC Garrett (not sure a fit with Judge?), Gruden (head to Raiders with bro), Cadwell (connection to QB coach), Kitchens (risky?) to me means, he may go with another unexpected selection for OC.
Which I seem to be leaning more towards believing these days.
I do not know if it was a courtesy interview for Shula but i do not see him getting the job either.
I think it is a very "key" selection to see how experience plays into balancing out the whole coaching staff for Judge or could just turn out to be a complete youth movement instead?

Just read that Graham is not just the DC but the assistant HC as well. That's why the Dolphins could not block the move.

The AHC designation being used by the Giants as a means of blocking MIA from preventing the move would make more sense to me than what you said in the first half of your post. I mean, afterall, Miami is on the east coast, just not the northeast. And I'm sure there are lots of more established assistants that would like to "go home". As much as these coaches are all buddies, they also know how competitive the job is and I can't see a guy like Flores, who isn't on exactly solid footing in his position, being willing to just let go of a great assistant coach that helps him keep his job just for sentimental sake.

They both had bad units last year.
