He’s 29 and more than likely this is his last big pay day. So, coming off a 10 sack season he wants to get paid accordingly. He must have offers, and is willing to wait it out till some team decides to panic and give in.

I think both teams and agents are waiting for Clowney to set the market. I hope they re-sign him at a fair price.

This is his chance to really make a difference. He has "only" made $8m so far in his career. So offering him a contract with $20m guaranteed would be massive for him. Maybe they can do 3 years/$30m with $20m guaranteed.

The crazy thing is this year is a very weak pass rusher free agent class so I would have thought Clowney and Golden would have signed very fast. I hope no one breaks the bank on Clowney and we can get Golden for a fair price.

Oh, that red Ferrari he loves, he will have to get the black one now. But all kidding aside, he should do what’s best for him. This is a job at the end of the day, and you want to make sure your family is taking care of.

I remember hearing an interview a few years back with a baseball player that was busted for steroids earlier in his career. He basically said that they have a chance to make so much money it changes the entire course of their family for generations down the line. Why would I not do everything I can to help out my kids, kids, kids, kids. Generational money he called it. $8m might only last a generation, $28m can really make a longer impact.
I agree though, got to do what's right for him.

Pass rushers that get sacks usually get paid, and most of his sacks last year, he beat his man and was the only body around the QB. They were sacks he produced, not just piggybacking on the back of the surrounding cast.

And with the cap supposedly going way up next year with the new CBA it would seem like a great deal next year.

JPP got 2 years 27 million. I think that is the tier he considers himself in. I'm sure teams are offering 8-9 million. I wouldn't go above $10 mill

I agree guys with sacks get paid, but he also has an injury history and so guaranteed dollars might be more important than total dollars. Depending what his other offers are $20m guaranteed might be tough to turn down.

And with the cap supposedly going way up next year with the new CBA it would seem like a great deal next year. I would not bet on the massive explosion in cap space next year. The cap is based on the income of the league. Now people were expecting with the new CBA the players would can an increased % of revenue, which they got. How ever those predictions were made before entire sports leagues were shut down from the corona virus. If the NFL has a bad year we could see a much smaller increase in the cap. We have had about $10m increases over the last bunch of years, if it goes up $20m that is great.
We will see. I do think 30/20 is a good number for him, but it depends what other teams are offering. There are not a lot of pass rushers out there and even less with double digit sacks.

That's clearly all the 84th overall edge player with a 60 overall defensive grade should get...realizing as the stats do... all sacks are not created equal.

I wouldnt pay Golden more than $8m per, and a two year contract MAX. 2/$16m all guaranteed.
Hes not coming close to Clowney $$$, who will probably settle around the $17-18m/per ballpark, I'd think.
A poster earlier said he thought Golden would get $14m/per, that was my laugher of the day

Too bad NFL contracts are not dictated by PFFs made up grading system. If they were teams would be lined up offering Clowney $150m to play for them...but alas he is also not signed.

Patient as in, I get my deal done here where I am familiar with team, players and the comfort of not starting over on another team in a new city
However, another team makes a generous offer, patience is out the window and Golden is gone

This is the video...only body around? Beat his man?...yeah, taking forever to, and the QB holding onto the ball too long or a coverage sacks as they grade them. Compare his 10 sacks to the Kyler Fackrell video, and you will see Golden's being clear paths from broken assignments, longer ball holding from the QB's, and just broken blocking...nothing but three with beating the block quickly...one a TE, one a Guard and one on the LT of the Jets. Fackrell beats his blocks quickly...this is how sacks ARE different, and get graded differently.

Damn him for taking advantage by sacking the QB because of broken plays or schemes that get him free. The guy got 10.5.....plain and simple.

But, it's NOT just plain and simple...there is a HUGE difference of a DE beating a double block cleanly and forcing a QB to scramble into the pocket, and into the arms of a Lawrence...a Lawrence who then gets the "plain and simple" sack stat...while that DE who caused that sack gets nothing in regards to plain, and nothing simple. Well, unless you have a true method of grading and making advanced stats. If you don't believe coaches understand these simple concepts as they go over film, and GM's using them in what a worth of pay is, I can't make it any plainer, or simpler.
