Steve Smith: Giants' O-line the reason Jonathan Stewart struggled Jonathan Stewart didn’t have the best summer with the New York Giants, but his old teammate is sticking up for him publicly anyway. Stewart, who signed a two-year deal with the Giants in the offseason, struggled during the preseason, finishing with minus-5 yards on 10 carries in three games. So when his former teammate with the Carolina Panthers, Steve Smith, was asked about it, he said that it wasn’t Stewart’s fault and instead, laid the blame on the Giants’ offensive line. Did the other RBs get a different OL? Did the O line magically make him old and slow? No. Maybe Smith is accusing the OL of putting 50lb lead weights in his cleats. I get the desire to have a vet RB on the team, but you can't keep a guy on the team that played that bad and maintain credibility. |

I really hope Stewart makes me eat those words by season's end. Love to see a Otis Anderson type of resurrection from him. Though I suspect Otis himself would be more productive this season than Stewart will be.

JS will get 500yds & 6-7 TDs this yr, I'm calling it now. Youse guys are basing all this doom & gloom on the guy based on 1 pre-season game 7 a handful of carries? I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that it was just 1 bad pre season game for him.

Did the other RBs get a different OL? While not world beaters with run blocking it did seem Gallman got positive yards each game he played with the same 5 guys up front. |

He's in decline and he's slow.
He's his last 4 seasons
2014: 4.6 YPC 2015: 4.1 YPC 2016: 3.8 YPC 2017: 3.4 YPC
He should have been cut. He should be out of the league. Gallman is a far better RB at this point. There is so much BS going on with this team right now. DG needs to justify his foolish signing of this guy and it's going to hurt this team.

I dont believe the OL was the reason for Stewart's struggles. But Smith is right about our RBs getting tackled behind the LOS.
Generally speaking, you wont have negative yards unless your RB is getting hit in the backfield. Which is still happening WAY too often.

Remember when the Giants got Brian Mitchell from the Eagles? How did that turn out. :-* This is the same thing different year. Nice name though "Jonathan Stewart" should be a mens clothing line.

The Oline isn't very good at this time but maybe with a handful of games at their new positions they will start to resemble an average one..
Until then it's going to be up to the play makers to perform and carry the team...

No one should sleep on Gallmen, he proved to be a tough down hill runner last year with enough wiggle in the hole to make something out of nothing,I don't know if Stewart will work out or not think his role will be short yardage goalline and mentoring saquon and gallmen,they want to get years out of there 2nd round pick there no better guy to show him how to survive and last. |

I initially thought the signing of Jonathan Stewart was for DG to bring some leadership over to mentor RB and that maybe Jonathan Stewart had something left in the tank, but its looking more as if DG just wanted to give one of his old players a ast payday because the guy should've been cut already. |

I wouldn't call it special, but assuming Saquon is somewhere in the area code of talent that we think he is, this would be more than sufficient from him. |

That's funny. None of the other RB's struggled in the preseason behind that oline. I personally think Stewart should not even made the team. Not only was he not getting any rushing yards. He also missed blocks in pass protection which should not happen from a veteran player....
