It doesn't get much worse than his stat line this pre-season. I imagine he'll put up better numbers than that. I just hope his chances are limited because we have better options on the team right now.
In the past it was all about having a veteran RB that can take care of his pass blocking assignments. As long as Gallman and Barkley have that down I don't know how crucial Stewart is apart from a mentor/veteran locker room presence.

That's funny. None of the other RB's struggled in the preseason behind that oline. I personally think Stewart should not even made the team. Not only was he not getting any rushing yards. He also missed blocks in pass protection which should not happen from a veteran player.... don't forget, he fumbled in the red zone as well. I'm just glad he's behind Gallman on the depth chart.

JS will get 500yds & 6-7 TDs this yr, I'm calling it now. Youse guys are basing all this doom & gloom on the guy based on 1 pre-season game 7 a handful of carries? I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that it was just 1 bad pre season game for him. He’s done. And I’m basing that off the fact of watching him run slowly, have no vision and put forth little effort.

these former Panthers really stick together. First Gettlemen brings this washed up Stewart in then a former teammate blames his failures on the O-line.
Steve Smith couldn't get him a job at NFLN so he lobbies for him to stay here. this will be a loss for us im afraid. Go Giants.

One more time, our OL is improved measurably over last year. They are still not close to being good.

I may be in the minority but I think Stewart will do fine when called upon. He is an older vet and IMO was taking it easy in the preseason. When he first came to the Giants and was asked what advice he would give to the younger backs the first thing he mentioned was "taking care of your body". Why would he or should he bust his ass in preseason at his age? I may be 100% wrong and I know his regular season production has gone down each season the last few years. Over paid? Yes......I agree. But I do think he will get it done when called upon.

There is a lot of wear and tear on those tires. We'll find out soon.

What are you basing this lofty prediction on? He's in decline and he's slow.
He's his last 4 seasons
2014: 4.6 YPC 2015: 4.1 YPC 2016: 3.8 YPC 2017: 3.4 YPC
He should have been cut. He should be out of the league. Gallman is a far better RB at this point. There is so much BS going on with this team right now. DG needs to justify his foolish signing of this guy and it's going to hurt this team.
Remember when the Giants got Brian Mitchell from the Eagles? How did that turn out. This is the same thing different year. Nice name though "Jonathan Stewart" should be a mens clothing line.
I once almost got into a fight with Brian Mitchell at a Mobile station on the Merritt Parkway in CT, years ago. I was like, "oh, snap, that was Brian Mitchell." He would've destroyed me.

I really hope Stewart makes me eat those words by season's end. Love to see a Otis Anderson type of resurrection from him. Though I suspect Otis himself would be more productive this season than Stewart will be. No RB in the NFL was slower than OJ in 1990 but he still was a productive player. His behind was wider than he was tall that year.
