Now that my opinions are in the form of an accredited writer let’s see how the board’s opinion changes.. lol You don't want to go hanging your hat on the Paul Schwartz peg. Especially when he's nor telling any football fan anything they don't already know. As per usual. Gotcha, assuming you’re a locked in fan... but 🤫, the other side may take a few weeks to see it...

I went to one Giants game at the stadium in 2007. It was the Minnesota game. Pretty much Eli's worst game of his life up to that point. We walked out of the stadium thinking that we were seeing the beginning of the end. We all know what transpired after that... If I remember right 5 picks and 2 pick 6s. He was resilient however, and as yo yo as his early career was he always had that ability to shake it off week to week. I really think the Shockey injury while looking bad on paper, helped Eli emerge. Yeah Eli was a roller coaster ride. The problem is NY fans have no patience and it makes them lose the ability to see context. Looking back Eli played pretty goddamn good back then. I think we'd all love this team go 11-5 like the 05 Giants. Who wouldn't love watching Eli to Burress again? Or that Osi/Strahan pass rush. Those were great times even if they had their struggles. That's what made the wins so memorable. And Eli was a crucial part of a lot of those wins, and sometimes a crucial part to the losses. Just like Jones would be now. I personally see then as pretty similar. I just think Eli was much farther along in terms of awareness in year 2. BUT you could actually practice like a football team back then

If you cannot run the ball because one of the 5 o-line men on every play misses his guy. Or dosn't know who his guy is. They have trouble getting one play correct as a unit. It is not just one guy it is the entire line. That takes most of the playbook away from the QB . The offense is handcuffed. They cannot use any 2nd short and or 3rd and short plays. 3rd and 8 has an NFL success rate of 34% 3rd and 10 24% . We have been in 3rd and 8 + most of the time. Forget the QB being off his game. Forget the Turnovers. If we cannot somehow get that 3rd down distance to a manageable number. Winning is not going to happen. The first thing that needs to be fixed is to find a blocking scheme that fits this O-line on running downs. We need to get 3rd down to an average of 3rd and 4 or less. Each of the 5 has his strengths . If those strengths are not used effectively . The result is what we see. Drafting Trevor won't fix that.

They are playing as 5 individuals on 5 separate islands, which is no bueno

If the oline could figure out run blocking, we'd almost have a football team, even with this weak roster. we cant even get out of the gate with this awful running game. solve that alone and the rest of this would fall at least somewhat into place. and i wish we had one top tier receiver. ONE.
its hard evaluating guys when everything is in shambles around them.
i still think DJ could be the guy, but we gotta give the kid something to work with, somewhere on this team. no receivers, no separation, no run game. we gotta give the dude something here.

Agreed, until we can run the ball somewhat reliably; you really can't evaluate much else.

Its litterally a worst case chicken or the egg situation with a constipated hen thrown in 1. Modern NFL = have weapons to scare defenses out of the box to make it much easier to run it...or do things to spread out the box....teams apparently have started to 2.have an at least average O line to be able to run it when presented good running opportunities and keep at it 3.average to above average backs Now 1.Slayton is now apparently on every teams radar after the Steelers game ...now if we had even another moderate threat opposite him that could take it house it would be enough to make teams pay...problem is that we have 2 slot possesion guys that operate best shallow to 15 yards...its now easy to defend our passing attack by shading the safety over Slayton and press our other recievers..with the other safety in a shallow zone ..a lot of people within 10 yards also makes it easy to blitz the running backs on every play with little fear of a big play which 2 stresses a very inexperienced O line as a unit even more because teams can now send 1 to 2 players every play at the running backs run or pass, which overwhelms the line because tbey are still at the thinking stage and all playing as individuals. 3.Barkley gone now reduces our running game to at best hoping for a string of 4 to 5 yard gains, which while could be good at getting a few drives going,is not sustainable in this era if teams don't fear a home run on a running play.. All this has now thrown tbe entire offense into an abyss...especially that Garrett has been going with a very small playbook to begin with designed for what he thought would work best with our current personal till week 2 so now they have to somehow figure out how to adjust and make changes on the fly.... Which will take a few weeks (Remember when we lost Hilliard,Dixon and Carter in a 2 week period mid 2002 and it took Fassel and Payton a few weeks to make adjustments..this will take a few weeks as the teams is still in preseason evaluation mode because of no offseawon and no preseason games, and adding 2 WRs in mid to late August) This is legit worst case scenario for any QB..now a young qb learning a new system in his 2nd year and the game still not slowing down for him... This is how you destroy a young qb and its alarming (and the "**** continuity" crowd now all is calling Jones a bust when i predicted this is a real possibility if this happens) My hope is that (and the instant gratification crowd is going to hurl insults as usual)is that we have a Thursday night game in a few weeks...some adjustments are made during that period as we have extra time as i think by then we know who can do what that is left and we see a little upkick in play...then after the bye week the last of the adjustments are made, the line is stabilized and Jones begins to progress... These next few weeks are going to be rough I'm afraid
