What happened to Dak today was awful. One of the first things said was Dez saying if he can’t play again Jerry Jones better take care of him? I assume that means financially. As in more than the 31 million guaranteed dollars he will end up making for 4.5 games this year? If he can’t figure out how to live off that he’s got bigger problems than that ankle. I’ve had enough of pro athletes lately. You get paid absurdly, stop crying about money. Additionally, much like actors, your celebrity means nothing when you attach political opinions to it. I couldn’t care less what a guy who can throw a football, baseball or shoot a basketball thinks about the political world. I do hope Dak makes a full recovery I just get real sick of hearing some of this nonsense from pro athletes.

Exactly meanwhile a soldier gets paid what amounts to peanuts and continues to do his job!

That would make me think that Jones told him he would give him a big contract if he plays on the tag this year. That decision could have cost dak 100s of millions of dollars so he definitely has a right to be a bit salty.

Pro athletes are a rare breed. They live in a reclusive bubble, that only the “privilege” get to see. They make an absurd amount of money, which I’m cool with. They deserve their money, anyone who plays at the highest level. Should be accommodated accordingly.
As for Dak. He had a very nice contract offer from the Cowboys. I believe it was for 5 years and about $110 million guaranteed. Dak for whatever reason, turned it down and bet on himself. Well, he lost. He is still getting a handsome $30+ million this year, so don’t feel to bad for him. But, if he didn’t turn down that offer he would feel a lot more secure with his employment and future earnings. He’s going to learn real quick that the Cowboys owe him nothing. They could draft a new quarterback and Dak will be yesterdays news. Cold truth in an extremely rough business. No one remembers what you have done, it’s what have you done for me lately?

I think the importance society pays to athletes (and other entertainers) is ridiculous. They get paid a shiton of money to do basically artful calisthenics. Some say they are fine with it......hmmm ok but some of those people vociferously object to others (non-entertainers) making a fraction of that....Hypocrisy on parade. Anyways I do realize that these athletes put their bodies and health on the line every time they step on the field, I respect that. But they also are well compensated for that as well... Or... To put it another way; I will take a quote out of science fiction master Robert Heinlein's last novel; "To Sail Beyond The Sunset" www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/347280-to-sail-beyond-the-sunsetFYI: Those who wish to read some of his works, be forewarned; A lot of them are highly sexualized and goes waaay beyond societal norms...in other words; not for the faint of heart

Athletes are entertainers. Nothing more or less. IMO, fans are way to emotionally invested into these players. I think the resentment in this thread is the result of knowing too much about them. I miss the days where all we knew about them was what they did on their respective fields of play. Too much access causes people to nitpick about every thing that they do. If I am wrong, let me know. Back in the day, you didn't know or care about an athlete's political preference. Nowadays, that is just another thing to hold against them.

A lot of that has to do with media leaks inside of the building. You don't hear too much about that kind of stuff with certain teams. You don't hear about that stuff in KC, New England, Baltimore, or Green Bay to name a few.

We are the people that ultimately allow them to get paid. So who's the delusional ones?

I have never been one of those fans that calls for players to get paid big money, because it ends up hurting us in the end. It leads to higher ticket prices, parking fees, concession prices, and more commercials.

Wonder how much the ticket prices at KC went up to compensate their overpriced QB? The way the Giants have stunk it up for yrs now, you'd think they woulda lowered their prices 5% every yr to show some sorta appreciation for the fans. And as was stated by the OP, if Dak can't live off $31 million for the rest of his life, he's got problems. It's called "living within your means".

I will say this about the Giants, they have not raised ticket prices since MetLife was built. They may have raised parking $5 in that same time. But we all know the minute the Giants look to have turned the corner, the prices are going up.
