Yankees adding Robinson Chirinos has Gerrit Cole intrigue Gerrit Cole might have a familiar target at his disposal this season. Robinson Chirinos, who finished last season with the Mets, agreed to terms Monday with the Yankees on a minor league contract, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed. Chirinos, 36, played in 2019 for Houston, where he received plenty of action behind the plate with Cole on the mound: Over 68 ²/₃ innings with Chirinos as the catcher, Cole pitched to a 1.57 ERA with 114 strikeouts and 11 walks. nypost.com/2021/02/15/yankees-adding-robinson-chirinos-has-gerrit-cole-intrigue/

Hype train Yankees’ Jasson Dominguez ‘more advanced’ than Mike Trout at same age Jasson Dominguez has yet to play in a professional baseball game since signing with the Yankees in 2019, but the hype for the teenage sensation is reaching an apex. Dominguez, who turned 18 earlier this month, is “more advanced” than Mike Trout was at his age, according to Kiley McDaniel, author of ESPN’s top 100 MLB prospects list. “You can kind of pick whatever name you want. Technically, (Dominguez is) more advanced than Trout was at the same age because Trout went, what was it, [25th] overall as an 18-year-old, and this guy is not 18 yet and he was considered the best 16-year-old in the world a year ago, and he’s probably still the best 17-year-old,” McDaniel said last week on a conference call. nypost.com/2021/02/16/yankees-jasson-dominguez-more-advanced-than-mike-trout-at-same-age/

However, saying that he is better than Mike Trout in any aspect is a reach at this point. Mike Trout is one of the best players I've ever seen play. We won't see this young man with the big club until 2023 if I were to guess.

Some good news: Yankees' Clint Frazier named starting left fielder heading into 2021 MLB season 'Clint has earned his place,' manager Aaron Boone told reporters New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone shared an update on the club's outfield situation for the 2021 MLB season on Wednesday as pitchers and catchers started reporting to spring training. Boone told reporters, including MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, that Clint Frazier will be the Yankees starting left fielder entering the season. "Clint has earned his place," Boone said. Frazier, 26, appeared in 39 games for the Yankees in 2020. He played 28 of those games in right field (while Aaron Judge was on the injured list), with the remainder spent in left. He hit .267/.394/.511(149 OPS+) with eight home runs and 26 RBI during the abbreviated season. Frazier even earned a surprise Gold Glove nomination in right field. The Yankees acquired Frazier at the 2016 trade deadline from Cleveland. Since joining the club, Frazier has been through a lot. He experienced some tension with the New York media, missed nearly all of the 2018 season due to concussions, had to work on his defensive issues while in the minors, got passed on for big-league promotion in 2019 and started the season at Triple-A, and had been frequently listed in potential trade rumors. But the young slugger will now get the chance to prove his full potential as the Yankees everyday left fielder in 2021. "[Clint] has continued to reinforce that he is a force and has gotten better and better," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told WFAN in January. "This past year is another testament to that. Going into this, without a doubt, he's solidified himself as the guy and he's been a guy who has been big for us. He's taken advantage of opportunities and improved on everything. "He wasn't a finished product when we acquired him, but he's closing the gap on that ceiling. Now that his concussion is in the past, you're seeing the real deal. He had a hell of a year and should be very proud of it. We're proud of him." So, for now, the current Yankees outfield situation for 2021 will be as follows: Right field - Judge Center - Aaron Hicks Left field - Frazier Depth - Mike Tauchman, Tyler Wade, Greg Allen (whom the Yankees recently acquired via trade with San Diego Padres) www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/yankees-clint-frazier-named-starting-left-fielder-heading-into-2021-mlb-season/

So, is he a bench player behind Frazier now? I'd be ok with that. But if they are going to force him into the OF every other game I don't like this. And I guess Tauchman loses ABs

The only way Gardner is leaving the Yankees is in a body bag. That won't do it. they'd build a new monument for him in center field and bury him there. And/or fans would stand outside of Yankees stadium with picket signs saying either "That's my left fielder" or "free Brett". I was at that Raiders game when Eli was benched and those fans looked like fools.

I have no problem bringing Gardner back. The days of him getting 500+ at bats are over. He’s good to have in the club house, very good defender, and a solid base runner.
It’s not like he’s going to take a spot away from another player. And I’m sure injures will happen, Judge, Stanton and Hicks are frequently on the disabled list. And $4 million dollars is peanuts.

That told me the Yankees are finally moving on from past accomplishments. Tauchman will get his at bats, as long as he shows he can hit consistently.

But if he is starting 2-3 times a week in LF, Im not going to agree with it....

Clarke Schmidt out of Yankees’ rotation competition with elbow injury TAMPA — The Yankees are dealing with their first injury of the spring, with Clarke Schmidt out at least three or four weeks with an elbow injury, according to manager Aaron Boone. The right-hander underwent an MRI exam that showed he’d suffered a strain of his common extensor tendon, which is similar to tennis elbow. Schmidt was examined by team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad. Boone said the injury is unrelated to the Tommy John surgery Schmidt underwent in 2017. nypost.com/2021/02/22/clarke-schmidt-out-of-yankees-competition-with-elbow-injury/
