the problem is the jaguars are a 1 win team as well and are definitely in the market for a QB. i'm assuming we win a couple meaningless games and end up picking behind the jets and the jaguars which leaves us with trey lance as the next best option. kind of like how we won a meaningless game against the skins last year and gifted them chase young. Oh no, don't go there with that meaningless win over the Skins last yr. A ton of people here wanted the win more than the #2 pick, it meant the world to them that we win that game. I wonder how much of a difference a Chase Young on this D-line might have meant in all the close games we've lost this yr. 6 of our losses have been by 10 or much less. I knew that the 14-3 early lead would eventually evaporate as the game wore on, how many games has the D blown a double digit lead in this yr already, at least 3 I believe. I also wonder how many games we woulda won with a healthy SB in the lineup? SF game is only game this yr we were just blown away, this team has been competitive in very other game & could easily be 5-3 or 4-4 at the midway point. I know DJ is turning the ball over an avg of 2x pg but I still think he has the skill set to become a very good QB for us once we can surround him with a better OL, another deep threat at WR & a healthy SB in the backfield. If he has all that next yr & is still turning the ball over 2x pg, then yeah, we may have to look for a new QB in 22', but for now, I believe that you give a rookie player at least 3 full NFL seasons before you can fully make a legit evaluation on if he's the player to keep/resign or cut loose on his rookie deal. People wanting DJ gone after only 20 NFL starts are not the ones you wanna be listening to. Darnold is 11-21 so far in 32 starts, but he's been on some pretty bad Jets teams as well since 18'. Unfortunately for him, if Jets have the #1 pick, his career in NY is over as the Jets will be drafting Lawrence if he doesn't declare to stay in school. Giants need to draft the top DE with the #1 pick imo, then go after best deep threat WR with #2 pick, then OL with #3 pick.

Jones is a big reason the are in games and a big reason they lose games. He is more of an enigma at this point than Eli ever was. Justin Fields will not be the slam dunk cure but something may need to be done. How about getting a transitional veteran QB until they find another young prospect? Or taking a flyer on Sam Darnold, who is being dismembered methodically by a transcendently bad team right now. He can't be worse than what we got... can he? if that the case I'd stick with Jones

Here's the issue. You don't take a QB because you need one. You take a QB because you found the right one. Its been a few years since the Barkley trade and you can debate taking a RB #2 overall till you're blue in the face, but the more important evaluation is did you pass up on a QB at that spot that realistically you should have taken? Most were furious we didn't take Darnold. Passing on him looks like a good call right now. Passing up on Allen, you can make a strong case was a mistake. It was the same thing with Haskins. OMG we're so stupid we didn't take Haskins. Nope. Absolutely the right call. At the end of the day these scouting departments have to do the work to prove that Fields is worth the #2 or #3 pick. We keep missing on HIGH DRAFT PICKS and that's why we're in this mess. Drafting for need creates blinds spots in judgement. Every QB you take you're committing to at least 2 years with them under center. Realistically we probably still have Jones next year unless Judge/Garrett make an internal campaign of "he's not our QB". If we get the #1 or #2 pick, it will force a decision on Jones probably earlier than the team would like (if we get the #1 pick, I think that Jones is gone no matter what). The problem is that this is a QB league. Nothing else matters unless you have the right guy at QB. Not sure how anyone could look at Fields and Jones and conclude that Jones has a better chance to be that right guy. My guess is that we win a meaningless game or 2 to keep us out of the top 2 spots and have no choice but to ride it out with Jones.

Ohio State QB’s remind me of the USC QB’s. Stay away from them.

If not need, what should be the strategy? drafting a player at a position where you have no need is not smart but it satisfies the people who say BPA which is BS...

Man, Gettleman has destroyed this team I have always been a big Gettleman supporter since he got here but he has worn my loyalty very thin at this point, I know he can only do so much each year but there had to be options available at WR for this year, a good #1 WR would have taken some of the heat off Jones and given him more options other than Slayton...

We wont’t get a chance at Fields unless we have the #1 or #2 pick, which I don’t think is likely. But I think that absent a huge leap by Jones from this point forward, we would have no choice but to take Fields if we had the chance. (Of course, this is conditioned on Gettleman being fired since he is "in love" with Jones).
I don't think that the Giants would dump Jones for Lance, since there is so much projection involved with Lance. Much riskier pick.
The wildcard is Zack Wilson, whose stock is rapidly rising. At the end of the day, it might require a top 3-5 pick to get him. If we are in that range, that will likely mean that Jones did not take a step forward at the end of the season and that a new GM will be making that pick. I wouldn't rule out picking Wilson in that scenario.

Well this conversation sure has taken a big turn.. now 7th pick in the draft and probably will drop lower maybe even out of top 10 with a few more wins. Its conceivable that 6/ 7 wins will be enough to take the division.
That team gets a WC game and most likely lose and their reward will be drafting between 19/25.
Now if its the Giants and the draw TB.. i think they beat them bec they should of beat them the first time

I don't know what some of your obsessions are with OSU quarterbacks, lol. They have never once translated to NFL success. They just aren't a QB school. They are system. All system.

And you know the drill on espn and Haskins. And they were all wrong so far. Haskins' book has barely been written though. He might turn out to be OK. He started 1 year in college and has barely had a cup of coffee in the NFL. Fields and Haskins have nothing in common football wise except for the school that they went to. I don't get it when people try to compare the two players. It is like comparing an NBA point guard with a power forward. They couldn't be any more different.

But you have to admit every year there are QBs every team "must have." And if 10% of them are even in the league for a second starting contract its a lot. So much of it depends what kind of organization the drafting team has (or doesnt have?). How many people said we had to have Josh Rosen? How many in DC are still denying what drafting RGIII set them back? Many here also wanted Darnold - does he really suck or is it the organization? What exactly did "Suck for Luck" get the Colts? A bunch of regular season and some postseason success. And then he quit because he finally realized his owners wouldn't or couldn't protect him. I still believe most "great" QBs end up great because the team provided for them to be successful. Built the team around their most expensive player.

QB is the most important position on the field, so that is why plenty of them are overstated come draft time. Analysts are way more wrong than right when it comes to the position. It is what it is. What sucks is not hitting on that position can set you back 5 years. I remember the Seahawks receiving F grades the year they drafted Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner, two players that might be wearing yellow jackets.

Still went with Wilson when all was said and done. Most coaches would have started the high priced FA pickup. Pete Carrol does it differently than most, and has been quite successful at that.
