Donald is just 29 and has 85.5 sacks and over 200 QB hits from the DT position. Thats just INSANE. Lets let him finish his career before we judge, but damn. I say he has another 7-8 seasons left at minimum Giants should have drafted him. They tried multiple times to find a Justin Tuck on the inside yet couldn’t resist OBJ. Imagine Donald with JPP and maybe Okwara at DE and somebody else playing the other DT.

I couldn't stop laughing at Aikman's nonsense until I found the mute button pretty much after this comment..

Everyone can have an opinion...his is a strong one.
Long way to go to overtake LT, IMO.

Why does a comment like this get people riled up? Troy was just doing his job filling up air time with conversation.

Why does a comment like this get people riled up? Troy was just doing his job filling up air time with conversation. Well, it is known that Troy is full of hot air. It only makes sense that he be the one to fill up air time. Since he likes to compare current players to legendary ones. He should say how Derrick Henry’s season is the best from a running back, better than his former teammate Emmitt Smith.

I think comparing eras is impossible and is really just used to hype players of the time. Aaron Donald of today might have been better than LT back in the 80s and 90s. The game changes. Players are bigger, stronger, faster than they ever were.
However, in terms of normalizing the comparison (besides the fact they play different positions), Donald is the best at his position and dominates more than any modern player today. LT transcended his position and changed football forever. Until another player changes the game, there will never be another LT.

Donald is ONE OF the most Dominating Defensive Players I've ever seen that is not even debatable. When you start trying to compare him to Legends like Reggie and LT, that is always a difficult discussion especially those of us who been blessed to have seen them all in their Prime
It has been some amazing players in this Modern ERA of Football! Few years ago Von Miller was that Dominating force and you also had JJ Watt in his Prime before Injuries getting those same comparisons to Reggie and LT and now it is Aaron Donald. After Donald it will likely be Chase Young and Myles Garrett getting those Legendary Comparisons.
By 2023 it is a Kid out of Oregon Kayvon Thibodeaux who look like he is going to be another Great Edge Rusher. Then by 2025 it is a kid out of California just committed to USC, Kory Foreman, as well as a kid out of Ohio who is going to OSU Jack Sawyer...both look as if they're going to be very Special Players as well.
Bad News for Offensive Lineman who are asked to try and Block these Physical Freaks

I don’t take offence to it because Donald really is a an all time great player already. Since coming into the league the value on those interior pass rushers has really increased and he is helping to redefine what “undersized” means for an interior pass rusher. You also have to consider the fact that most people’s view of LT is not objective and is influenced heavily by the mythological narrative that built up around him.
With that being said the guys that do have an objective view of LT (BB, Parcells, the coaches who had to prepare for him and players that played against him) almost unanimously say he was the greatest ever and still is. So I would defer to them over someone like Aikman that played against LT in his twilight years and who has had a longer career as a colour man than as an NFL player. It’s literally Aikmans job to add hyperbolic commentary to the play by play.

If any of you remember Aaron Donald's 2018 season when he had 20.5 sacks as a DT, 5 years of double digit sack seasons, and 8 sacks in a season being his career low (rookie year) you would kind of think that his opinion isn't that far fetched. I disagree with him wholeheartedly, but I refuse to call his opinion on this subject matter idiotic. Donald's resume has plenty of clout and evidence to back up that kind of opinion.

It's also worth noting JJ Watt consistently had more tackles (by a significant amount some years) than Donald during their respective runs of dominance. It’s also worth noting that Aikman is an idiot. Aikman's announcing career was derailed when they teamed him with Joe Buck...

It was a baseless opinion. I’ll tell you why, Aikmans mistake was comparing a current player to arguably the best player that has ever played the game. That’s like saying Mike Trout is better than Babe Ruth. And speaking of sacks, let’s compare Donald to let’s say John Randle. Both players their first 7 seasons, not counting Randles rookie year, they are off by 1 sack. No one would dare compare Randle to LT. But, in today’s world we hold current players on monuments. Keith Millard played defensive tackle in the ‘80s. He had a 20+ sack season. Does anyone even know who he is? Aaron Donald is a fantastic player, compare him to his peers. Who play with the same rules, in a pass happy league. Aikman was speaking out of his ass with this one. That’s why it’s called shit..

Our own Michael Strahan just said that Aaron Donald is the best defender that he has ever seen play football. Thoughts? Another living in the moment comment. Aaron Donald got shut out yesterday playing with torn cartilages in his rib. LT played with a torn shoulder and singlehandedly beat the Saints. Or, how bout in ‘82 playing on a bad knee. He destroyed the Lions offense and accounted for all 13 points. As a pro, he has suffered similar injuries to that knee in 1982 and 1984, torn ligaments in an arch in 1982, a concussion in 1984, a torn hamstring in 1987, a torn deltoid muscle in 1988, a chip fracture of the ankle in 1989, a torn hamstring in 1990 and torn thumb ligaments in ‘91. And he didn’t miss a game.. There’s Lawrence Taylor, then there’s everyone else.. I love ya Strahan, but you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about..

Troy Aikman has a right to his opinion and Giants fans really should stop being so delicate.
That being said, I have always thought Aikman is a lousy color man. He adds no insight to what we're watching.
Oh yeah......Phil>Aikman.

Man John Randle doesn't get enough credit but boy was he a beast in Minnesota. He would be elevated more like Sapp had he had the playoff wins and title like Sapp had. Funny just mentioned Randle to you dude was a beast. Also one of the most genuine good people in the league and so much fun.. His trash talking was more of a comic roasting..how can you concentrate when you have a guy saying the most hysterical shit to you (Favre said Randle was the reason why he had more delay of game penalties against him because he couldn't compose himself from laughing out loud trying to call a play) Living down here Sapp was one of the biggest scumbags ever...

Taylor was still aGiant when Strahan was a rookie after the pec and the Achilles rupture and Taylor still was one of the better OLBs in the league at the end of his career.
