Just said something to that affect during the Seahawks/Rams broadcast.....I actually like Aikman but is he drunk? For what it's worth he said he's better than Reggie White too. I mean "maybe" you make the statement when Donald's career is said and done but today? Just asinine. - “I’ve played against Reggie White and Lawrence Taylor, and I’m telling you this guy (Aaron Donald) is the best defensive player I’ve ever seen.”

It's just an opinion. I totally disagreed with it too, but I've heard way worse takes than that. I think Mel Kiper comparing Jamarcus Russell to John Elway is arguably the worst ever.

Just another reason to never take PFF seriously.

I think Aikmen needs to get the plate in his head checked out Donald is a great player but Taylor was a game changing innovator

LT changed the game.
He made LT's must have long arms and quick feet. Every LT should give LT 5-10% of their salaries cause he made them a priority position.
They made sacks an official stat after LT's rookie season. Whatever his total is they supposedly owe him 9 more cause his rookie sacks didn't count on his total. The NFL officially let OL stand in a 2 point stance cause of LT.
Nobody had ever seen anybody that big that fast before.

Aikman can suck it, what did Giants fans do wrong to deserve to have their games called by a former Cowboy who blatantly roots for his former team during broadcasts? He was beside himself while celebrating during the Gallman fumble, when he clearly recovered. We’ve been dealing with that shit since the 2008 playoffs.

Thats one of the worst statements I've ever heard any sportscaster make. There is LT level than there is everything else. LT was the greatest defensive player of all time and possibly the greatest football player that ever put on a helmet. He changed the game.

"You talk about players having a great motor? This guy has a jet engine."
That was such an awesome quote by Merlin Olsen.

I expect aikman to make a comment like that: very little to consider! Have you ever heard that from anyone else? NO! And you will not, ever!

Dude, I heard this too...Immediately turned to my girl (A Bills fan) and told her he was smoking crack. I mean really? The best defensive player of all time vs Aaron Donald? C'mon, man.

All just talk. Like the people saying Mahommes is the greatest QB ever....just too early.
What I really found surprising is that stat they put up during the game for the most sacks in their first 7 seasons. Donald had 85.5 and Reggie White had 110 lol. LT for his part was more than just a pass rusher.

Are we really going to listen to a guy who’s a concussion away from eating apple sauce with a fork? This is classic living in the now, comment. Donald is a fantastic player, 1st ballot hall of fame player. But, LT was on a different level. Donald isn’t even the greatest Ram yet. He has yet to pass Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, or Jack Youngblood.
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Some, stink more than others. This one stinks!

With that said....NO he's not better than LT but he's in the running for best DT ever. Hes definitely better than Warren Sapp that's for sure.

It's useless comparing people from different positions. Donald can only be compared to Sapp, Reggie White, deacon Jones, etc. LT has to be compared to other LBs... and in that comparison he comes out at the top. In terms of influencing and disrupting the offense, no one compares to LT. They designed new offensive blocking schemes just to deal with him, especially after they realized there was no back in the NFL that could slow him down. Use your TE to block him and you take a weapon away from the offense. Pull the tackle back to block him often worked because of their size, but LT would beat them with his speed and moves, plus they decreased their ability to block the rest of the D line with that tackle pulling back to concentrate on LT. He chased down RB's from behind, all the way across to the other side of the field, when they ran away from him. (LT gave thanks to Carl Banks for that. No one was better than Banks at making them string out the play, and the RB finding no hole to cut upfield, cuz Banks was always there.) And, of course, no team ever tried to run/sweep in LT's direction... you simply never saw them try. It was always... run away from him.... roll the QB out away from him. He made game saving INT's when he had to fall back into coverage, ala the great pick 6 he made against Detroit for about 95 yards on Thanksgiving day. Just a stupid comparison by Aikman. Teams just don't change their entire schemes to account for Donald. They did for LT.

Teams just don't change their entire schemes to account for Donald. They did for LT. Didn’t LT play the Mike position for a few games when Carson went down in ‘83? And Taylor still got 1st team all pro and pro bowl honors. And you’re right, Donald and Taylor play two completely different positions. Compare him to Merlin Olsen, or Reggie White. Hell, try comparing him to Randy White or Bob Lilly. Aikman clearly got caught up in the moment. Lawrence Taylor by all accounts is the best defender that has ever played. You can make an argument he’s the best football player ever. Donald isn’t even the best player in the sport now. LT won an MVP award when John Elway, Joe Montana and Dan Marino were in their prime. Let’s see Donald do that right now..

Yeah, pure hyperbole. Honestly everyone forgets, JJ Watt has pretty much done the same things as Donald. Dealt with 2 more years of injuries though.
On the sack front, JJ in 7 seasons has 92 (doesn't count the entire year he missed, but does count the one he missed 12 games and had only 1.5). Did both these guys elevate even beyond what Warren Sapp and John Randle did...I'm not sure. Sapp probably, but John Randle was an animal.
Honestly a closer hall of fame analog for both of them as a defensive player is probably Strahan, not LT haha
Takes away nothing from Donald, guy is an incredible player.

It's also worth noting JJ Watt consistently had more tackles (by a significant amount some years) than Donald during their respective runs of dominance.

Donald is just 29 and has 85.5 sacks and over 200 QB hits from the DT position. Thats just INSANE.
Lets let him finish his career before we judge, but damn. I say he has another 7-8 seasons left at minimum
