There is a chance this trade gets nullified if they can't get under the cap I don't know how this works but teams get penalized I think for this if they can't get under Didn't the 49ers lose picks after operating over the cap in tbe late 80s? Yes, that's right, they were exposed and lost 2 draft picks in the early 2000's I think. I just don't understand how its possible for the Eagles to get under the cap. Their highest paid players have more dead cap then cap hit. They are going to have to restructure and extend almost everyone. They can only cut a few players and it isn't enough.... Probably Which puts them at the brink again the next 2 years at least so they can't sign anyone...and more potential dead money down the line ...

I agree the NFL has to do something this year to allow these teams to be compliant. Maybe allow them to borrow from their future caps? I think this. The NFL itself is to blame. Allowing teams to kick the can is a problem .Maybe placing hard caps on how much money a team can push into the future. Pretty sure you can borrow from future years was negotiated into this past season’s deal in anticipation of the drop. I'm guessing this is it which means they have squat for 2022 and 2023 .it's the only way I can see them getting out of this Tvey were way over the cap even if they didn't reduce this year ...

There has to be a way. To think an NFL franchise can’t sign their draft picks is ridiculous. They knew the ramifications in dead money when they traded Wentz I’m sure they have a plan to get their cap back in place. Reason I say this is because of Jeffrey Lurie. He’s one of the better owners in the sport. To think he was asleep at the wheel with his team in regards to the cap is unlike him. But hey, let’s quit talking about it. Let’s hope they are doomed till the end of time. The crazy part of this is I don't even think that they would be under the cap even if they cut every player they could. They would still be over the cap, let alone their draft picks. I've never seen a team is such a bad cap spot as the Eagles are this season... The crazier part is the Saints are in a worse situation than the Eagles. As of right now the Saints are $64 million over the cap. Like I mentioned, no way will an NFL team be in such dire situations that they can’t sign anyone is hard to believe. But know what I noticed? Teams are willing to eat the dead money to rid the team of a quarterback. The Rams are $30 million in dead money, and the Eagles are at $34. It used to be when you signed your franchise quarterback he was with you for the duration of the contract. Now, if he’s not the guy teams are cutting their losses and dealing with the dead money.

could be that the Colts got their missing piece.. I said it last year. The Colts were a QB away from dethroning the Chiefs. They have one of the best offensive lines in the league, they have a solid defense, and are well coached by Frank Reich. Besides the Chiefs and Bills the Colts are right in the mix with the top teams in the AFC. The Colts are exactly how I wanted the Giants to rebuild their team. We forget, they lost one of the best players in the sport in Andrew Luck to retirement. That alone should have put them back a couple of years. Instead, they move forward and continue to win. Well run organization. Who knows if Wentz is the replacement for Luck? Wentz was a head case for most of the year. Frank Reich must really know how to handle quarterbacks in order to make this work

I an suggesting teams allows to borrow not to sign FA or draft pics but to be able to fulfill the contract obligations. Bring them at least to 0 on the cap. And allow them to work from there. The result will be less cap space for that team until the money is repaid next year the following ......

O the flip side of this, da iggles might be drafting a qb at 6. That would make it likely that one of the stud wrs could fall to us at 11. Hurst doesn't strike me as franchise material. In this scenario they will have 2 inexperienced qbs to field. In addition in order to make the salary cap work they will have to shed many vet contracts leaving a younger team with a rookie head coach. Hmmmm

These teams aren’t run by morons who just got the job out of College. I’m sure they will get it all figured out. No one knew how the pandemic would affect the league. I said it last year. The Colts were a QB away from dethroning the Chiefs. They have one of the best offensive lines in the league, they have a solid defense, and are well coached by Frank Reich. To think this was just a stop gap would be foolish. I like Frank Reich, if anyone could get the most out of a QB it’s him.

Not a bad move for both parties. The Eagles desperately wanted to trade him, and took the best offer. Hard to unload on a quarterback with a huge salary. They Colts got their quarterback, and didn’t have to give up the farm to do so. could be that the Colts got their missing piece.. Of the available team that were fully ready save for QB, I'd say the Rams made out better than the Colts. Although if the Colts line remains in the top 10 like the Rams, it could happen.

Not a good stretch for first round QBs.

Couldn't happen to a better organization than the Eagles. To me this was a gift for the Colts. They can afford Wentz, they still have their 1st and 2nd pick this year, it's a " conditional " 2nd rd pick next year don't know the requirements for that. Wentz had his best seasons under Reich in Philly. And Indy will still be a run first team Wentz just has to contribute not carry the team.
The Colts are now in the top tier of a very strong AFC. KC, Buff, Balt, Cleve, and Tenn. Slip the Colts in where you will.

Wentz can be a very effective and top notch QB. Its a good move for the Colts for sure. Its a gamble but what QB coming to a new team type situation isnt?

Aaaand Wentz is hurt.
Eagles could wind up getting a decent pick out of this.
Edit, I just remembered its conditional.
He needs to play 75% of the snaps.
