Could be a quality backup qb here?

Alex Smith is interesting. Im not sure if any team would be interested in him as a full time starter (maybe Chicago or New England?) I would have no problem bringing him in as a backup to DJ. If DJ goes down, you have a more than capable guy behind him.
Have to see if the money is right tho.

He would be a great back up. This is a no brainer, make it happen. We have a QB who’s susceptible to injuries. What better way to combat that then a very good back up quarterback.
The thing is, I’m assuming he would want to exhaust all his options. He might want to start, he might want a certain amount of money. Who knows, what I do know is he would be a great addition to our team. Not just for his play on the field, he can be very valuable in the quarterback meetings.

How is this a good idea? Pretty much guarantees the Giants have to carry a 3rd QB with Smith's injury history and his lack of mobility.

Here?
He would cost too much
And
Do they really want that competition for DJ?
Smith could win that starting job.
I'm all for it if we could bring him in cheap but I don't see it happening.

First of all this is just a common sense move for Washington. Can't start a season with a QB that you have doubts he can last a season. plus they save 14.5 million off the cap. Last year everyone was happy he fought his way back. A feel good real life story. He's done, retire become a QB coach or something to stay in the game.
As far as the giants go run away from this as fast as you can. There are plenty of experienced QB's that will be available if thats what you want. And for league miimum on the cap.

DJ should get competition. Didn't Judge say no job is safe? So why not give him some competition. I agree if we could get him for a discount, he should be considered. Comeback player of the year is not chicken salad, had comparable stats to DJ with a higher completion %. I'm not sold on DJ sliding that far from his rookie year is alarming. Hopefully its not a trend

No.... great story and glad he made it back with is life and another chance to play in the NFL
He needs to retire before he gets his leg trashed again.
Besides we would like to have a back up that can play in the same system/scheme. Smith cannot do the run thing at all.

Don't know if I could take watching him on our team. His comeback was off the charts though.

I say screw that, he should have a player push him.

I would be perfectly fine bringing in a vet to compete with DJ in 2021. With DJs injury history, it cant hurt.

A player who will never impose a threat to Jones, and is cheap enough to sign. They might as well sign the Phillie Phanatic.

Tyrod Taylor is the perfect back up for this team Mariota is another name that makes a lot of sense but he may get an opportunity to start somewhere this coming season. Giants were fortunate for years with Eli's durability and never had to invest in a backup QB but we see a lot of other teams have quality backups. Jones has missed games the past two seasons so I think its time they bring in someone that can A) compete and push DJ B) fill in for DJ in the event he goes down again.

No im not Alex Smiths agent. As far as im concerned. DJ cant even hold Alex Smiths jock strap. There are only 9 current active players that have at least 100 victories in the NFL and Alex Smith is one of them. He is not flashy, he is often spoken of as a journyman castaway. He seems to always be a plan B or thats whats left and what does he continually do. Win NFL games. He is a true professional. I have much respect for the guy. This guy even has a higher winning percentage than Phillip Rivers, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford. I believe its .583 overall and puts him just under Drew Brees.
I know the injuries are unfortunate but for him to be considered a backup if he decides to come back is absurd. DJs overall .308 winning % in the NFL doesnt exactly paint him as untouchable yet.

Better comparison is to take Smith's first two years in the league. Some good stuff but not that great. Sound familar? Who is comparing a 15 year career to Jone's two? He's a back up no matter where he goes at this point. Its amazing he is even walking let alone playing in the NFL but that is just a great story not a reason for him to be a starter.

Damn.. We comparing a 15 year vet comimg off a catastrophic leg injury to a 2 year qb?? Alex Smith didn't even play in the playoffs. His comeback story is incredible but please lets pump the brakes on signing him to NY.
