This makes no sense. How is Shelton a better pass rusher when Tomlinson has had more sacks and quarterback hits in two years at the nose than Shelton had in his whole career? Also, if we’re going by PFF. This was Sheltons worst graded season since he’s been in the NFL. It’s a good signing, but he’s no where near the player Tomlinson is. Because Shelton is more consistent than Tomlinson at pushing the pocket. A D-Tackle can push the pocket well on a certain play, but not get credited with either a Sack or Hit. Shelton is a consistent pocket-pushing NT. Not all pocket pushes result in Sacks or Hits. But, not allowing the QB to step up in the pocket, is a valuable thing. for such a smart fella you’re wrong. The QB hits Tomlinson has are more. He was the disruption which often freed up other whereas Shelton plugs the GAP.

Was a Absolutely Monster in College at Washington, I haven't really kept up with him as a Pro though but looking at Clips it looks like he is still a Monster against the Run! Only a 2 Down Run Stuffer though a few of us wanted him in the draft. He’s a load and “yes” he’s more two down. He’d be gassed out by QTR 3 at his weight playing 3 downs.

This thread is further proof of just how clueless 80% of Giants fans are. Not a single clue. I despise this fanbase. Not all, but most for sure. SMH You have clueless people actually disagreeing with the premise of the OP, which is clearly 1000000% true. Maybe you can enlighten us as to the premise. It seems to me that you are suggesting that the mere signing of a guy to fill a hole left by the departure of another player suggests that player was easy to replace. Am I wrong? That seems to be the literal meaning. It also seems completely silly.
But you have the floor...What does.... "Danny Shelton signing proves how replaceable Tomlinson was" .....actually mean?
Please enlighten us hateable, clueless fans with your genius.

I hope you’re right. With the signing of Jackson, if they could’ve figured out how to keep Tomlinson, and drafted a playmaking LB, this D could’ve been top 5. And would’ve been real tough to score on in the winter. Oh well, can’t have everything in the CoVid cap era. This D, as currently constructed, will be a Top 5 D in 2021. Possibly, but how the offense controls T.O.P. and turnovers will be a big factor in that.

The #1 easiest type of player/position to find in the NFL is: Run-stuffing Nose Tackle You know how they say "You can find Running Backs anywhere"? Well, the following is even MORE TRUE: "You can find Run-Stuffing Nose Tackles anywhere"

Little Leonard at approx 300lbs is the lightweight. If the Giants happen to land 170lbs Devonta Smith he’ll need Judge to step in when the DL yells for the water boy. “No guys, he’s with us as a player”

I mean, a brilliant man such as yourself must choose your words carefully, how else can we stupid people understand the complex way your superior mind works?

I don't know why all the arguing ? Here 24 hrs after the trade I'm sitting down drinking my coffee and am damn pleased with this move. I believe Shelton is going to fill the hole left by Tomlinson very nicely. Shelton doesn't have to be as good a player to fit into this defense.
Look at this D line LW, Shelton, and Dex try and run vs this group. This is going to be a strong DL just like it was last year. I wasn't aware that I read that Shelton could penetrate on pass plays. I loved that about Tomlinson.
I really like this move it saves us a high draft pick having to pick a NT for this defense. We can go in so many directions with our top 3 picks. It helps give us the freedom of BPA in the draft. And even though I'm an admitted cynic of BPA we could actually do it this season with our top picks.
But it wouldn't hurt if one of these BPA's was a pass rusher. LOL

Watch the last two years of Tomlinson at the nose. He was quietly turning into one of the better nose tackles in this league. No one ever questioned what Shelton can do at the 0 tech. He’s your prototypical nose tackle. Massive, strong, takes up blockers. His addition will greatly help our run defense.

There is no replacement for Leonard Williams out there. Elite Blue-Chipper. All it took to replace Tomlinson was a 1-year flier on a 27-year-old journeyman on now his 4th NFL team. A better pass-rushing NT than Tomlinson for a fraction of the cost. Win-Win. To all the Tomlinson Truthers on here (I'm referring to you, TheAnalyst) ...do you see how easily replaceable Tomlinson's skill-set is? A dime a dozen - literally. Not sure you know what "proves" means

The most obvious correct move the Giants have made this offseason was not signing Tomlinson. Fixed for you. Oh. Okay. So you’re a little kid. Ok. Got it. Carry on.

It's sad to see Tomlinson go, especially since I was a big fan on his, but Shelton makes the loss easier to swallow

He's actually been fantastic against the run. He was never going to be a pass rusher I think Giants fans will be pleasantly surprised. Another massive benefit to this move is Dexter Lawerence can continue playing 3/5 tech and not have to play NT
