Im still a fan of Carter but his career with the NYG hinges on his injury. He had damn near 90% of the defensive snaps last year before he went down.

This is him against an NFL team. My favorite part of this game is how he lowers his shoulder to take on blockers and stop them dead in their tracks taking away any hope for a lane. Ojulari is going to be a stud.

Carter Xman Ojulari Smith Cam Brown Coughlin Plus what's his name FA Some of these guys can play inside as well.. Add to Martinez and Crowder inside Log jam But very possibly a very good deep unit..... I could see this being a make or break year for X. He hasn't done much of anything, and is a liability against the run. Dude was supposed to be a pass rushing specialist coming out of college and just never put it together. I really hope Zo Carter can stay healthy, I was expecting BIG things from him in 2020 before the injury Honestly, I think "make or break year" is generous. All we've seen from him is a guy who's soft against the run and little else other than injuries. In Texas they call a guy like him "all saddle and no horse." I wish him well but the clock is more than ticking loudly. It may be over for him.

Looks like he plays angry. I like that

Really ? I liked him, thought he would be penciled in as a starter as a sam LBer. Reese piece and can't stay on the field. Only 2 Georgia LBs allowed. Carter is the odd man out with Tae and Azeez.

FWIW Ojulari was selected right where he should have been Early to mid 2nd... This entire edge class went where they were supposed to.. And there wasn't a big drop off between Ojulari and E Smith probably in grades ..
Would not be surprised if Smith actually developed and Ojulari has 4 years of meh.. This is how random this edge class is Taking 2 shots BPA wasn't a bad idea at all this year

He has some other "flashier" film out there where he blows up some QBs, but I think film against a team of legit NFL talent speaks more highly to his actual level of play. He brings it for sure and watching him stop a pulling guard dead in their tracks is impressive. I'm hearing echos of Tom Brady saying "it's like throwing through a forest out there". Azeez behind our DL with this secondary behind him and Graham scheming is going to be very good I think.

He has difficulty in a three or four point stance, against bigger O lineman. Rather see him in a upright stance, where he can see the play and react.

In one interview DG specifically states that drafting and/or acquiring LBs is the one of the more difficult jobs because its not a plug and play type position. They have to find players that "fit" what the coaches want them to do.
The Giants have good competition at that spot. Carter has to remain healthy and fit the sheme and thats just one example.

Eeeesh that list not striking fear in any o-line unit or QB from a pressure perspective. Plenty of depth but the quality is questionable. Shame about Carter getting hurt. He was by far their best edge player last year and seemed to make the strides you’d expect from a third year player…..all the turd announcers kept crying about that game was Dak’s injury….I was screaming **** him the Giants just lost their best edge guy! Hopefully he comes back full strength but I’m skeptical of that. People really do overlook how well he played. He had a great motor and was finally beating his assignments regularly! He was getting real good against the run too! And I'm someone who thought the guy might not pan out. He was terrible his first two seasons. Couldn't shed a block for shit

It's an interesting unit, way more questions than answers there and they wont have the safety nets of Fackrell and Golden there if it all blows up.
I'm personally hoping that Carter bounces back this season. He looked extremely good in the pre-season and played well in the first two games before going down to injury.
The team is basically banking on one of these young guys taking a big step next year.

Other fans see it differently and are still waiting for him to become good since it's been stated by some fans that years are required for players to become useful enough.. If he's cut then the laugh is on them for not seeing it..

LOL Must admit I don't recall how he played before getting injured but that usually means he wasn't making any plays.. I wish I saved those bad few games to see what I missed..

Carter's legend grew after he beat up on Thomas in preseason last year. His production never came close to how people talk about him on this board. He got hurt last year early, but wasn't exactly changing games for us on defense. In terms of pure pass rushing, I think Coughlin is already better, but he's still has a leg up on Xman, so he'll probably just make the team.

Good point about Xman who is also an injury waiting to happen so he might be the one cut 1st..
If those legendary battles against Thomas had fans thinking he was improving then there isn't really anything to discuss with them..

Most of the news came out of training camp and the inter-squad scrimmages. When they were doing the inter-squad scrimmages there were reports of him dominating. And in his first couple of games he did play well, made a couple of TFLs and a sack. I still maintain that he is more of an ILB guy and would do better there, but I do hope that he emerges for them this year.

Man you guys messed me up with the necro bump, I almost replied to my own post lol.
So who does everyone think will win the starting jobs on the outside? I'm going with Ojulari and Carter. Carter has been an injury issue constantly but I think his skills are high enough that he can take this starting gig. How that plays out for the season? Anyone's guess. I think Ximines and Odenighbo will get lots of snaps as rotational/pass rush players. Coughlin I think will complete his transition to the MLB position that he started to do last year.

Not Ryan Anderson.. It's too early to even think of this for me.. I have to see if the injured players are good to go and haven't lost a step while I have no idea about some of the 2nd tier FA that were brought in.. Don't get me wrong, trying to predict this is very difficult with the little bit of knowledge we have right now. That is part of the fun. Once the first preseason game is played we will see who is most likely to be the starter, making this prediction not as fun. IMO anyway.

Man Carter had some really good tape before he got hurt, he really learned how to set up his pass rush moves. Im surprised everyone is so down on him, his tape looked pretty good just couldn't stay healthy
it remains to be seen if he can maintain health, lets see

He had a good game or maybe two but neither was enough to push the needle into thinking they don't need more. Then he disappeared for a game or two then got injured which is a pretty serious one.. I mean where are all the articles this year claiming how great he is against this Giants oline?? lol
