What are your thoughts on Mathias Kiwanuka & his career with the N.Y. Giants?

He was a great complimentary piece with Tuck, Umenuera., and Strahan, but not enough of a force on his own. Loved him in his role, but he could never step out of it.

Once they moved him to LB, his career was doomed. The guys claim to fame is that QB's are now considered down when a lineman wraps them up. I will always remember the play where he had a sack and like a gentleman, didn't lay the QB out and the ref didn't blow the whistle. And the QB runs off into the sunset
If he played meaner, he would have been a beast

Unfortunately, the biggest most memorable play in his career, in my eyes, was letting go of Vince Young.
He had a decent career, but not really a great one. As just stated, complementary peice because they tried to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Good man, great team guy, average player. I agree with Gee that the position switching was not beneficial to his overall career. He did it without a beef, for the good of the team, and certainly has my utmost respect.

What are your thoughts on Mathias Kiwanuka & his career with the N.Y. Giants? they bever knew where to quite put him for some reason. Injuries too played a part in establishing himself. A great team guy though

In fact I think the league was "cracking down" to pretend they actually really care whether a player gets injured In a contact sport Definitely one of the biggest follies of all time regardless lol

It's.funny, this past week I've been watching old games on YouTube from that era. Specifically 2006-2007.
I think people forget just how good Kiwi looked from 2006-2009. I think some fans focus on the player he was from 2012-2014, and the titans debacle.
But he was a truly great rotational piece. And I do believe if he went to another team with less depth he would've grown into one of the top Defensive ends in the league (for at least a few seasons).
Prior to the titans debacle fans were stoked with his play! I know I was, he pretty much hit the ground running. A VERY solid contributor immediately
I think injuries affected his development a lot too. It always seemed that right as he was hitting this big momentous stride in progression, he would get injured. Both 2007 and 2010 are examples.
In fact, after 2008 and 2009, many giants fans thought he was a better DE than Osi!
Remember when Osi came back from being out all of 08? Kiwi ended up becoming starter sometime during the 2nd half of that season. Many giants fans agreed with the move. And it WAS the right move because Osi was never the same DE after his 08 injury. Pre-injury Osi was dominant against both the run and the pass. Post-injury he kinda became a one-trick pony. A VERY good one trick pony though. Many fans thought Osi was dogging it in 09

Wow Red this was a perfect description. I know we moved him around so much maybe he would have progressed better if he just stayed at one position. I liked him and rooted for him so much. I was hoping he would become Jesse Armstead, he reminded me of him physically. We certainly could use him at the weakside LBer spot on this defense. He might do better as a 3-4 edge guy than in a 4-3 defense. Kiwanuka and Ojulari might be an impressive combo for us in 2021. Kiwanuka was one of our blue collar tough guys on those teams that were filled with blue collar tough guys. Kiwi, Strahan, Jacobs, Tuck, Snee, O'Hara, Pierce, and a dozen others that I left out. He deserves to be applauded and remembered. He was one of our guys that came to play every week.

He was the consummate pro. When the Giants moved him to Sam linebacker, he didn’t say a peep. Just went about his business, and played well. I remember him playing great against the Patriots in 2011 regular season game at Foxborough. He had 12 tackles and a sack. He was a big part of our victory that day. He put the team above personal accomplishments, give me 53 guys like that any day of the week.

I would have to go back and watch his film but he was very solid at the start. Fans were upset over him being re-signed. He benefitted from having just won a superbowl and other DE's leaving. It was a desperation signing that helped doom Reese
