Shep is changing his number from #87 to #3 to honor his late father. His father was a WR for 3 years at Oklahoma. His father played briefly in the NFL for a number of teams.
I always admire respect. Respect on top of love is the highest compliment one can receive.

I remember his father when he was on the Cowboys. It was like somewhere around the time Landry got canned. Gives you an idea what that kind of team was if anyone is too young to remember.

Good for him. Honoring his father. That’s a nice story.
It’s going to be weird seeing LBs wearing single digits. I know it’s commonplace in college but I think it’s strange. QBs aren’t going to be able to use numbers to help read defenses as much. It will be different for sure.

I dislike it as well. Always loved seeing LBs with 50's numbers, felt like a tough guys number. LT, Carson, Lewis, Singletary, Urlacher, Butkus, Lambert and even guys from the last decade Patrick Willis, Bobby Wagner, Keuchly, etc. But like you said, we'll get used to it eventually.

Its total BS IMO. There is no reason for it except to allow the game to further get diluted with NCAA crap.

they should un-retire numbers and then just "honor" the player and his number.
Why discontinue so many numbers? Really makes no sense.

GL the Giants have so many numbers retired were lucky we can fill out a roster.

I don’t even have to say which one. The Giants have been since 1925. They have 4 championships (Pre-Superbowl era) and 4 superbowl wins. There have been serveral NY Giants that have been MVP's (That includes LT) and over a dozen players have been inducted into the HOF. Long story short, there are several players that deserve honor so it's really do it or don't do it situation...
