Hey folks. I hope all is well. Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong spot. Someone set me straight if so.
It's been a long time since I've driven down to Metlife to see a game live. I'm thinking of going to a live game this season. I am trying to get a sense of what the traffic situation is leaving the stadium on game day. My memory suggests that it's a shit show. Is that still the case? I'm debating if I want to drive back to Rhode Island as soon as the game is over or if I should just crash with my friends (in Brooklyn). So I'm wondering a couple of things...
If I jump in the car as soon as the game is over, what is a realistic time element for me to be out of the stadium and back on I-95?
What's the best bet for public transportation between Met Life and Brooklyn?
Thanks in advance.

I know ticket holders that leave early most games to avoid it.

Just hang out and tailgate after the game for an hour or so and let everyone else sit in the traffic. You'll probably get back at the same time regardless.

Well, the traffic hasn't been the only reason to leave early the past few years...🤨 You can also take the train, not sure how long that takes after the game. A good idea is to chill after the game for a post game tail gate let the traffic subside. I would stay at your friends in Brooklyn and get a fresh start the next day.
The traffic is only bad getting out of the parking lot. Once you are on the roads its not too bad.
As another member said the only way to avoid the traffic getting out is to leave the game mid 4th quarter.

The few games I go to, I prefer to stay the length (I had a co-worker that had season tickets, used to give me the pre season games, I would leave those early, lol)

Absolutely the most unpleasant part of going to game for ever. I travel from away also for years now. The best is to stay in lot for an hour or more and stay in hotel in Jersey for the night. Getting back to 95 and over is a disaster Sunday evening. Leave after rush AM Monday, and much less stress!

Too warm first of all and then limited starters etc. I like cold weather football.

Post game tail gate like others have said for an hour to an hour and a half. Let it die down unless you have a burning desire to average 5 miles an hour on the road.

Too warm first of all and then limited starters etc. I like cold weather football. Ha, I had the worst preseason football experience of my life. My buddy calls me up while I was at work and tells me he has an extra ticket to a preseason game. I'm like ehhh, preseason? I'm not really that interested. He convinces me to come and we will have a few beers and watch some prospects. It was originally slated as 3 people going (my buddy and his brother). Well, his wife her friend (My friends brothers wife) decided that they want to come at the last minute so he comes to pick me up and I jump in a WTF did I agree to situation. My friend and his wife are now having some quarrel and I actually tell them that I have no problems just taking the train home from the City (cutting through to avoid some traffic). They convince me that they are done but now I'm at the stadium and I hear from my friends brother that these women thought that this was supposed to be some double date and the woman start acting upset. Damn wierdos, a Giants preseason game with some drunken over weight guys cursing, eating hot dogs and getting sloppy drunk behind us. I threw out some random comments about how romantic the situation was, completely throwing gas on the fire. Had a few beers and intentionally made the scenario 10x worse for them then it had to be. After the initial awkwardness of the situation, it became quite funny but I will never go to another preseason game in my life....

Now it's one of the local Hiltons for the night!

1PM game, you can still get home in time for a later than usual dinner. 4PM game, you get home late and your wife is mad b/c dinner is cold. SNF, MNF, TNF game, the door is locked and all your stuff is littered on the lawn b/c your wife is pissed you came home at 2AM.

Just hang out and tailgate after the game for an hour or so and let everyone else sit in the traffic. You'll probably get back at the same time regardless. Couldn't agree more. To me, tailgating is the best part of going to games. If you're planning a trip, I'd recommend a 1pmEST game. Get there early to hang out, toss the football, and have some breakfast (too bad y'all don't have Bojangle's up north....greatest tailgating food of all time). Come back out after the game and light up the grill. If you bring a TV, you can hang out and watch the 4pm games. Tailgating for games is one of my favorite things in life. It puts everyone in a great mood.

If you're set on going home after the game, park as close to the exit as you can and point your car in the direction of the exit.

I know it's easier to get fast food but I love the smell of those BBG's cooking.

Your best bet is walking back to Brooklyn. Those late night games are a killer, and God help you if the Giants lose. Now, you have 75,000 pissed off fans all leaving at once. That’s why the best seat at a game is in your living room. Food doesn’t taste like it was thrown in a microwave, and you don’t have to take out a second mortgage to buy beer.

That's a long day though. Drive from RI, tailgate, go to game and drive back? Isn't like 5 hours each way? Probably better if you stay over your friends house. Sleep in BK get up around 8AM, get ready, have breakfast and hit the road around 10AM. Avoid the morning commute.

Over the course of about 12 years our tailgate grew from 4 lawn chairs and a cooler to multiple tents, a generator, a couple TV's, all sorts of games, and tons of food. It's the absolute best.

Breakfast biscuits all day long and good fried chicken/sides, etc. If it were up to me, and if BBQ was on the menu, I'd much rather smoke it myself. However, at NC State games which is where I do my tailgating, there's a time restriction in terms of how early you can get to the parking lot. This hasn't always been the case, but about 20 years ago there was a shooting at one of the tailgates and the cracked down on folks being out there from dawn to dusk. In a perfect world, I'd get out there with a good buddy or two while it's still dark out and get the smoker going.

I actually park behind the race track the last lot and park right at the exit. If you don't mind a long walk that works the best there is a gate way back there a group of us always got there early and paced right at it so when you start your car your at the gate you have to weasel your way through but once your out it opens up a little and gets easier, RT 17 could be iffy I usually hit the garden state I believe you can take 80 to 95 or into the city not sure better check a map lol to GPS.

Yep, that is the best game plan unless you plan on leaving 10 minutes before the end of the game, which defeats the reason for being there. My tickets were great and gave me terrific parking plus the entry to the lots was swift and easy. The exiting was horrendous and I found no good work around during my time as a season ticket holder.

If you're set on going home after the game, park as close to the exit as you can and point your car in the direction of the exit. And run to your car because 5 minutes can add an hour to your departure time, no joke.
