In most ligament repairs require a tendon grafted onto the rupture to repair the tare. The Bear ( Bridge enhanced ACL Repair) places a sponge between. ( scaffolding for the tissue to grow upon) the severed ends to allow the ligament to grow back together. The sponge dissolves with in 6 weeks leaving a regrown ligament .The preliminary study shows the regrown ligament is as strong as the original with less recovery time than a graph. clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03776162

I love this. And the hell with football if this works it can help millions. This shouldn't only be limited to ACL's.
Do you know if this operation is being used at a high percentage of damaged knees ? I am so glad you posted this.

Interesting stuff. It's amazing the advances in medicine - those RDNA vaccines are a prime example of it.

Interesting.
My brother tore his ACL young as a teenager and they grafted a piece of hamstring muscle from his other leg to replace the ligament. The surgeon was pretty clear that the grafted hamstring was much stronger than the original ACL. But maybe this new way is better for adults…or the reduced recovery time makes it worth it. Pretty cool.
