How long have you been a Giants fan for? We are never that super consistent, win all the time team. We went 6-9 in 1987 after winning the SB the year before. We went 8-8 and then 6-10 after winning in 1990.
We are the team that is mediocre but once a decade (every decade since the 1980s) we find greatest momentarily and smash the crap out of our opponents. The teens are over and the new decade is here so get ready because at some point in the next 10 years we will win the big one, the other 9 years are likely to be a mix of straight misery and brutal disappointment.
That's life as a Giants fan.
6-9 was a strike year with our strike team going 0-3. That season was a mess for the NFL.
We were a consistent winner from 84 to 90. Then came a bad coaching situation. Quite honestly, Bill sabotaged the team.
But we were 9-7, 10-6, 14-2, 6-6, 10-6, 12-4, 13-3. That's a heck of a run.
Bill fk'd us! He certainly did. That was a kick in the balls for sure. BB would have probably been the coach.

the 80’s were inconsistent? Really? B/c of a strike year? LMAO yes.
Lets see our win totals for the decade. 4, 9, 4, 3, 9, 10, 14, 6, 10, 12. Strike year is your excuse? They were on strike for weeks 4-6. They also didn't make the playoffs the next season. We made the playoffs 5 times in the 80s. And in our 100 year history that was the best we ever were for a stretch.

Let's give you that 6 year stretch. That's the best one in our history...and it happened 1 time. This is not a franchise that finds long periods of success. Once out of 100 years doesn't count.

It was a totally screwed up season for the NFL. You can't call that as some kind of "inconsistency". We were 74-34 with 2 SB wins.
Come on. You are grasping at straws here.

A winning season @ 9-8 wouldn't be a success for you? I can't accept mediocrity. 8 - 8 is not a winning season 9-8 is just barely a winning season. 10-7 has some teeth. It's a winning season. The first in 5 years. I think everyone here would ecstatic. Especially if it means the postseason.

I know you like to keep the bar low Mike but let's raise our standards a bit more than that.
I would definitely NOT be happy at all. I expect 11 wins this year.

Wow, what a bar. 11 wins instead of 9? If the Giants make the playoffs at 9-8, I guarantee even you will not be complaining,

now let';s think about that.
And yes....11-6 is very different that 9-8 in the NFL.

Silly Moorehead, I thought it was obvious I was playing with you there. Why don't you answer the second part. I suppose it depends when you ask me. If you asked me if I'd be happy with 9-7 when we were 7-7, on our 1 yard line, third and 10, down by 7 to the Jets?.....Then the answer is yes.
If you asked me starting that season, coming off 10-6 with all the promise we had going into 2011?.....The answer would probably be no.
So going into this season, my answer is no. We have Barkley back, we brought in Jackson which gives us maybe the best secondary in football....added to an already good defense. We added Gallaway and Toney to our WR corps. I expect a very good season. Now.....If you ask me when we're 6-8 during the season?....then my answer would be different.

Im hoping for a return to relevance, its time, at least a winning season. Its tough living out of ny state and wearing giants gear as much as I do, and enduring the slings and arrows of outrageous losing. I take a loooooot of heat from people over the years, and there were only so many times you can pull the patriots sb games card, its ancient history for quite a few years already in sports terms. Its hard to ^&%$# talk back when you have nothing.
its 2021, a decade away from good times.
its time to turn this around, there so much to be optimistic about, but so much to be leery of too.
a lot of this really does rest on the shoulders of danny dimes. but i think theres gonna be an awakening of players people might not expect too...

That's fair. Ultimately, if 9-8 gets us into the playoffs, nobody will complain. If 9-8 is the result of a late-season loss in an elimination game that we had a chance to win, then not so much. But asking to nearly double the win total may not be as automatic as we think. And having a winning season and just being relevant again would be very nice whatever the outcome.

Ok cool, let's say you are right and I'm wrong I don't care. That's not my point. Even if for that 5-6 year span we were super consistent and amazing it's still a very rare thing in our franchises long history. There are only a few teams (Packers, Colts, Pats, Steelers, Cowboys, Saints?) that have long stretches of dominance. We are not one of them. We are a team that has long stretches of crap, then a burst of goodness that lets us down in the playoffs, then a once-a-decade burst of dominance (or luck depending who you ask) that gets us over the hump.
My point is that if someone is expecting us to suddenly go on a decade long dominance streak they are probably going to be disappointed. Sure I will route for it to happen. Hell I'm the most positive mother ****er on these boards so many I even think Judge, Danny Dimes and RB drafted #2 can get us there; but I'm not expecting it. That's my point.

I’m sure you cheered for the uniform without knowing the difference between Scabs and Giants. I honestly don't even remember that. I will say this though, if you replaced each player on this team with random people from this message board I would route just as hard for them. I rooted for Dave Brown as much as I root for Jones. I rooted for Danny Kannel just as hard (probably harder because of my age at the time) than I rooted for Eli.
I don't root harder for players I know or players that are good. I root for my GIANTS to win each and every week no matter who is in the uniform.

I think we all root for all Giant player and even personnel. Just because I’m skeptical of Jones and hated the pick doesn’t mean I want him to fail just so I can somehow allegedly feel better about myself and say “I told ya so”. That would be crazy and anyone who thinks like that isn’t a true fan IMO. Now it doesn’t mean that if that’s what happens then I won’t say “told ya so” just as if he tears it up this year and next (I need to see consistency) then I’ll gladly admit I was wrong. The Giants winning isn’t even in the same realm of me being right about a player or personnel decision. I’m also extremely critical of DG and don’t like his smug arrogance but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to the Giants to kick ass just so he gets fired. If he/they prove me wrong for a couple of years then I’ll be more than happy to say I was wrong and he did a great job at building the team. The only exception when I wouldn’t want a Giants player to do well is if it was some literal piece of trash like Greg Hardy, maybe even Elliott, but I don’t think the Giants would even stoop that low although they have made a few curious decisions with player character as of late. I can’t and won’t cheer for bullies, women beaters, etc no matter what uniform they wear.

That was the best run in my life time and Bill was an outstanding HC in most respects. That said he absolutely sabotaged that team and there is only one person who matters in Bill's world.........Bill. I have no use for that piece of shit, despite his considerable coaching talents.
