giantswire.usatoday.com/2021/07/27/new-york-giants-joe-judge-explains-why-hes-confident-offensive-line/ “I’ve confidence in the way we work and ultimately, that’s what’s going to help us improve,” Judge told Giants Country. “In terms of how our players work, I’m confident in their commitment to the process and what they’re going to do to improve.”
“As we went through the process of talking to offensive line coaches, it was the first extended exposure I have to Flats, who just came by and decided to talk ball one day,” Judge said. “Basically a two-hour window turned into about an eight-hour conversation and, I remember just saying to (assistant head coach and defensive coordinator) Patrick Graham, ‘Wow, this guy could really help us.’
“He’s just brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. And, and he’s a great teacher — Rob and Ben Wilkerson and Pat, they do a tremendous job working out with the offensive line and really breaking up the group. Everyone is getting coached all the time, which is really the way I want it.”
Judge admits that the offensive line — and the whole team, really — have a long way to go and are far from a finished product, but he remains confident they’ll get there even if so few others do. I hope his confidence is real.

Just read this article this morning. The emphasis he has put on teaching, especially the OL, is what gives me confidence. It's been a long time since someone came here and got better. These guys can all run block good right now so if we can fix their pass blocking at all we should see major improvements.
"Everyone is getting coached all the time". That one on one coaching is what will make this OL much better.

I was wrong about Graham so I'm willing to give these OL guys a shot to surprise me. Too much riding on this OL for it to fail.

The coaching upgrades on the OL are tremendous. I think a lot of the problems early last year were due to issues with Colombo and I think it’s pretty significant that he's been out of work since his firing last year.

"The addition of Flaherty wasn’t initially planned, but after a short conversation turned into an eight-hour football-a-thon, Judge knew he had to onboard Flats as soon as possible.

Flaherty was tossed b/c of coach killer Flowers. Good to have him back. He was a big part of fusing our Oline into a Top 3 line.

Ironically, I believe Flowers had his best season under Flaherty. I know I and many others on this board were annoyed when Flaherty left.

If they have a good year it will because they beat some good teams Denver is as good as it gets on defense to start.

Not good for a young group .

That's what years of an owner pretending to be a football guy instead of just beimg the guy who writes the checks, gets you. This mess we've been in falls squarely on Mara. Everyone else is secondary. A product of his ineptness.

Personally, if I never hear the phrase "The NY Giants Offensive line" ever again unless it's to say how great they are, I will die happy.

Seeing is believing. Being confident doesn’t create holes and protect your quarterback on Sundays. Skill, cohesiveness, and staying healthy is what makes a good line. Remember, this line as a group is extremely young. Our tackles are still wet behind the ears.

His musical chairs routine, and this being his third offensive line coach in under a year leaves me with more questions than answers. Pat Flaherty is a good start, but will Judge stick his nose in their business again if the line doesn’t play up to his expectations?

IMO : It depends on how the O-line progresses in the pre-season games to see how hands on or off the HC will be.

Ultimately it's the coaches and GM responsible for position changes, but the whole world knew Flowers was not an OT. I blame Will Beatty

I would feel more confident if I could hear one coach say "I see what these guys have been doing wrong and now its all been corrected" I think they do say that, just not in those words. Especially for a guy just coming in it would throw "shade" at other people which coaches tend to try and avoid. I agree though, I hope they see the mistakes that were made and are working to fix them.

Flowers 2020 PFF grade - 65.9 2019 64.1 2018 65.4 Will Hernandez 2020 PFF grade - 58.1 2019 58.4 2018 67.9 Ereck Flowers is better than Will Hernandez yet I don't hear the same unbridled hatred (no reference to you kind sir) for a player that wasn't even drafted to play LT. Because of the failings of the GM, they never thought to move flowers and upgrade the tackle spot. You can't put that on Flowers. He was given a bum deal from the start. EVERYONE knew he was a guard.

How was he giving a bum deal? He was paid millions of dollars to fall on his face every Sunday. On top of that, he had issues with two highly respected offensive line coaches. Ereck was a pansy here, and worked his way up to a daffodil. Also, being better than Hernandez is no accomplishment.
