We're going to have to pick up a player or two once cuts begin. In one week I went from being content with our OL depth to being completely concerned with it.

The GM said he would fix the OL the day he was hired, it has been 4 years later. Really only one single person to blame if this OL fails this year. assigning blame doesnt make the OL better. Its no secret the GMs are responsible for the roster and are held accountable on all 32 teams. |

This isn't looking so good and I'm still shocked they didn't draft any.. 4 Years should be enough time so there are no more excuses including injuries.. |

Getty has a different way to try and get this done. He did find Gates as an undrafted player so hooray for that.. |

I would not even mind using a 6 or 7th round pick every year. They are expendable picks anyway. At some point you are going to get a hit on a a OG or OT that will work their way into the 5. IMO the O-line is never anything but a work in progress. |

The OL makes up nearly 1/2 of the starting offense and are typically out there for all of the snaps. So we should constantly be bringing in players into that unit. |

The OL did improve the last half of last year so if we could take another step up from the 2nd half last year this year this OL might look pretty good or at least mediocre. We tended to believe them cause they have been football coaches or scouts their whole lives.
I think most of us are still in show me attitude. But with each injury are realization of how thin we are becomes more evident. If this line can produce with the other RB's in pre season the more hopeful and confident everybody becomes when Saquon returns full go.
This OL needs to show at least flashes during a drive or 2 at least in the final 2 pre season games. Both in pass protection and run blocking.
I would think we pick up a vet or 2 at the final cut.

Well, the last year he played with us he didn't use his arms anyway...so nothing really changed.

Trades are rare at this point in the pre-season but until we have 2 more guys on this roster who could fill in at Hernandez' level we are VERY vulnerable as a team. |

And I agree losing Zeitler wasn't great, but he wasn't moving the needle for the unit as a whole either. Again, I think we are in agreement that they should have done more to add competition. But, I do see why the coaches had confidence in the young guys that they are planning on starting out there. Hardly a huge leap to expect significant improvement from rookies that now have a year of experience and will have an actual full offseason and expecting that Gates will continue to improve after having to learn the center position with no offseason last year. There are reasons to have optimism for the unit with the young players. There is also reason to have concern with how much they are having to rely on these young players. |

All I have is optimism for this year's O-line group......and health with any group is a concern. Sure you can knock DG for not drafting an OL this year but to say he hasn't made moves to improve the depth or group overall is patently false.....they've made a shitload of moves on the OL.....not all if any are going to work out.
What's absolutely hysterical are the posters/fans/writers that are surprised by the ups and downs of Thomas, Lemieux, Peart and Gates last season......that's 3 rookies and a first year center.....essentially all first year players who rolled into the season without training camp or the pre-season AND their O-line coach got canned midseason......yet they're getting crushed for their lack of consistency. ****ing comical.......
