not looking at the defense until tomorrow because I already have heartburn.
So offense only ... here are some of the notes I wrote down
The offensive line looked very good ... very good indeed ... I have no complaints for probably the first time in many years. I saw no real blaring techniques issues and everyone really seemed to be working as a unit. Very tough violent game for them. They were playing against a premier D line and did just fine
Jones ... very good as well ... better than very good probably ... wonderful game He looked in charge and made great decisions. Executed some designed runs beautifully
Shepard straight up looks like Victor Cruz ... he has transformed as a player. He looks quick, hungry, and he plays violent ... I love it Sterling is out to prove something.
Rudolph...no complaints ... he looks pretty good. Smart player who is finding his way in the scheme ... he will be just fine ... especially when Engram comes back.
Slayton played well .... minus the obvious this kid is a player ... he looks faster than he ever has to my eyes. Runs very good routes and gets open. His routes are often long developers. double moves etc
Golladay could not get open. He looked to have run some incorrect routes a few times . He has trouble with separation Really struggled to find room on Thursday He was clearly Jones first read quite a few times and just couldn't get it done.
Barkley did not look good at all He is playing with zero patience He seems to be losing his footing super easily ... almost like his head is getting ahead of his feet. He looks indecisive and is playing with poor vision. The coaches definitely adjusted the scheme and installed more pulling plays ... more traps. There were a ton of times where the blocking was just fine and he just couldn't get there in time. He is playing hesitant still ... I'm sure it will work out. He really is struggling with vision right now. There were plays where it almost looks like he is taking the handoff with his eyes closed. very odd
Anyway ... those were my notes taken while breaking the film down for whatever it's worth

Thanks and stick around as long as you can without getting frustrated lol. Back to the game, I love how Andrew Thomas has looked the first two games after the brutal Patriots game. The last drive for us on offense when we played for the FG, I REALLY wish that if they were set on running it, why not give DJ the option play? It worked all not, maybe he pulls one and gets us to a reasonable 3rd if they were so set on running. Really wish they weren't timid there. I do not like Judges conservative nature.

Rudolph had a couple big catches and figures to be a factor in the offense. Considering he's been out the entire off season and is just getting his feet wet, his overall contribution so far is impressive. The upside of this offense is exciting considering how many players are still working their way back.

Those were 2 games, given the schedule, that we really needed to win. Those were winnable games, given how our defense is playing and the QBs we played. I know you agree.

Thanks YA, I agree about Shepherd. He has developed his game and looks better than ever.
With Golladay, I like the way he fights for 50/50 balls. We haven't had many like that but the separation thing is spot on.
Jones threw some deep outs with pace, precision and under duress. That is an advanced skill.
He took a nice step forward on Sunday imo.

I don't agree we needed to win. I didn't feel that confident about either one. I feel confident about the next one, for what that's worth.

Good to hear about the oline. Barkley does not look great.
As anyone knows when you get out of shape…trying to do things you previously did doesn’t work well. You are always losing footing and off balance. It will take some weeks for him.

Not sure what to think about Barkley.
It seems as though he almost believes the criticism of his being an “east west” back and is trying to prove otherwise and taking coaching of hitting holes the wrong way. He doesn’t seem to understand how. Hitting the hole and running North South doesn’t mean run 100mph into the back of the OL.
Dude needs to put on the Le’veon Bell film and watch how sitting back and watching for the holes and creases to form is what gets you a way through. He has the burst and strength to be patient and wait for things to present themselves.

I love guys that bust their butts off season to be better their next season. Engrem is one I will be watching to see if he improved his concentration and grip this past off season. If he had any pride at all, and smarts coming into his 5th year, he would have worked hard on improving. The line was much better than against Denver... not as porous on passes, and worked better together to develop some nice holes that SB totally missed. A definite work in progress, but barring more injuries they'll only continue to get better each week. Heart goes out to Gates. We'll miss him.

Very good breakdown. Rudolph seems to be what an old reliable TE is. Barkley is still a ways off. Part of getting in football shape is mental and having that vision and feel for the game. He has been out a long time and it'll take a bit to get that back. Hopefully he gets it back this year in time to help us.
Golladay seems to be doing routes he didn't do in the past. Not that he can't do them, just that he has been used as a deep threat most of his career and is now running curl routes. He has never been the type to get lots of separation, but he uses his size to great advantage. He is one of the top contested catch WRs because he isn't fast enough to get separation but is big enough to beat out the CB. I hope we keep feeding him the ball.
Shep looks amazing. What's the official count? 16 catches on 18 targets or something like that. Setting an incredible pace and at times it looks like him and Jones are just like "oh well we will win this ourselves".
How does Toney look out there? I know he wasn't targeted but he was out there for 19 snaps this week. I noticed on the outside a lot. Is he running good routes at least?

This is exactly what I'm talking about It happened more than a few times on Thursday He doesn't look right I am not even close to you fellows analysis.. and even I saw this on a couple of occasions! There was a similar run up the middle where he appeared to be almost falling forward horizontally when a defender to his right reached out as he went down. He seemed to fall into the 'tackle' because it looked simultaneous. Had us shaking our heads in puzzlement.
