In the context of a shitty and thin OL (sorry for my repetitive theme) ......why are we drafting a guy in the first round who isn't ready to have immediate impact? If it's Slayton standing in his way, we wasted that #1.Nothing against Slayton, just saying with a #1, you should expect a starter. Dexter Lawrence wasn't a starter his first two years. I wouldn't call him a wasted pick. There are quite a few first round picks from this year's draft who aren't starting yet.

Slayton is our lone deep threat to this point. He's the only one who seems to be able to legitimately get open down the field, and he's often wide open. Despite his drops, he's a weapon. Not much of a threat if he has issues catching the ball. Getting open is nice and all, but it doesn't mean anything if he can't bring in the ball

Toney runs a 4.39…same as Slaton. They keep talking about gadgets and underneath for this guy. Just send him on some flys and posts. Get him involved. Yeah I don't get why they're assuming he's only a Cordarelle Patterson type of WR. They could mold him into a very good WR but seem to be narrowly defining his skill set (thus far). Which is dumb coaching if it persists. I understand giving him baby steps because he's hardly practiced though. He's there number 1 pick, he better be used as more than just a gadget player.

Unless, there is another Dexter Lawrence in the league. Ours, has been a day 1 starter. And has 32 starts under his belt. My mistake. Could’ve sworn he was coming off the bench instead of going to it. Still not a full time nose, which should change this year.

He’s too good to be this bad. I’ve seen him dominate good offensive lineman many times. For whatever reason, he looks like just another guy right now.

And that tackle was an assist, basically he was in the vicinity of the hit. Again, he’s too good to put up those lazy numbers.

I don't hate on Toney, and really try to keep my glass half full, but the reports are that he tweaked his ankle and was limited in practice. It doesn't bode well for a rookie that missed a lot of pre-season with various issues. I'm still keeping my patience, and hope that even if he doesn't play much this week with a gimpy ankle, he comes back and starts to contribute going forward. I think if they can keep Shep Golladay and Engram and Barkely on the field they will be fine until they get Toney going those four not even counting Rudolph Salyton and Smith can be a formidable crew.

After around pick 12, in good draft 15 the first round talent is usually gone. This is a fact if you are drafting later in the round most drafts you are getting a 2nd row or round talent there. That said you should expect to get production from that draft slot we all expect it from our first 3 rounds now if Toney gets healthy and has a big rookie year from game 5 on we will all forget about the rough start.

They are easing Toney into a role the way you would introduce a rookie into a room full of established veterans, who until that point, had done nothing to lose their job. At the same time I believe Slayton is slowly losing his grip on his role with his start after having a year in the system. I see an uptick in Toney's usage coming soon and what better team to debut against. Slay's size down-field coupled with his contested catch skills has him with one nostril above water with #4WR being his resting spot. Managing 53 egos and personalities is an aspect of the game that goes unnoticed.... well, at least until that espn notification comes thru The problem with that is we don't have a group of established veteran WR besides Golloday and Shepard.
If we don't see an uptick in Toney's usage it would only mean he's hurt or the Giants made a huge mistake taking him.

I look at it differently with Slayton . So far this year he has a catch % of 46.2. Jones' completion precentage is 63.8 Last year Slayton's was 52.1. Jones' was 62.5 DJ's is going up Slayton's is going down. Any DC can cover Slayton with a Safety. There is a good probibility it will be an incomplete. If Slayton was 60% (league average) Jones would be close to 70%. In the top 5% in the league. Slayton is not showing signs of improving . We can not continually have a WR on the field. Who's best game is 50% He has got to get better. At this point I am not confident he can. He has 2 issues that no reciever should have . He cannot run a crisp route consistently. When he does he drops the ball. That is what his stats show. He is what he is. a 5 round comp pick (6th round pick) Toney should be able to take his job with ease when he get up to speed.

Who do you cover with your skilled DBs ,the guy that has continually has proven he cannot catch the ball, or won't be where the ball is thrown. Or do you cover the guys that can? The only thing Slayton has proved he is a threat to so far in his career is; he is a threat to keeping a drive going.

If Toney was performing to the level of Pitts, Chase, Smith, and other receivers drafted after him he would be starting. He's not, and based on the comments from the coaches - Judge/Garrett I don't think Toney is even close.
Say what you want about Slayton - he is a home run threat. Not the best receiver but he can stretch the field.

Never thought that we should have to do that here. My point had context which the original "fact challenged" reply ignored. The context was our OL which continues to be marginal and thin. WR, especially after signing a FA for big money, was not anywhere near the priority of our OL.

He has had only 3 games in the past 18 with at least 6 targets where he has been over a 50% reception percentage. Ya know who else was home run threat Tavarres King ( another 5th round pick). King and Slayton are mirror images statistically. www.pro-football-reference.com/players/K/KingTa00.htmwww.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SlayDa01.htm There are more Receivers than Toney that can take his job with a snap of a the fingers if he does not get his catch percentage higher.

Said this about Slayton back in March I have been showing his stats on this board for over 6 months. When the QB has a completion percentage 10+ points higher than a receiver. What does that say about the WR? That ain't on the QB. Some on the board still think he is something he isn't . We do not need a guy that can run fast in a straight line as our #3. We need a guy that can run a proper route.

Is it to put the D back on the field? Why not just put an Olympic gold medalist track runner as a wide out? Usain Bolt ran a 4:22 40

If you don't like the kid and prefer someone else, I get it. The whole point of my original post was his speed is something defenses have to account for, which is a fact. That's not an opinion. I won't be surprised if we see another 40+ yard catch/TD from Slayton today. And probably another drop.

As I said he is easily handed of to a safety because of that. You do not win with a WR on the field getting 1 third of targets with his % . I want to win . I want the best on the field. To me he isn't one of them.

Not much of a threat if he has issues catching the ball. Getting open is nice and all, but it doesn't mean anything if he can't bring in the ball Slayton caught a 40+ yard TD and almost had a 50+ yard TD. He's a weapon and defenses have to account for him. Dude also has a HARDCORE case of the dropsies. He's painfully inconsistent and can't be counted on to reel em in when needed

We can use what Toney showed today.
I have to ask why it took so long to get him involved?

I like what slayton can do, but man you can't be dropping the ball so much. Honestly, if Ross could stay healthy he'd probably be a better choice than slayton for that roll, and toney should definitely become a more consistent and better receiver as well. Slayton should start seeing less playing time as toney develops. I don't know something seems off about the whole toney situation. Couldn’t agree more with your Slayton comments. Ross and Toney contributing will push him down the bench.
