They are easing Toney into a role the way you would introduce a rookie into a room full of established veterans, who until that point, had done nothing to lose their job.
At the same time I believe Slayton is slowly losing his grip on his role with his start after having a year in the system.
I see an uptick in Toney's usage coming soon and what better team to debut against. Slay's size down-field coupled with his contested catch skills has him with one nostril above water with #4WR being his resting spot.
Managing 53 egos and personalities is an aspect of the game that goes unnoticed.... well, at least until that espn notification comes thru

Really…..in that case the Giants are easing me into the lineup too since we are both providing the same results.

Slayton is our lone deep threat to this point. He's the only one who seems to be able to legitimately get open down the field, and he's often wide open.
Despite his drops, he's a weapon.

Toney is a 4th receiver. He was never going to be much of a factor this year, no matter how his offseason went. I've been saying this since the day we drafted him. 20-30 catches tops.

I don't hate on Toney, and really try to keep my glass half full, but the reports are that he tweaked his ankle and was limited in practice. It doesn't bode well for a rookie that missed a lot of pre-season with various issues. I'm still keeping my patience, and hope that even if he doesn't play much this week with a gimpy ankle, he comes back and starts to contribute going forward.

Another board fortune teller .... ....except if he was in in from the beginning without the injuries and drama, he would he would be our dynamic receiver.... emoji

He'll be fine. He is elusive and can run through guys .when he gets up to speed with his route running . He will be hard to cover.

The homers and DG lovers are already stockpiling excuses for next year. This Toney bologne will just get added to the list.
I can hear it now “we had two starters on the O line hurt” “Barkley was still recovering” “Jones was just beginning to gel with the receivers” “Toney didn’t play half the season” “we have two first round picks next year” “it was all Garretts fault” “Graham regressed” “the talent is there, now it will all come together” “we just need an edge and RT”. It NEVER stops, just keep kicking the can of excuses down the road.

Toney runs a 4.39…same as Slaton. They keep talking about gadgets and underneath for this guy. Just send him on some flys and posts. Get him involved.

Yeah, our dynamic 4th receiver. 20-30 catches tops....you've been saying it.... since the beginning If Toney had no baggage and injuries, and played as he can from Florida when he arrived ....he would be have far more than 20 catches tops...I've been saying this since his high school days when I suggested to his coaches they allow him to start rapping ....

The Giants have two WRs….Shepard and Slayton…..the rest are backups or overpaid frauds.

So, it was you who put that stupid idea in his head. Instead of using a dog whistle, they should use Toneys music to train dogs.

In the context of a shitty and thin OL (sorry for my repetitive theme) ......why are we drafting a guy in the first round who isn't ready to have immediate impact?
If it's Slayton standing in his way, we wasted that #1. Nothing against Slayton, just saying with a #1, you should expect a starter.

Then, we have bigger issues than we know. Our best receiver has been our longest tenured Giant. It’s the only player Jones feels comfortable throwing too. When I think of a team that is battling it’s way to relevancy. You need all hands on deck, we aren’t good enough to take a wait and see approach.

IMO, you shouldn't have to ease your first round draft pick into the lineup if he is healthy. Why even draft him if you're not going to play him? He better be injured because it makes zero sense to have him riding pine if he is healthy.

Plax talked about a fellow starting wr asking him about routes during the Superbowl. If he's as physically talented as everyone says, put him in.

I like what slayton can do, but man you can't be dropping the ball so much. Honestly, if Ross could stay healthy he'd probably be a better choice than slayton for that roll, and toney should definitely become a more consistent and better receiver as well. Slayton should start seeing less playing time as toney develops.
I don't know something seems off about the whole toney situation.

Besides, not tripping over his feet walking up the the podium at the draft. The only news we have of him, is that of negative. Injuries, not reporting to voluntary camp, Covid, terrible song, missing cleat, more injuries, tweeting, not playing. You can write a children’s book with all the nonsense that has followed him since he signed his contact. It can all be forgotten with a solid performance on game day. However, he’s so far back from being part of the offensive scheme. That he needs a search party to find him.

We've passed on guys like slater and parsons for a guy who has not contributed and has looked like a bad pick.. Still plenty of time to change that, but red flags are all over the place. So basically, as of now, we traded this years first round pick for next years. That's all and until toney pans that, that's just what it is.

I wouldn't call him a wasted pick. There are quite a few first round picks from this year's draft who aren't starting yet.

Nah...you are not playing him because of not getting enough reps in camp and preseason games...losing front offices play money over talent.

Ours, has been a day 1 starter. And has 32 starts under his belt.
