www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32259410/inside-drive-made-eli-manning-new-york-giants-legendEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- It's the drive that says everything about Eli Manning the football player. The poise, the moxie and even-keeled demeanor came to the fore even in the most stressful of situations. The former New York Giants quarterback put it all on display Feb. 3, 2008, in a career-defining, game-winning march which beat the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. It was this moment that propelled Manning's legacy into a different stratosphere. He was no longer aw-shucks Eli, brother of Peyton and son of Archie. The youngest of the Manning boys was the conductor of a monumental upset (the Giants were a 12.5-point underdog) highlighted by his clutch performance in the final 2:39 in Glendale, Arizona. Without that 14 minutes of real time, the retirement of his No. 10 jersey at halftime of the Giants-Atlanta Falcons game at MetLife Stadium Sunday (1 p.m. ET, Fox) might not be happening. And that game, followed up by another 4 years later, is the reason you can't talk about the history of the NFL without talking about Eli.

Eli was instrumental in the two trophies we have in our case. That alone, should allow him to never have to pay for a beer in the Tri-State area for as long as he lives.

Many discount his performance in that first win and say it was the D who earned it. Which is probably accurate. But his performance in the playoffs was a big reason for them being in the Superbowl.

Tuck could have easily won that MVP but the league or the media or both decided decades ago to use the QB to represent the entire team for regular season and SB MVP awards.

Tuck was the best player on the field that day. However, we don’t win it all without Eli driving us down the field for the game winner. In the ‘11 championship. Eli was and always will be the player who got us there. And the pass he made to Manningham was that of legends.

Its true that Defence was a huge facto in that game and stopped Brady. Eli played really well in those playoff games and made little mistakes. For his SB performance he actually did really well as that 18-0 Pats team had one of the best defences of that year and he got us 17 points against them. I guess the key factor was his ability to handle the pressure of the super bowl. He did not force things in first 3 quarters and when we were behind he brought us back with in the 4th as he did so many times in his career. Eli and Coughlin duo was awesome and after that we have been awful.
