Holmes was never good. Actually he is one of the worst CBs in the league. Last year opposing QBs completed 75% of their passes against him . This year it has went up to 77%.
I have no Idea where some on this board believe.. Believed Slayton and Holmes were or are good players Slayton played like a 5th round comp pick WR . 9% success rate Holmes plays like a 4th round DB, 11% success rate

It's really disappointing, I was excited about the pick and a lot of positive things were said about him coming out of the draft. He's played pretty poorly to this point.
If AJ is going to get more snaps in the slot, then assume RW is going to play on the outside?

We have bad luck drafting CBs the past 10 or so years... None pan out.
Prince was ok, but then Apple, Baker, Beal, Holmes, Hosely, Bennett Jackson, Ballentine...

When he is healthy. He'll be eased in very slowly.

Remember we had a couple of tandems that had promise early on yrs and yrs ago. Remember Will Pete and Will Allen? They looked good early on then I think Will Pete got hurt. Allen seemed like he just couldn't catch lmao. Just to mention that we thought at the time those 2 would lock up the spots for several years to come and we would be set. Will Pete was big and physical at around 6-1 to 6-3 and Allen was smaller but had pretty good coverage skills. But we must be snake bit otherwise because we haven't drafted anyone at that position to be a fixture and hold down their spot for shit it seems no more than a few years or so.

Holmes may or may not get better.
He hasnt regressed he just hasnt gotten the NFL game yet.
He's "thinker" and it seems that slows his game down. Just my thought.

Another reason it's been difficult to build a roster. We've had to spend cash on the expensive positions (pass rush and cb) to get good players there instead of being able to get them on cheap deals through the draft.

Missing on corners as badly as we have since 2016,the whiffs in the draft on the O line between 2013 and 2015(to be fair Richburg and Pugh were done in here by injuries),catastrophic injuries to playmakers (Nicks,Cruz, and even Odell to a point )then all but neglecting them since 2017 made a lot of this difficult TBH I go back to Beal and Baker for premium draft positions wasted .. They don't take Beal and Baker... The 2019 draft class we could have had both Dalten Risner(a very good guard that can play RT if needed)and Terry McClaren that year.. Nothing against Golladay but that 70 million would have brought back Tomlinson and gave 7s more cap room next year Assuming we still did everything else since that time Our O line is close to set...our playmakers are set and cheap .

Loved Ross' toughness I can't argue with that. Webbie became my boy after the light switch came on. He began to play with serious swag. I'll never forget when he intercepted I believe it was the cowgirls and jumped on the bench and talked shit to the fans lol. That INT vs Farve was epic.... Yeah I remember Ross came back after hurting his shoulder; I believe it was in game. I'd say them as a tandem was likely the best and we did pretty good drafting those two.

Aaron Robinson was supposed to compete for that position.

Loved Ross' toughness that's always the hope for our drafted DB's, Webster's example how he appeared lost till late his 2nd season when it suddenly seemed to come together, but... most times if you suck you just suck with only marginal improvement at best and didn't Will Allen go to federal prison on some rap for being involved with a fraud ring or something

I liked the Holmes pick, but unfortunately he hasn't played very well.
The Robinson pick was a clue about what this coaching staff thinks about Holmes in the slot.

Lit a spark under that ass for the rest of his career.

Maybe that is why some of us actually thought these players were good. They show glimpses, but are too inconsistent to rely on.
