Against Car: 8 pressures 5 tackles, 3 TFL 4 QB hits 2.5 sacks
Wow. Don’t remember the last time the giants had a great rookie playmaker on the D.
Looking like quite the steal

It was against a rookie LT but your point is well made, can’t remember an edge rusher with numbers like that in awhile.
Hope this helps his confidence more than anything.

Little premature to be calling anyone a steal. Let’s see him do that for an entire season, seems like a bit of a hot take at this point but hopefully he keeps it up.

He’s close to top 10 in the entire league in sacks, as a rookie, through 7 weeks. He’s not a gimmick, he’s the real deal. Not to mention he’s on a team that doesn’t have anyone to compliment him on the opposite edge. Steal. 2nd rounders don’t make that impact that fast

5.5 sacks on the season. I'd like to see him get some FF's, strip sacks, but he's surely in the DROY discussion.

So with the 2.5 sacks today I believe that gives him 4.5 sacks on the year in 7 games, He is coming along just fine, he is already a decent starter for us and he will be better in the 2nd half of the year. And better yet next year.
He was a steal that deep in the 2nd rd. Teams were afraid of his leg injury. On this board I was arguing to take him with the 20th pick. But as it looks right now I am quite pleased with how it worked out with our first 2 picks.

He is getting important experience he has gone against the best at times think that every snap for him is like tutorial on what he needs to get better at to compete with the tyron smiths of world, thats a good thing every now and then he is gonna get a guy who builds his confidence .

Some of his sacks are coverage sacks. But you’re absolutely right. He’s clearly progressing. It would help a lot if he starts changing games. That’s what we need to help the line. Start winning one-one-one battles consistently and we’ll have a brand new playbook on defence available.

Reverse it, were you calling Thomas a bust half way through last season because of the way he played during the first half? Did you call Jones a bus after his first year? Please don’t tell me players can’t regress either. See Hernandez, Solder, seemingly Peart, Bradberry, Jackson, etc. Put together two consistent seasons and then I’ll call him a steal but after 7 games and today was against two rookie tackles and a QB who was benched? C’mon.

Fair. But to answer your first 2 questions, no. Thomas and especially Jones showed plenty of flashes that weren’t normal for rookies as well

Also Seems Quincy Roche was making some plays as well Many of us thought he was a bit of a steal as a waiver wire pick up
Much better setting the edge against the run...

I have not seen the snap counts yet but I'm interested to see where he is at. They seem to be giving him more and more snaps as we go on. So far on the season he has only played 57.5% of the snaps. Today he played 30 pass rush downs and there were 44 total. He is getting more but has still played much less than most top tier pass rushers. Leonard Williams for instance is at 80% and has 90 more snaps than Azeez. Myles Garret is the best pass rusher this year and is at 80% as well. Azeez is creeping up there.
He is a beast for sure, and will keep improving.

Fair. But to answer your first 2 questions, no. Thomas and especially Jones showed plenty of flashes that weren’t normal for rookies as well I hear ya man, I just got done PM’ing with Irish Mike and pretty much said the same thing I told you. I’m excited for Ojulari and hope he does become the real deal, he will be fun to keep an eye on this year and next, but we’ve all seen too many players be on hear wonders. Living in cowboy country I get to hear about it every year. I remember LVE’s rookie year when he was teamed up with Jaylon (after getting fully healthy) and they were scary. A lot of people considered them the best linebacker duo in the country that year and it was looking like we would have our hands full for years to come. Fast forward to the next season, they were hardly an impact (LVE wasn’t even playing well before his injury that year) and fast forward to now…Jaylon is gone and they didn’t pick up LVE’s 5th year option. There’s stories like that for every team, every year, so I just keep my guard up and don’t judge any player after one rookie season whether they played good or bad. That’s just me.

He has a brother at LSU who is having a heck of a season. He is a sophomore. Is it too early to start dreaming of drafting him and having the Ojulari brothers lead the league in sacks?
I have high hopes for Azeez, hope to see him continue to develop. Either way he had a hell of a game out there today.

Do that for an entire season lolz...would be the greatest defensive season in NFL history by like 3x. As always, the truth is in the middle of these two extremes. He's having a really solid rookie campaign especially as a 2nd rounder and that game was great. But our pressure rate as a defense has been poor and so hopefully this is the start of affecting games a little more as a unit.

Hasn't Azeez been lining up on the left side of the line for most of his snaps? He looked real good coming off the right side to close out the game.
