Jerry Reese.
Easily. I am curious about something so I came to ask it here. I read boards and comment sections and everywhere I look, I don't see anyone with ANYTHING good to say about Jerry Reese, ever.
It's always "He drafted the JPP of tight ends, Eli Apple, Flowers,"
He also drafted the real JPP. Who won us a game in Dallas that helped the Giants make the playoffs and was a heavy contributor to a championship.
A lot of Reese guys are still in the league. Eli Apple is, and he's on a team that would put a boot up the Giants ass making plays. Some would say "Eli Apple sucks". Yeeeeah....but he's in the league...where thousands of great athletes ain't good enough to make it and still cashing checks. So he ain't THAT bad.
All of Reese's success gets credited to Accorsi. Why? Accorsi wasn't a phenomenal GM. He set Reese up very nicely but Reese was working in scouting or something in some kind of way helping out. Y'all know what I'm talking about I just don't remember his title. So Reese helped contribute to his own future success.
The man was with the organization for two decades. Busted his ass and worked his way up to getting the GM job at the recommendation of Ernie by being competent. No nepotism or any of that. The man earned it, and he was a lifelong Giant. He represents what a lot of people claim to respect. Got there and delivered. Twice.
Giants fans talk about Reese as if he didn't draft Hakeem Nicks,Steve Smith (most underrated play of SB 42 3rd and 11).Ahmad Bradshaw, Mario Manningham, Linval Joseph, Kenny Phillips, Odell Beckham Jr, Aaron Ross, and others who were direct contributors and playmakers who gave you guys some of the best sports moments you will ever get.
He also made good free agent signings like bringing in Antrel Rolle, Deion Grant, Michael Boley. Guys who were factors in getting RINGS. Not 13-3 seasons and NFC championship game losses like Green Bay year after year.
Even when he went on his complained about spending spree in 2016...that was successful. It was so successful that a dumb ass like Ben McAdoo was able to take an NFL team to the playoffs. If the Giants had an actual, capable coach they might have won it that year.
What do Gettleman spending spree results look like? Right lol.
Reese put just as much hardware in the Giants trophy case as George Young. He made a lot of bad draft picks, but so did George Young. So did Ernie Accorsi. Wellington Mara almost ran the franchise off the edge of the earth and had to be saved from himself.
Yet Giants fans love and respect these guys and everyone EXCEPT Jerry Reese. They love Strahan, Eli, Coughlin, everyone. But to "hell with Reese, he didn't do shit" "Accorsi's team", etc.
So I guess what I am asking is, can Giants fans please explain to me why this is? Why is it that when Giants fans talk about Jerry Reese, they have nothing good to say?

I agree with you, he is a major part of 2 SB wins!

It’s Tiki Barber and it’s not even close. He’s an all time Giant, and he’s treated like a pariah all because he ruffled a few feathers with his comments towards everyone’s favorite son, Eli Manning.

He announced he was retiring in the middle of a season. Not only made comments about Eli after he retired, but also about strayhan while he was playing. A great player and a bad teammate and person in general. It's funny how 60 thousand people booing him in his own a stadium are somehow wrong...

At least Giants fans give Tiki credit for actually making contributions on the field. Everyone acts like Jerry Reese never made a single good decision the entire time he was here. Do you ever see anyone say anything good about Reese? I don't.

Respectfully, i recall his comments went beyond Eli. We all recall how often Tiki fumbled the football. Tiki would have given the Giants no choice but to part ways with b/c he was fumbling so often. It was Coughlin who helped Tiki solve that issues. At the conclusion of his self serving retirement tour, he throws Coughlin under the bus. Add on multiple, very pompous “it’s my opinion” takes as if he was a highly respected part of the media despite having zero credentials rubbed everybody wrong. On the flip side, imo Michael Strahan was not adored by fans yet witnessed and learned a lot of Tiki mistakes and what moves not to make. The rest is history in the lime light although Barber appears to have found success elsewhere financially. Still hasn’t won back the fans though.

Most of these egotistical prima donnas are all the same. And you’re right, Coughlin resurrected Tiki’s career. And Barber saved Tom’s job in ‘06. When he went nuts against Washington and led them to the playoffs. Holding a grudge for this long towards a great player is petty.

Do you ever see anyone say anything good about Reese? I don't. What were some of them? Some of his good contributions? Aaron Ross, Steve Smith, Ahmad Bradshaw, Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz (he came on during the Reese regime), Kenny Phillips, Mario Manningham, JPP, Linval Joseph, Jonathan Hankins, Odell Beckham Jr. A few of these guys were direct contributors to championships. A lot of Reese guys are still in the league and prospering. Ereck Flowers is still in the league and will be flattening Giants defenders in a few weeks.

What bothers me is and maybe someone can explain it to me? Both the Giants and Jets charge PSL's for the same stadium correct, yes/no?

Both the Giants and Jets charge PSL's for the same stadium correct, yes/no? Yes, they doubled down . . . for a stadium with zero character. Go look at Arthur Blank’s fan friendly menu pricing. The beautiful new stadiums. Even the Bills created a heated section. The Pats stadium has character and, omg, they win.

Another player who comes to mind is Keith Hamilton. No one ever mentions the hammer when talking about past Giant greats. Name me a player who had double digit sacks at defensive end, moves inside. And is still a great player? Tough guy, who brought it every Sunday.

Tiki was non PC & spoke his mind & opinion, most people don't like that. Eli was never a vocal leader like his brother & Tiki called him out on it, nothing wrong with him saying it was "comical". It probably was. Derek Jeter announced that he was retiring and all yr long got farewell retirement parties at all stadiums they played at. I'm a huge Tiki fan & am glad that he will probably end up staying as the Giants all time leading rusher as it's looking doubtful that Saquan will surplant him. As for what he did in his personal life, his life, his business. Lot of you throwing stones at the guy live in glass houses yourselves.

Difference is Tiki went into the media and tired ridiculing others while standing on their shoulders to feel taller. Jeter remained quiet. Tiki retired b/c his “heart” wasn’t in it, ridiculed Coughlin who taught a fumbling Barber how to hold the football and ridiculed the QB. Both of which won Super Bowls once he retired Jeter never mentioned anything about his heart or ridiculed any players. He praised everybody.

Not saying Tiki is perfect, I just respect the fact that he doesn't play the PC game & says what he feels regardless of who it might buuthurt/offend. Doesn't take away from the fact that he is the greatest RB to ever play for the Giants & put up his 3 greatest statistical seasons after age 29! Rushed for 5,040yds at a 5ypc clip! 27 rushing TDs +4 more rec TDs. 2000+ all purpose yds all 3 yrs. No other RB in NFL history ever did this to my knowledge. It's BS that he's not in the HOF along with Simms.

Why is it that when Giants fans talk about Jerry Reese, they have nothing good to say? I see where your argument is but I don't agree with it. Reese is among the best GMs the Giants have ever had. For me, it's Young, Accorsi, Reese. Put 'em in whatever order you like. As far as fan's emotional reactions to Reese and not giving him proper credit. I think it's the inconsistency of his results, that tends to polarize people since some will over focus on the bad, some will over focus on the good leaving few to view his performance objectively.

com’on Tiki vs Jeter? Difference is Tiki went into the media and tired ridiculing others while standing on their shoulders to feel taller. Jeter remained quiet. Tiki retired b/c his “heart” wasn’t in it, ridiculed Coughlin who taught a fumbling Barber how to hold the football and ridiculed the QB. Both of which won Super Bowls once he retired Jeter never mentioned anything about his heart or ridiculed any players. He praised everybody. Jeter is PC, Tiki isn't. Being PC is what Coughlin did. He didn’t bark out and kill Barber. How easy would it have been for Coughlin remind Barber he was a liability until he taught Barber how not to be a turnover machine. Barber was an @sshole and an ego maniac who needed to be humbled. His arrogance cost him a prime position in the limelight whereas Strahan was more humble and became what Barber thought he would become. I’ve never cared about the HOF. Now, it’s not for only the greats anymore. Not sure if Barber or Simms belong or not. IMO, neither are HOF players but in this day and age who knows?

Jerry Reese. Easily. I am curious about something so I came to ask it here. I read boards and comment sections and everywhere I look, I don't see anyone with ANYTHING good to say about Jerry Reese, ever. It's always "He drafted the JPP of tight ends, Eli Apple, Flowers," He also drafted the real JPP. Why is it that when Giants fans talk about Jerry Reese, they have nothing good to say? I agree that JR never got the credit he deserved for those 2 SB wins. A lot of fans wanted to give all of the credit for those SBs to Accorsi, TC and Eli and put all of the blame for the Giants' problems on JR's shoulders. JR definitely made plenty of mistakes that rightfully cost him his job, but he deserves his fair share of the credit for the successes that happened during his time as GM just like he deserves his fair share of the blame for the failures.

It’s Tiki Barber and it’s not even close. He’s an all time Giant, and he’s treated like a pariah all because he ruffled a few feathers with his comments towards everyone’s favorite son, Eli Manning. I think when the phrase, "booed by the fans at his induction to the ring of honor" comes up, you have your man.

My vote is
Homer Jones.
Jones averaged 22.3 yards per catch, the most in NFL history among players with a minimum of 200 receptions. Fifty years later, he still ranks sixth in franchise history in receiving yards and is tied for sixth in touchdown catches. Oh, and he invented the spike as a touchdown celebration.

One good draft as GM, his first.
A bunch of really bad picks after that. Swung and missed at just about every OL pick. B grade Beatty was his mediocre best.
Arrogance however was what killed him; two quick examples:
1. With a horrendous OL getting no better, he signed no FA and drafted not a single OL that year. When challenged on it he said, "the talent is there on the OL, it is up to the coaches to bring it out."
2. The time the high school reporter challenged him on a personnel decision and he blew him off like he didn't know what he was talking about. The next day we find out that the kid was right and JR was trying to fake his way past the facts.
