shame the media didn't ask John who Chris wanted during the Barkley draft. Then we'll know if the GM makes the call. Im more concerned about who wanted Daniel Jones Folks point their finger at Barkley, but I think Jones was DG's worst pick over his tenure. Whether we agree with the concept or not, the idea when drafting Barkley was to build around Eli for the next couple years. Once we drafted Jones the following year that concept went out the door. Drafting a RB that high then deciding to start over the following year by completely reaching for an average QB set us back tremendously. Again, whether we agree with the concept or not, once we drafted Barkley we should've stayed the course with Eli and continued to build the trenches and weapons around him through the remainder of his contract. Yup, what we expected. He lost the room. Obviously the only 2 players that said something positive about Joe Judge were Logan Ryan(Thanks for that contract cause I was never getting that anywhere else) and Saquan Barkley.

He also missed the part that Chris Mara has 0 authority and it is the GM and coach who have the power. Now maybe they need a productive person with some say in that spot that Chris occupies. I think that's exactly where we’re headed. Certain members of the media want to feed fan frenzy with the Chris Mara "runs the team" theory. Maybe years ago Chris had more of a role, but that has been marginalized. He'll always have a title, but that doesn't mean he has any power. I'm curious what they do with that little weasel Chris Petit he should be held accountable too the fake burner account and the poor drafts of the past 5 years.

I think he now knows we are all on to him and is on notice that now all blame goes his way if this losing continues He can deflect all he wants but the evidence is overwhelming since 2012 The constant-Fredo and the power structure as is We will see how the process shakes out If none of the names that we see want the job it's obvious The bad decisions started way before 2012 thats when the nucleus of those 2 sperbowl teams reached their expiration date. You don't just get bad overnight it takes 3 to 4 years of bad drafts before those guys lose their prime, it lines up with what I always say 2008 to 2009 was the beginning of the end. now Chris Mara might have something to do with the last 9 years. look back at 2008 and 2009 I don't even remember who they drafted but I will bet they had gotten 1 or 2 players out of each of them. Answering my own question this is before Chris Mara 2008 -2009 they had 16 picks between the 2 in 200b it was goos Kenny Phillips / T2 / Mario Manningham 2009 in was the suckle started and never ended Hakim Nicks the real only solid starter Will beatty came from this draft but he earned the starting JOB IN 2012 it took him 3 years and 2013 he was the worst tackle in football before mercifully breaking his leg late in the season he really never came back and was the LT anyone thought he would be from there the drafts get worse . so 4 starters and contributors in 16 picks not so hot. They still had 2010 and 2011 that were just as bad this is where the problems starter more 2009 then 2008 and it never guy better.

I'm pretty sure Chris Mara has a reputation around the league as a skilled evaluator. He literally started a company around it that most NFL teams used. We suck, and it sucks. But only here could the owner get on camera, admit everything was his fault, say he doesn't expect anyone to trust that he's going to get it right, but still will try and do so to earn back trust, hire an outside GM like we've all be asking for while not rushing the process, fire the coach no one wanted to keep, and have the GM hire the coach (with a 99.9 percent chance of approving the hire rec.).....and be mad about it. Don't really know what else the guy could do. He does and Tim Msonald has a pretty good rep as an up and coming evaluator also.. Jay if you go back to the drafts from 2009 on they have been putrid 3 full years before Chris came to the Giants I'm not defending him but didn't start the mess were in it started with bad drafts from JR and DG at the time not sure if Ross was on the job yet.

I really don't care about the other family members. JM has been the problem. Let's see if he has truely learned anything and will give the new GM the authority to do his job. He said that the GM and HC are the ones who have the final say unless there are off the field issues. He said this is the way its always been! As you said lets wait because I want to see it not hear it!! He said that about player evaluation in the draft and fa. What I'm hoping is different is they will hire a GM and will allow him to pick his coaching staff, and generally stay out of that process. That is not how it's always been, it's almost the exact opposite. I couldn't care less if the GM can fire family members. IMO that's irrelevant. The only guy who matters is JM. And maybe tisch.

So you are OK with the status quote of the past 8 years? Where did I say that? The fan base wanted Gettlemen and Judge gone, they wanted the new GM to hire the Coach all are being done as the fans wanted . For the fan base to cry saying it's the same old Giants becuase an Owner doesn't publicly fire his brother or relinquish his position is Ludacris . Again this pound of flesh the fans are demanding will not happen and they need to stop .Nothing I have said means I'm happy with the way things have gone but DG is gone JJ is gone and Ownership is looking outside the Giants family for the next GM, fans need to stop the crying. Sometimes it feels Mara and Co do what the fans ask because as long as the customer is happy and have scapegoat to direct their anger at, people will be happy to hand over their hard earned money. Look at board and you see excitement as if things can't get worse but the track record says it can. If the next GM and coach only win 10 games by year 3 are the fans going to have patience? Me personally, I have no trust in this ownership or their ability to build a good team.

Drafting Saquon looked bad once they failed to give him a good line. Nobody was complaining when they picked him or after his rookie year. Just Imagine if Eli had a good line to go with Saquon and OBJ. Daniel will always be the biggest mistake imo. Not only was he a massive reach, but the team just wasnt setup for a rookie QB.

I will only be convinced with wins not talk about John Mara and his tail between his legs. Time to step back and see if it gets better on the field. None of us can know if this new coming GM/HC team will turn the ship around. There will be negative and positive opinions on this board but IMO the talent evaluation has sucked for 10 years so who ever they pick they have a lot of work to do to make it right. It will take some time to change it to positive. Same. I’ve been listening to the talk for 10 years. So much that I don’t believe them, because who could? Some fans appear excited. I envy them. It’s a wide search for a GM, because he’s received nothing but criticism for his pattern of narrow searches. But this is one of the only public decisions he makes that can be evaluated. How many more does he make that we can’t see that are just as bad (or worse)? That’s the problem. Zero confidence in his ability or leadership until he proves otherwise. Coming off a Super Bowl when life is peaches everything is fine but after 10 yrs we finally saw the lack of leadership and decision making. Now the media bashed the crap out of him and he has no choice but to take it. And rightfully so but I will give him a chance to show as a CEO he can turn the ship in the right direction. For me like you its a wait and see game. I won't kick JM while he is down but he needs to step up to the plate and realize he has to delegate football operations and keep his hands off. And further more I still have reservations about Chris Mara and Tim McDonnell but if things turn around then I will back off on that. John said their both talented I don't know as a part of me thinks there just relatives to take over in case of death. Maybe I'm completely off base and I hope I am. By the way CD I always enjoy your posts!

all i know is whatever he's doing and whatever affect it's having.. hasn't been good. again, they do not get the benefit of the doubt from me any longer. They've all been holding high positions in the org and the org has done nothing but fail. If its them or not, doesn't matter to me anymore, bc all I know is this franchise is a shit show and its the same people that still linger that are the only constants. Is that that hard to believe that Gettleman and Judge were behind the bad personnel decisions? They were just both fired. I don't know why people are obsessed with family conspiracies when the answers are right there. More evidence you don't the follow the team. Been known since the early Reese years the draft room selections are based on an accumulation of votes with family members the many. If tied, the GM breaks the tie during the Reese years. Com'on Skip, you're behind by decades.

Fine but in the end as a CEO you run it the way you want but in this NY market expect tough questions and bombs coming at you. The NFL is a results driven business no matter how you run it. All eyes are on JM and the Giants not just fans but all sports talking heads and regular NFL fans. This team has been a laughing stock and a very easy target.

A lot of Owners want to be Al Davis so bad but the Late Al Davis was a damn Commissioner, Scout, Head Coach before becoming a Owner so he was a FOOTBALL GUY!
Most of these owners are far from "Football Guys" they're successful Businessmen pretending like they know what they're doing so they can get credit and look like a genius but they're just ruining their own Franchise.
Hire the right GM and get out of the way and let him build this thing from the ground up and I think Mara FINALLY realize that his way is simply not working so now he is ready to get some real Football People in here but we shall see who is hired and if he tries keep Chris Mara and Kevin Abrams in place to look over the new GM Shoulder and reporting back to him then not much will change

Businessmen who buy teams, it’s usually an ego thing imo. The often stay out of the way. Mara, i believe he thinks he stays out of the way. He doesn’t. The Eli fiasco, forcing Coughlin’s coordinators and that draft room . . . he’s more involved than he’s willing to admit.

Mara will probably still end up promoting from within or just hiring another one of his buddies to be GM.
As much as I can't stand Jerry Jones, he doesn't tolerate mediocrity the way Mara seems to. I wish Mara was like Jones in that one respect and raised hell and demanded better from his organization and team.

Not sure how many back-end decisions he's involved with, not that many that we know about. The decision to make Getty try one more go around with Eli. That one obviously was a dud. The decision to trade ODB. Seems that trade has worked out OK for the Giants since ODB was hurt almost his entire tenure with CLE. The decision to push Jason Garrett onto Joe Judge. This organization needs a strong GM and strong coach that'll be willing to push back if Mara tries these kinds of things.

It absolutely PAINS me to say it, but Jones has assembled a better scouting/talent evaluation system compared to us. Flat out, full stop, they draft much better than us. We can say that Getty/Reese made bad picks, and that’s obviously true, but there’s hundreds of players with thousands of data points assembled, high school coach interviews, just so much data per player. We keep pointing at the heads and asking for them to be cut off. But what if the media stories are true and our entire scouting department functions like one from the 1970s while everyone else is pouring over analytics and analysis we don’t even use? We’ve been so bad for so long I’m worried the rot is a lot deeper than we think.

How do we value various positions and establish draft priorities? How can we draft a RB at #2 overall when we had a roster in such disarray? We could have traded down for perhaps 2 #1 picks or a 1 and two 2's. We chose a RB. We could have had 2 additional OL line pieces in place right now with that draft capital. How can we make our marquees FA signing a WR and then use another first round pick on a WR when our OL remains in disarray? This flawed thinking goes beyond talent evaluation though we are sorely lacking there as well.

Then, by the time 2020 came around, we presumably would've had a better nucleus in place and could've drafted Burrow/Herbert/Tua. Everything was half assed. the worst decision by the organization was believing in Eli. Mac basically said Eli is done. The outcry from ex-players, the kill the coach crew and the media all helped bring back a QB who was finished. Any chance in hell Eli playing well should have been OL. The idiot went HB and arrogantly felt the remaining picks could not only build the OL but the front 7 of the defense he shipped out.

To be fair, the timing of Eli's age, Mac's bullshit offense, and a pretty middling oline was a terrible combination of things that kinda happened all at once. Hell, seeing what we've become, I'd take Eli's 2018 production in a heartbeat haha. But the mistaken belief we shouldn't just cut the cord was absolutely damaging. And on top of it, if you're really gonna try and eek out another year or two from your franchise legend, you sure went and built the roster super poorly to support that.

Honestly, we're still reeling from Gettlman's beginning when we were "rebuilding while competing" That mantra twisted us around and further annihilated an already broken team, and I think Mara's train of thought was steered into that wrong direction ever since. I think right now this week we're finally turning a corner as philosophies change, made evident by an expansive GM search.
I hope Mara carries through and does this right.
everyone freakin over chris mara (i get it), but I dont think its an insurmountable issue if we get the right guys im here.

This flawed thinking goes beyond talent evaluation though we are sorely lacking there as well. I completely agree on a lack of strategy. My opinion on Barkley isn’t popular, but I still don’t hate that pick. I accept the gamble. Just like the Pete Carroll throw in the SB on the goal line. If it works he’s brilliant, if it doesn’t he’s an idiot. Success fixes strategic mistakes and failure trumps reasonable decisions. I can’t argue that taking a RB at #2 is a poor use of that pick. It’s true. But if Barkley stays healthy and kept his rookie season performance consist no one’s talking about that pick. You and I are probably more aligned on Mara than I am with any other poster. Mara should have stepped in on that spending spree and said no. But he’s desperate and can’t take the heat. It makes absolutely no sense at all. It’s like buying a $1,000 bike helmet before you buy the bike.
