The Sox got the most they could for Betts. They just lost Bogie and got nothing. Despite what you think, the Sox don't have bottomless pockets. They have to make tough decisions. At least they got a good player for Betts. They HAD bottomless pockets. Your owner is now fattening his wallet instead of spending YOUR money on the team. Im pretty sure the covid / economy is the reason why he has tightened his spending. The Red Sox were a top 5 payroll team for a decade plus. Its how they won those championships. They have plenty of money to burn. Just they hired this new GM to try to compete with a much smaller budget, like the Rays do, and it isnt working so far. Do you think they learned from Bogeartz and will trade Devers this season now? His last year? You know, before he wears pinstripes in 2024 for a decade? MLB owners have gone crazy. so many are desperate the win now that they are handing out these stupid long term deals. 11 years? 13 years? It's insanity. I don't want my team to go down that rabbit hole. I'm fine with trying to build our farm system, especially with young arms like Tampa did. Will they sign Devers? I'm sure they will try. But sometimes a guy wants what these other free agents have gotten. Personally, I think letting Bogie go was right for us. No way he should be paid into his 40's. I hope we sign Devers but it's 50/50 at best. And while the Sox had a bad year in 2022 due to horrific pitching, don't forget they were two games from the WS in 2021. In my view it should be pitching, pitching and pitching moving forward.

In my view it should be pitching, pitching and pitching moving forward. The length of contracts are a mirage. A 10 year contract for $350M is more harmful than a 13 year deal for $350M. Teams are spreading out the AAVs on the these contracts to get more players in the prime of these players contracts to win more, and disregarding the last 3-4 years of the contract as a write off. It makes sense if done correctly. When Xander is 40 getting $27M, it will be the year 2033 and $27M will be a drop in the bucket. Inflation will increase salaries and salary caps. So they will probably just DH or cut him completely. Its no different than wasting $72M on the Rusney Castillo deal or when the Yankees were eating $20M per season for Jacoby Ellsbury. Except when you give these guys that 10-12 year contract, you know they are good NOW. Mookie, Trout, Bogaerts, Devers, Judge, Correa, Cole, etc. Long ass deals that wont work in the end, but work NOW. As for pitchers, does Kluber fit that bill for you? They missed on Rodon. DeGrom. Verlander. Bassitt. Eovaldi. Etc.

No one did it better than “The Boss” The man did anything and everything to put a winner on the field. He also did a lot for the Tampa community, and took care of a lot of former ball players. He was an owner that made other fan bases jealous. For he put his money where his mouth is.

Former MLB player Carlos Baerga posted on his IG account that the #RedSox will be announcing the signing of Rafael Devers for a 11 years, $332 million.

Solid move.. Omar has always had an eye for talent. The Yankees are now trending towards having baseball people in the building, instead of the egg heads in the analytical department.

I said they don't have bottomless pockets like the Yankees do. And Devers is 26 years old. Both Judge and Bogie are 30 years old. They couldn't sign both Devers and Bogaerts. So they decided to sign the right guy. Good move by the Sox. It wasn't a desperate move like SD and the Yankees did. It was a long term deal for a young player just coming into his own.

It takes Devers to the same age in his final contract year as Judge. 39. Basically its a 12 year $350M contract with the arb year this year. I agree though that it was a good signing by the Red Sox. John Henry was desperate to get the Red Sox fans off his back.

You're a bitter, bitter man. You were imagining his left handed bat at Yankee Stadium for the foreseeable future. I feel your pain.

Bring kraken back to the Bronx. He's improved a lot on defense and we need his bat.

Montas was a terrible trade from Cashman. What a disaster. Gave up some top prospects too for him. Should have kept Sears in the rotation where he was great, and developed Waldichuk, one of my favorite pitching prospects. Cash emptied the pitching prospect barrel for a bunch of trash.
