maybe since he made it known prior to the test he will get a game or two chopped off the suspension. He says he made it known before the test .... He actually didn't. He worded that denial very carefully...he said he contacted the league office before confirmation If my understanding is correct, the NFL gives you a test, and if you fail, you get a second confirmation test to...well, confirm the first test. So the timeline is he took a substance He got tested Knowing what was about to happen and before the confirmation test, he called the league office.

I agree that the fact he was very forthcoming could result in a reduced sentence. However, the zero tolerance precedent is strong, so I’m not counting on it. As a big track and field guy, I applaud the NFL in this aspect. I have heard every excuse in the book for doping in the roid rife track scene. Everything from “a competitor spike my toothpaste” from an East German distance runner to “frequent passionate kissing with my gf caused me to ingest a masking agent” from a us sprinter.
I’ve become cynical. Everyone dopes. The dumb ones get caught. I have no problem with it.
People who have 2 kids in 2 years (I had 2 in 27 months) don’t want or need fertility drugs. What’s he going for? Octuplets?
Anywho. We’ll welcome the fresh legs when he gets back, but it doesn’t change much.

Please click on it to read. Didnt know how to make it larger View AttachmentAs I said, this is what he claims. I am aware of no one else confirming this version of events. This statement actually backs up Delicreep’s post that Tate was being cute with his wording. For the reasons I have already expressed in this thread, I am very skeptical of Tate’s version.

Anyone can parse his words anyway they like. I'll bet anyone or everyone here that wants to put up money Tate will be suspended 4 games.
$100 a pop. Any takers welcome.

This is the NFL policy: "Players are responsible for what is in their bodies and a positive test will not be excused because a player was unaware that he was taking a prohibited substance." Time to close this thread. Thanks for the advice but maybe wait on the results ? The policy is unambiguous. Tate will be suspended.

Tell your friend that contacting the league to make excuses is irrelevant and a bitch move. What's important is that like tate, he ( Mathias) failed a drug test but unlike Tate's wife his wife hadn't given birth right before the drug test failure. Mathias failed the test while he and his wife were trying to conceive, Tate's wife had already given birth so those drugs he took should have been out of his system. I liked the Tate signing, but he failed a test and has a history of lying. Idk what we're going to do but just deal with him and hope he plays well when he gets back.

LOL Mathis said the same thing that he and his wife were trying to conceive but tate and his wife already had a baby.

I'm just asking if you want to bet he won't get a 4 game suspension. Maybe you should read the thread first and see what I have already stated.. I've read all the blather and excuses. Every player has a reasonable way to make sure he is not taking a banned substance. I'm just asking if you want to bet he doesn't get a 4 month suspension?

Tate is making it hard to like him. There is no reason he should be taking fertility drugs so this excuse now makes him look a lot worse. He went from getting sympathy to looking like a liar and a cheater.

C’mon BR why are defending a guy that failed a drug test. Even if they reduce the suspension he’s still guilty. It looks bad but no one on the giants knew about this. If anything we should be angry at this guy for taking the giants money. Many thought he was already overpaid and now that he’s gonna miss games he definitely will be. But if it doesn’t work out we can now get rid of him. I think the rest of his contract is no longer guaranteed. I may be wrong about this but if he has a bad year and we can get rid of his contract I will be all for it. I however want him to have a monster year with 90+ catches and help the giants to the Super Bowl. No choice but to root for this guy but that doesn’t take away from what he did wrong. .

Many have pointed out Tate's statement could use a little more clarification and/or explanation. Timing issues and potential misleading statements could use further clarity. Additionally, he states "...and just days later I discovered...".
The word "I" being operative indicates he did research and made the discovery and it was not brought to his attention, otherwise.
This being the case, it would seem more logical for him to do the research prior to taking the substance. It would be hard to believe, after all the attention given to drug use, he wouldn't concern himself with taking and unknown substance until a few days later.

Especially a fertility drug ... you have to be an idiot not to at least suspect that a fertility drug could potentially contain banned substances.
I don't believe a word of his story and neither will the NFL
