State your choice and reasoning.
DJ has shown that he has the chops to back-up Eli. Drop Tanney and put Lauletta on the practice squad. Makes room for a 7th receiver.

Keep 2 QBs on the roster. Eli has been super durable all his career, DJ is obviously the next man up should Eli not play for any reason.
Lauletta can likely put on the practice squad and Tanney will probably be sitting on his couch all season if he isn't playing for the Giants. So, he would be available for a call-up as an emergency back-up.

wouldn't he have to clear waivers? Yes, but who's picking up Lauletta ? Plus if you claim him he has to go on the 53 not the practice squad. TY. Maybe Lauletta is better than the 2nd or 3rd that the Colts must deal with. lol.

Well that's true but the probable is he clears waivers. If he gets picked up so be it were losing our 4th QB. But I personally like Lauletta and I would like to keep him in reserve just in case of anything. And next year with Jones as the starter Lauletta then would have 3 years in the system and should be a good enough backup. Next year if we keep 3 QB's were in great shape. Tanney and Lauletta know the system as good as Jones. Seems like a win all around.
But I think this year we try and slip Lauletta thru the cracks.

Case Keenum looked good in Minnesota when Pat Shurmur was his offensive coordinator Yeah he did. And yet Minnesota let him walk, wonder why? In this mans NFL Its a numbers game because of the salary cap teams let good players go all the time so they don't get hit with a Salary Cap hit. I was not impressed with Haskins this preseason to start out with If I am the Redskins Case Keenum is my starting QB... and It looks like the Redskins are doing just that Keenum won the Starting Job, www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/08/25/case-keenum-wins-redskins-starting-quarterback-battle/?noredirect=on

This is more like a $5 question, but it’s Lauletta. If Tanney makes this team again he’s got something on management.

Lauletta. Less questions to answer about that 4th round choice. On a side note, Gettleman better be scouting that waiver-wire come Saturday night. The backups on the left side of the OL are abysmal. A WR might be in play, too. And the RBs behind Barkley? Amateurs.

Tanney looked horrible the last 3 pre-season games. Lauletta showed a little promise. Easy decision as far as I'm concerned.

Lauletta looks like a serviceable backup. Another year with Shurmur and I honestly think he can be around Case Keenum level. Which is fine and dandy for a backup.
Best case fantasyland, you get another late round guy in 2020, develop him and flip Kyle. Rinse repeat 6-7 times during DJs 20 year HOF, multiple SB career.

Lauletta outplayed Tanney but Lauletta got cut.
Guess they wanted someone that actually has NFL Regular Game experience.
Does Lauletta qualify for the PS?

Tanney is trash, if you’re going to keep 1, why him? I don’t get it.

Lauletta's play seems to be that of the QB that pretty much all the media folks predicted Daniel Jones would be.

I read something this morning that makes sense. Although neither Tanney nor Lauletta were/are going to see any playing time, Tanney is the quicker study and takes to the "scout QB" role much more effectively. I can see the benefit in that.
I was happy to just save the salary cap dollars and go with Lauletta, the Giants know how to spend their money wisely.
It is what it is and I am good with the decision.

I really cant believe we are talking about this in 3 different threads. On a scale of 1 to 100 of my concerns about this team, who the 3rd string QB is ranks about 99.

I kind of remember making a Pro Lauletta thread a few weeks back and people on here ripped me a new one told me either just keep two or keep Tanney as the third string QB because Tanney is better then Lauletta that Lauletta has a weak arm.

My gripe with all of the mid round QB picks has more to do with other positional needs.
When we drafted Nassib, Eli was already established as an iron man in the middle of his career. Our needs at DB and especially OL were critical and yet we wasted a pick.
The same was true with Webb and with Lauletta to a lesser degree.
I saw all three as wasted draft picks and it has played out exactly that way.

The thing is Donnie, the fans are always going to be calling for "stuff." We rely on the FO to make decisions based on thing unrelated to what some fans are thinking. With our OL in disarray and an injury resistant QB in the middle of his career, choosing a QB in the 4th round was malpractice imo. The standard answer btw was, "we didn't see an OL value there". Who cares, take the next best one. We DID NOT need a QB there under any circumstances.

The main problem I have with them releasing Lauletta is that Jones may now wear #17.
I'm afraid of experiencing flashbacks...

I think the premise of this thread has been answered. and the other 2 or three threads bemoaning the #3 QB spot It is sad in a surreal manner . We went from Giants Pride discussing when we are going to win another trophy in 2012. To how sucky our #3 QB is. When we have extensive decisions on this diminutive drivel . It shows the scale of how we have fallen.
