What I realise is that given our needs there's only so much we do can thru the draft. We will need to be highly active in FA too, really FA is more important than the draft adding talent and filling holes for next season.

What I realise is that given our needs there's only so much we do can thru the draft. We will need to be highly active in FA too, really FA is more important than the draft adding talent and filling holes for next season. We know Bettcher had a top 5 NFL defense for his three years in Arizona as DC, and if we look at what made his defense so incredible, we have to look at the talent he had, and how it pertained to what made it a success. This guys is an x and o guru, and his defense is based on linebacker play, and having pass rushers, with looks galore, and beautiful disguises. He blitzed a third his plays...and uses those linebackers for this purpose. Kareem Martin, Mintor, Bucannon, Golden, Riddick Weathersppon and Freeny Add in Chandler Jones and Alex Okafor the following year Add in Karlos Dansby's return the final year He also had half the field taken away with Patrick Peterson, and the great honey badger, and other number 7 from LSU...Tyrann Mathieu. Up front, Calais Campbell was all world. He lost this amazing talent his last year, and it showed. He was one huge reason the Jags became a superbowl favorite Bettcher was a Linebacker coach, and his defense runs through the linebacker...loves the Simmons type tweeners. This all said, this is where I believe we are hitting it free agency. I believe the draft is deep on OL and of course WR. We should be hitting that spot...oh, we have some good linebackers this year in the draft as well...but we need that wall, and free agency is not something that we're getting any studs. It costs 20 million to get an average run blocking left tackle these days...if Gettleman fails to get 2 tackles, and a center this year in the draft...it was a fail. Alright, so we now need to look at free agents. This is a tough way to build, and plan...as free agents for the most part are looking for security, and many will be more secure resigning vs moving...hopefully this will the case with the very decent Leonard Williams. This list I have compiled here is who is NOW available, and who I believe helps James Bettcher build another top 3 defense. Jadeveon Clowney is the easiest player to project into a Bettcher system. He is such a freak athletic wise, and he is able to play all over, from hand in the dirt to off the ball. His injuries are overblown, takes almost every snap...and while he will cost a pretty penny, he's the one free agent that takes the Bettcher system a level up. Some want to stay far away, but this is a player DG will be taking a long hard look at. He is only 27, and we need to take advantage of the rookie QB deal and large cap check we now have...I'm on board signing this player. However, Chris Jones, a 3-4 get the QB edge/tackle from KC is as of now, available. 27 as well...and many scouts believe he is the free agent edge 1...over Clowney. Gonna be 20-23$ per for this guy as well....he was 36 on the top 100. Spags I am sure wants him, and I am guessing the Chiefs will get it done in the end...after all, who wants to leave that great team The only good news in his situation being, KC is loaded at DT...and they have a lot of offensive talent that is in need to get paid. Can we acquire both he and Clowney? Add Simmons? That bring us to strange case of Yannick NgakoueHe is 25 years old, on the verge of being the next great NFL defensive star...and playing for the sinking Jags. The problems with Yannick is, he is more a 4-3 DE...and he is horrible against the run. Really bad. One of the Cards strengths with Bettcher was against the run...not sure we make a play for this guy due to that lack of feature. Now, some linebackers. We all know a 3-4 defense has quick inside linebackers...not Ogletree. This is one reason the Bettcher system lacks, and also another why Ogletree is not looking too good. He takes bad angles, and is a bit slow. In a Bettcher system, he is looking for a Troy Dye type ILB. This is another pet peeve I have with Dave Gettleman...his lack of acquiring players that adhere to the teams systems set forth by the coaching. We want a zone blocker, he shoves a power blocker to us. Frustrating. Anyway, in free agency, these are some linebackers I believe we target, again if available...this is early in the process. Remember, Bettcher needs the Simmons, Deone Bucannon type players to move all over...play box safety, cover, and bring blitzes from anywhere. Outside? Clowney can take that spot...but if you want to throw a few more edge types for his interchanging, moving all over... Dante Fowler Jr.... another ex Jags player, who took a 1 year deal with the Rams, and delivered. His 12 sacks and athletic ability at 260 pounds made his the 3 overall. High motor, great weak side backer...possibly option 2? He does have some off field issues, a battery against a guy...and does enjoy the tweets. Damn, teams should simply not allow tweeting...nothing positive ever comes from emotional decisions, from changing coaches, to tweeting. Judon and Dupree are both OLB's with stats, length, speed and burst. Both, IMHO will be signed by the Raven and Steelers. Then we have the Marcus Peters corner situation. I am not sold on the killer B's...I still believe we need a veteran corner. Peters, IMHO, is the best in free agency. If the Giants want to "save" a draft pick for another position, they can try and drop the dump truck of cash at this turnover taking machine....the pick master. Jeff Okudah is the top 5 pick from Ohio State, a true shut down corner. Nobody in free agency is close to what he will become. Peters is a very good corner, but again...has the antics such as the fight with Ramsey, the tweeting, you might shy away from. Just check out his scouting report when he came into the NFL...uncoachable was the one word, and many teams did not have him on their draft board. Buyer beware. I'm not sure exactly sure if another free agent corner will be as talented as Peters.... Chris Harris or Byron Jones? On offense, I see Humphries or a Conklin at OT, but I would hate to overspend for some possible injured player, or one year wonder....and pass up any draft specials. Humphries would however, be the OT I would target if I went that direction. Offensive line is imperative, and IMHO, the only aspect we need to make this offense click...sure another WR can help, but all that is moot until we stonewall the front 7 we are facing. Merry Christmas to all...and hopefully all the kids toys will not require 12 hour assembly

He can do a little of everything. Kind of a smaller frame, but flies around. Fun player to watch I think. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a riser as the draft comes closer

The good teams always find linebackers mid rounds (Wagner and Wright I think were 4th rounders) Really good value again it seems rounds 3-5

I would come away with this no trade draft very happy, provided we went smart and heavy in Bettcher guys in free agency.
2 high priced edge/3-4 players, a veteran corner, a right tackle ...and this team becomes a playoff contender
4: R1P4 OT ANDREW THOMAS GEORGIA 36: R2P4 C TYLER BIADASZ WISCONSIN 97: R3P33 CB PAULSON ADEBO STANFORD 112: R4P4 OT COLE VAN LANEN WISCONSIN 151: R5P4 LB JACOB PHILLIPS LSU 185: R6P4 CB ESSANG BASSEY WAKE FOREST 220: R7P4 WR K.J. Nice haul Absolutely...he's a Bettcher guy. Bettcher is going to need a Chandler Jones, and I see a perfect fit, and somebody many want to stay away from...but Clowney IMHO,would thrive under the Bettcher system. Williams or Chris Jones as the edge 3-4 DE? Both? Golden, Willians, Clowney and Jones? Getting greedy, but damn...

The ISAIAH draft As I have said, hire me as the GM I have signed every top pass rusher and a corner in free agency....and have drafted enough quality offensive linemen, linebackers and wide receivers for 3 teams. My 1st draft of the year where we are arguably on the outskirts of the Andrew Thomas/Chase Young lotto, and SOMEHOW he fell to us at 4. I didnt get a chance to solidify our pass rush, but the OL has been ideally fixed and added some needed depth with Durant. Im VERY happy with how this draft turned out, but honestly I took a shot with Pride at CB in the 7th but I dont really know much about him 4: R1P4 OT ANDREW THOMAS GEORGIA 36: R2P4 WR TEE HIGGINS CLEMSON 97: R3P33 C LLOYD CUSHENBERRY LSU 112: R4P4 LB TROY DYE OREGON 151: R5P4 RB ZACK MOSS UTAH 185: R6P4 S MYLES DORN NORTH CAROLINA 220: R7P4 TE HARRISON BRYANT FLORIDA ATLANTIC 247: R7P31 OT YASIR DURANT MISSOURI 249: R7P33 CB TROY PRIDE JR. NOTRE DAME I like...we will have 90 million to spend..do you go pass rush with it? I see 4-5 production studs available right now...things can change of course. I do not see any OT...maybe Humphries, and Conklin...but nothing like having a Thomas grow with Mr. Jones. I'm just wondering where we send some of that cash...Williams and Golden are signed if we can, we still have 70 million...that be a lot of dough for some pass rush. I agree, the pass rushers in free agency seem like a better bet than the OTs.

Just curious, did you just go BPA at each pick(not nitpicking, just curious because this actually made me look at some of these players and research, which is actually why this thread is useful as we get to know these players ) Ie Wallace... Interesting in that he seems to be a big play dynamic type WR but has an ACL . Wonder if he actually comes out or does he go back to school and try to have a bounce back senior year

Burrow, Young, and Thomas went 1, 2, and 3. Figured this would be a fun time to try and select players in every spot that I have not picked at all (at least as far as I can remember Gibson I may have had in another mock). A lot of talented guys. A lot of under the radar guys in this one that I think could be risers throughout the pre-draft process.
4: R1P4 CB JEFFREY OKUDAH OHIO STATE- He is great. Him and Baker could really be a solid duo on the outside at CB. Okudah could be the lockdown guy that we have been looking for and lacking for a couple years. Good tackler too to go with all of his amazing coverage abilities.
36: R2P4 OT MEKHI BECTON LOUISVILLE- absolute bulldozer at tackle. He isn’t completely polished technically but I pray to GOD we get another OL coach. Could be a guy who could turn into a very good tackle with some coaching. He’s an absolute bully when he gets his hands on you. Him and Hernandez (Zeitler too when healthy) would be a good, nasty core to the OL.
97: R3P33 EDGE QUINCY ROCHE TEMPLE- talented edge who has good productivity. He has good bend to him and really good motor from the times I’ve watched him. 7 sacks, 6 sacks, and 13 sacks this year (in order to earliest to most recent seasons).
112: R4P4 LB JACOB PHILLIPS LSU- very good tackler at the LB position. I’m so sick of watching guys like Olgetree whiff constantly on tackles they should have had. Phillips will not do that. I’m a fan of his game. He would be really good value at this point I think.
151: R5P4 WR ANTONIO GIBSON MEMPHIS- talented WR out of Memphis. He was used in a lot of different ways in school. They handed him the ball when lined up in the backfield, WR screens, etc. he is very tough to bring down when he gets the ball. He would bring a nice element to this offense.
185: R6P4 S KYLE DUGGER LENOIR-RHYNE- this is someone I stumbled into not too long ago and I’m intrigued. He has glowing reviews from people and all the stats/accolades you could imagine. Obviously he played at a lower level competition. He has been plugged all over the field at both safety spots, LB, etc. versatile guy who at the very least could be depth and a ST’s guy (also has return experience)
220: R7P4 RB PATRICK TAYLOR JR. MEMPHIS- tough runner out of Memphis. I like how he plays the game. Would be a good guy to bring in to give Saquon a break at times. Doesn’t dance around much. Finds the hole and hits it hard. I like his game.
246: R7P30 C GAGE CERVENKA CLEMSON- starter on a great team. Ridiculously strong guy and we certainly need help at that position because Halapio is not the answer.
249: R7P3 EDGE HAMILCAR RASHED JR. OREGON STATE- athletic edge with good production. Throw him into the pass rush rotation and let him get to work

Oh and he is a rare big bodied type that has sub 4.5 speed and an excellent route runner.. Line him in the backfield with Barkley in a pseudo 21 ....

I’d love to use him similar to how the chargers use Eckler. Granted more at WR percentage wise than Eckler, but they line him up everywhere and have him on the field with Gordon often. Having those two, someone who can work the intermediate routes (Tate, Shep, Engram, K Smith) and Slayton who is a deep threat. That would have a lot of different things the defense would have to account for. Deebo Samuel is used in a way that I would love to see Gibson used.

Yep 49ers have a fast break style running game where everyone Carrie's it Gibson is a bit taller than Samuels (6'1 ish)

Popular draft selection Dylan Moses is returning to Alabama. I’m surprised by that one
