The Cowboys are in cap hell now. They just signed EE and DL with big contracts and still have yet to sign Dak. Cooper is going to demand a big contract. I don't see how they can afford it.
If Garrett does get the OC, should we consider bringing on Cooper? Probably 19 mil.

Na...we can get a decent WR in the draft. Plus, if they use Engram differently. Use him as a deep threat and get a more traditional TE...that could minimize the urgent need for another WR this year.

I said the same thing when this was discussed a week ago. But it makes sense, when the Cowboys resigned Lawrence, Elliot, Martin and Smith I was thinking I guess this team wants to be in cap hell. Especially with Dak wanting his money now. Well, now we see why, they have money to burn. Those bastards..

Why spend 98 million for this guy when we can draft a guy who probably comes out of the box and be close to as good as a rookie day 2 or 3... Especially paying as much as we are already at WR...

I like Cooper but the draft this year is deep in receivers. Keep Slayton in his spot and get a new guy later in the draft.

Theyre numbers are. a bit misleading, but they do a good job of managing the cap. The guys they pay, produce. You would never see an Ogletree take up $10m or an Ellison take up $6m of their caproom. Their payout is very top heavy, but after their top 10 salaries, they get alot of production from those mid-tier guys. Dak & Amari should cost them about $50m/year, leaving them with over $30m to spend. Hence, why they'll let Byron Jones walk.

If we're passing Jeudy at #4, it makes entirely no sense to go for Amari. Jeudy's touted as the best route runner to possibly ever come out of college--better than Amari when he was coming out of Alabama and that was on of his strengths. Jeudy would also be on the 5-yr rookie deal.

The cap numbers are a little misleading on their surface. Our cap is likely to go upwards of 90 million after cutting Eli and Ogletree alone, nevermind if they move on from some other players as well.
In addition, we don't have any significant impending UFAs. The cowboys will likely use most of their cap space on resigning Dak and Amari alone, nevermind that they also have to figure out if they want to keep guys like Sean Lee, Randall Cobb, Robert Quinn and Blake Jarwin.
So, while the boys have some money now, a lot of it is already allocated internally (a benefit of having drafted pretty well). We will be looking at bringing in new guys.

I'm on the fence about Cooper. He is a heck of a WR but this class is very deep at WR. I would put my free agent money towards keeping Golden and Williams and trying to sign Conklin, Ngokue and Barrett. I would also plan on not giving Engram a huge contract and if we can trade back and gain picks snatch up Kmet.

Eli is no longer on a contract? It expired after the 2019 season. So there should not be anything to come off the books nor will he need to be cut as he will be a FA to my knowledge

Cooper costs too much and is not reliable to play a full season.

I thought he had one more year. Thanks for pointing out the correction.

Getting Cooper would go against everything joe judge prioritized. I still don't know why most mocks still have us drafting jeudy. It's not gonna happen.

As others have stated, this year is exceptionally deep in WR. I'd pass on giving a FA a huge contract, Amari or anyone else.

I wouldnt mind going after Cooper. I like Shep but he cant stay healthy lately and I think hes a little over rated by some fans here.
Cooper, Slayton, and a young stud in the draft would be nice imo.

Jeudy would be awesome, I just think if we really want a WR we should at least TRY and trade back and get picks and another stud WR. There are some really talented WRs. If we got Garrett and drafted Ruggs (after a trade down) having Ruggs and Slayton in a deep passing attack offense would be awesome.

We can get an Amari clone on day 2 for nothing.
We have EE on a rookie deal, Kaden Smith a UFA, and Ellison. I’m not keen on spending 20 million in cap AND creating a position of need in the draft that isn’t historically deep at that position.
