#2 - I think Jones showed in his very 1st game has the stuff which makes a legend. 4 TDs in a come from behind victory. Fumbles and durability have been a problem...glad we invested in a better backup QB in Glennon. Don't want to depend on the backup, but a good backup QB sure came in handy in 1990 when Hostetler won a Super Bowl. You mentioned Eli..oh no...you may awaken some people I was at that game. Not only did the Bucs get 2 fumbles from him, but also dropped 2 clean INTs on TD drives. Sure, DJ took advantage of it, but they were awful reads/ vision plays. That said, it was his very first game so whatever. He just has to improve on it, which I don't think he has yet. Only you could think back on Jones' first start and bring this up/come to this conclusion. Dropping INTs pretty much happens every week in multiple games around the league. Not a wild enough occurrence to look back on something good and say "yeah but..." Rookie QB in his first start, led a 17 pt comeback victory while throwing darts all over the field and his best weapon exited early in the 2nd quarter. Scored the game winning TD with his own legs. Can't imagine thinking anything else about that game other than the prior two sentences. Was one of the more exciting Sundays of the last 4 crappy seasons.

Why dont you try reading the second part of the post, where I did mention it was his 1st game? It was a very exciting game. I came away thinking DJ was the real deal after that and we finally got rid of the Eli stone age QB. Just clean up the turnovers. Im not going to ignore the fact he threw 2 balls right into the defenses hands. It happened. First game of his career so I didnt think much of it, just pointing out how different that game could have been. Other than the turnovers and a few really bad reads, he was great. We still needed a missed XP FG as time expired to win. Ill never forget that throw to Slayton. Amazing. And no, dropped INTs like this dont happen every game. From his first start he has shown a propensity to turn the football over at a very high rate. The 2 games last year that stood out as improvement he had 0 TD passes, with 0 turnovers which was why we won. Turnovers, vision and awareness are the 3 biggest concerns right now for me. If he cleans those up, even just reduces the frequency which is very possible, he could be a better QB, production wise, than Eli ever was. If he doesn't in year 3, its time for a new QB.

I remember, I was one of those people saying that. I wanted Josh Allen the DE so bad I could taste it. Until we drafted Ojulari this season you might have heard me still griping from time to time. Don't hate Jones just don't love him or have confidence in him but am optimistic. Of course I root for him. I do think he is going to take a step up this year. Last year was unfair to judge him with that team and all that was going on around him. This year I think he takes a big step with a much better offense. I really wanted Josh Allen too. I wasn't online and someone was reading each pick as they came in. When it was down to Jones and Allen I was sick cause I wanted both and had no clue how the Giants would go. Big fan of Ojulari and I thought he would be gone by pick 20, then by pick 42, then pick 50 comes and he was still there I could not believe it. Was so glad we got him. Best pass rusher in the draft IMO (said this before the draft too). Mike you are echoing my thoughts to a tee. Oh well Mike great minds think alike . I think Ojulari could be such a weapon for our defense. I too am so glad he was there in the 2nd rd. Guess his injury scared teams. Mike I am really excited about this defense this year. Can't wait to get going.

Tuck has his own injury concerns too. If he is close to Tuck, its a HR pick. Excited about him and the 2nd year safety Xavier McKinney on this defense.

lol … I used to crush Davis Webb on here and people would go crazy. When “the pressure got to him” in his first preseason start, I knew it was over. But that big notebook …. Webb couldn’t control a classroom of kindergartners. Let alone a bunch of rich men. Davis Webb folds faster than a bad poker hand.. I recall fans saying he should start. Thank God they don’t have a say in running the franchise. Webb.....ha! We got worked over by the FO on that pick and the media followed along like the lemings they are. Here is some of the crap we had to endure from various media outlets including the Daily News and NY Times: "Not only did the Giants need to find Manning’s eventually replacement, head coach Ben McAdoo seemed to want his own quarterback. Now he has it in Webb, who will also compete with Geno Smith and Josh Johnson in training camp."
"Webb drew a lot of intrigue a week before the NFL Draft, where some analysts considered him to be a first round prospect. During his senior year, Webb completed 382 out of 620 passes (61.6 percent) for 4,295 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Webb has drawn praise for his ability to stand tall in the pocket, as well as his poise when disrupted in the pocket."
"The GM made it clear the team hopes Manning continues to play for years to come but believe that Webb has a high ceiling when its time for the baton to be passed."
"The selection of Webb, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound quarterback from California, could have a profound impact on the franchise since he is viewed as a potential successor to Eli Manning, 36, who has three years remaining on his contract."

Most fans, me included are willing to accept the rosey scenarios coming out of a draft.....even though we hear the same worn out lines every year like "we were stunned that he was still on the board when our pick came up." I never go negative on individual draft picks until I see evidence that a guy doesn't have the goods to support a #3 pick. So, I was slow to the dance on Webb as well.

You are right he wont line up inside, but he could be in coverage more than Tuck was. I am looking for double digit sacks in most of the years he plays if he is healthy. IMO, a better prospect than a Lonzo Carter or Ximines.

Yep. I was one of those guys defending Webb. Wanted him to get more of a shot. I was wrong. Guilty as charged. You're not wrong for defending Webb as a prospect. His college career gave a reason to think he could be an eventual successor to Eli. Some players just don't have it. He's still kicking around though. The Bills like him, he's currently on a coaching track.

We don’t know what Jones is until he gets the protection he deserves. No qb is lighting it up consistently behind that line last year and before.

Well I can't get into the minds of these talking heads. I'm making an assumption because the rest of our team seems pretty strong....at least to me.
But who knows what their views are completely based on. Maybe it's the fact that we've been one of, if not the worst team in football over the last 10 seasons.
In general you don't see many, if any, analysts predict a team to go from bottom of a division to top of a division, even though it happens fairly frequently. I agree that many analysts don't see Jones as being a reason why the team would progress. But I also think they see Dak coming back as likely meaning the Cowboys make a big return, and they see the Redskins won the division despite their QB issues and think they can only be better with Fitz stepping in. Most projections I see have the Eagles at the bottom of the division, not the Giants. The Giants have a slow but upward trajector going, 2017 was about as bad as it gets, 2018 they drafted six guys and filled in the best they could with a small amount of cap space relative to the amount of roster up heavil because of so many players heading to free agency all the OL and LBs almost but a few 2 OL and 1 LB, All of this was compounded by the the 2016 spending spree, 2019 was a decent draft 2020 and 2021 drafts seem to be pretty good which coincides with the completion of the front office restructure, this years spending spree seems to really only effect 2022 they should have money to resign or sign who they need in the future. Think as you stated the Cowboys are a good team and will bounce back and Washington has turned the corner the division is gonna be competitive and tough, The Giants will have to earn the respect of the talking heads if they don't heads will roll the coach got a big infusion of guys he wanted I'm sure and the GM spent the money and did the drafting. There are reasons to be optimistic today but that will fade if they end up 7-10 6-11 should be interesting I want this to work out big time because I like Judge and really don't hate or love Gettlemen think he is smarter then most give him credit for.

You some that up perfectly J DJ was getting pummeled while making those plays also he had a very nice rookie year 3, 4TD games, that game was a testament to his toughness they hit him over and over but he got up and delivered. I watched a few people who know QB play talk on him Greg Cossell and Marc Scofield he has grown but has more to go.

We even passed him up at 42 That concern is odd. I think it was the insider podcast where he talked about never missing a practice or having any issues since the surgery in HS. And from our perspective, we only need his knee to hold for for 5-7 years. Not to sound harsh, but we're not worried about what his knee will be like when he's 40.

At least Webb is still in the league. Nassib has been out of football since being cut after 2 seasons. Barely.. He has one foot in the door, the other in unemployment. Webb should be coaching guess he is learning on the job for his future coaching career said thats what he wants to do if he can't play.

Right, but what team today can thrive only with good defense? They don’t even have a special running game. I have to stop and think about who their best player on offense is. McLaurin? And Fitz is just a bench QB. You need an offense to win in this league, they’re still half a team with so much more to prove than us or Dallas.

I don't think it’s whining to say there has always been an anti-NY bias around the country. They won the division. Not sure it's "respect" they've earned since the division was so bad, but it's all relative. We're still talking about the same 4 teams.
The only thing Washington was missing was a QB last year. Not saying Fitz is some all star. But they don't need one. They just need a solid vet to run the offense. He's also a great leader.
In my view Washington is the team to beat. They have talent all over the field on both sides of the ball. Now they have a competent guy behind center. And Chase Young?....Jeez. Now he has a year under his belt. He may be the best player in the division....at any position.
Aside from any imbalances injuries may cause, they are the best team right now......at least in my opinion.

What has Washington done to earn any respect? They've been the worst team in the division far longer than anyone else. I don't think it’s whining to say there has always been an anti-NY bias around the country. They won the division. Not sure it's "respect" they've earned since the division was so bad, but it's all relative. We're still talking about the same 4 teams.

I never understand why people feel that the media is out to get the Giants. They haven't been good for the most part of a decade. What else are they going to say? Washington is the team to beat in the NFCE, mainly because they won it and have improved. The Giants are right there, but need the QB to be at least average.
