20-25m/year for 4-5 years if he plays real well the rest of the way.

I'll know more of the answer at season's end. Let's hope he gets decent pass protection and see who all is healthy the remainder of the year also.

20-25m/year for 4-5 years if he plays real well the rest of the way. He and his agent would never agree to that if "he plays real well the rest of the way." That contract would be so below the market value. They don't have to agree to it now. A contract would be presented to them after he plays well. Not now. And a contract that averages out to be, say, 23m for a QB that has never had a winning season seems more than fair to me.

The contact numbers are irrelevant, since we’re not paying it... But at this point, I don't know why he wouldn't be extended.
But how could anyone quantify his value before the end of next year?

As of now or even at the end of the season, no way am I taking that chance. We can make all the excuses in the world but flashes and one good season is too risky IMO. Don’t need another Flacco, RG3, Bradford, Garopollo, etc type situation. Not saying he won’t eventually be worth it, he may very well be but I haven’t seen enough to justify that price tag yet and one good season isn’t enough for me.

We can sit here all day and argue what could have been in 2018 and 2019 if we drafted differently but that doesn't matter. We can sit here all day and make excuses/reasons why Jones' numbers are what they are, but that doesn't matter. We can sit here all day and compare Jones to other QBs or opine on what he would be like on a different team, but that doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is this question (and just ignore the 5th year option for now): Would you give Jones a 7 year, $200M, $130M guaranteed, $40M+ cap hit/yr type of contract (or whatever the similar going rate will be in 2022 or 2023)? Truly this is all that matters. And whether you believe the Giants should give him that contract or not is just another opinion* *which we can bicker about if it doesn't align with your opinion. Funny thing is that we don't need to decide that now. Because of the 5th year option we have quite a bit of time for that and who knows what contracts will look like then. 7 years 200 mill may only get you a 3rd string guard by that time. Sorry but I really struggle with the types of comments that include "ignore this very relevant and situation altering fact" and render your decision. At this time, no I wouldn't pay him that because you don't need to in order to retain him as your starting QB. Sorry, I'm not in the habit of offering an opinion without including relevant information.

Given how many QBs have gotten those types of deals and returned virtually nothing, I'd say that all things being equal at the end of his rookie deal he would get a market value contract.

Why make that decision before you have to?
Let him play until you have to pay him.
You don’t have to pay him right now.
So don’t.

People should not make any rash decisions pro or con right now.
Last seasons Eagles fans wanted Wentz gone.
This season Wentz is balling.

Why make that decision before you have to? Let him play until you have to pay him. You don’t have to pay him right now. So don’t. Okay, so you didn't read the first post? This conversation is predicated upon when the time comes to pay him. He's still growing as a QB, so how could anyone make that assessment? What was Eli's value in week 7 of his third year as opposed to the end of his 4th year? It's pointless to speculate. If Jones is the right QB for the team at the end of '22, then extend him. The market value of the salary is what it will be and makes no sense for us to argue.

Agree with all of this for me now next year is year 4 first he has to finish strong this year to possibly get the option then he has to perform better next to year actually get and keep it.

People should not make any rash decisions pro or con right now. Last seasons Eagles fans wanted Wentz gone. This season Wentz is balling. The Eagles made their stance clear when they extended Wentz with a 4 year, $128M, $108M guaranteed contract. I bet the Colts appreciate the Eagles trading him.

I'd like to see the guy play with a fully healthy offense & all his playmakers available before I can really make a decision on his future as the QB of the NY Giants.

If he’s proven he’s earned it by then, sure. Why wouldn’t we? QBs are hard to find.
Or is this like a thread that’s making another point like that you should never extend a QB because it hamstrings your team? You know, sort of like another “never take a RB in the top ten” type post.

I'll know more of the answer at season's end. Let's hope he gets decent pass protection and see who all is healthy the remainder of the year also. Pretty much. DJ has earned my respect though and it would pain me to see him do well on another team. I\. all in on DJ as a place holder for Archibald Manning.

Would you have given that to Josh Allen in October of last year? JOnes has not earned that in todays NFL stadards. Not many 2 1/2 season QBs do .

Obviously, this thread was meant to somewhat disparage Jones (however small a gesture). The question shouldn't even be asked until all the information is in, let alone being told to omit information that would greatly influence the answer.

to me he is not a 1st round 6th overall pick. To me he’s a 3rd rounder at best and it seems to me many of us are trying to see something there that just isn’t there because of his draft position. If he had been picked in a later round would we be having discussions like this ? Maybe there would be more posts about letting him walk. And no, I wouldn’t have taken Haskins either. That’s how a lot of teams spin their wheels. They force QB picks when they shouldn’t.

Some have an agenda against him regardless what he does.
