Yankees poised to strike at Winter Meetings Thirty-seven days passed with little comment from Yankees management after Everson Pereira struck out swinging for the final out of the club’s 2023 season, the young outfielder’s walk back toward the dugout setting into motion a crucial offseason.
During that period, managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner ordered an intensive three-day session at the club’s player development complex in Tampa, Fla., tasking general manager Brian Cashman and his baseball operations staff with identifying the issues that produced just 82 victories and the club’s lowest winning percentage since 1992. With the Winter Meetings set to take place in Nashville in a week, Steinbrenner and Cashman say that the Yankees are poised to strike.

Doesn't seem like we gave up that much for him. That's what I'm thinking. Analyst will post about the prospects we gave up I'm sure.

Gross. Typical Cashman. Verdugo is the picture perfect player for the Red Sox. Dirt red beard, scumbag. Reminds me of when they got Kevin Youkilis. It funny how excited Morehead was getting Verdugo and Downs for Betts from the Dodgers.... Yeah talk about a terrible trade for the Red Sox. Also, this assures we are out of the Soto trade. And Stanton keeps us out of the Ohtani sweepstakes. As for the prospects we gave up. dealing more of our pitching prospects. Fitts is interesting. A RHP who would have been a 1st round pick if he didnt injure his foot in college. Big frame, 6'3" 230 pounder. Came on strong in A+ ball after a rough start, 0.55 ERA with a 38/3 K/BB ratio his last 33 IP. Mid 90s fastball with movement. Also has a big sweeping slider. He was the #12 prospect headed into 2024 for the Yankees. Most likely a reliever in the bigs. Weissert pitched a few innings for the Yankees last year. He looked ok. He is 29 years old. Not sure about Judice. Verdugo is a lefty bat, not much power, .280 hitter. Doesnt steal bases. Has a so-so OBP. Really just another guy to clog the OF. Id rather use a prospect out there to be honest, but he is a proven MLB hitter so, maybe a 4th OF type. Maybe start LF if Cabrera/Pereira dont pick it up?

Hmmm
My Guess is it would include Dominguez or #1 prospect Spencer along with Oswald Peraza and MLB ready pitchers like Schmidt and King.
EDIT: lots of chatter about the Pads right now... Wondering if Verdugo would be flipped to SD in something.

He kind of sounds a lot like Melky Cabrera to be honest. Not a bad thing.

not a big fan of Verdugo, just something about how he carries himself that rubs me the wrong way, guess I'll have to change my tune now, lol, embrace the suck...
It would be sweet to land Soto, as long as we don't have to give up crazy talent to do so, as he will cost a fortune to keep, and is not really worth a one year rental, so if we make the trade, rest assured we'll pay him.

I think him being in his final year of his contract helps teams trying to trade for him. It will still cost many good players and prospects to land him however. And whatever team does, will sign have to sign him to a 12 year contract for $500M+.

The unfortunate thing is we also need starting pitching. Hope they get involved in the Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes if they deal multiple MLB pitchers

Juan Soto
A generational player.
Welcome to the Bronx!
Let's see the full trade details but I'll tell ya what, I'm pretty ****ing excited about this one. One of my favorite players since he was 19.
25 now. Lock him up another 10 years please.
Judge, Soto, Dominguez in the OF with Verdugo as the #4. That 3 lefty bats and Judge.
