If you aren’t paying, coaches move on. You cheap out and say I can find a coordinator at a better price and you get what you deserve. Ownership has everything to do with it.

I think we are forgetting that he left on his own to become a head coach and then the second time around as DC he didn't do all that great and it was during TC's decline. Hell, the first time around as DC his defenses took a while to get going.

Someone explain to me how we were keeping Spags after Mac got fired (and kept Spags after Coughlin "retired")?
Forcing Pat Shurmur to keep him? Giving him the head coaching job?

Time is the great opinion smoother.
Few remember how many fans were screaming for TC’s head the year before he won his first SB. Same with the next one. There was no Andy Reid Mike Tomlin following for TC. He was a polarizing HC. Doesn’t seem like it now.
Same thing with Eli.
Spags was an amazing DC when he was winning a SB with us but as another poster mentioned he hit a real rough patch after leaving.
Our fan base (well, any fanbase) isn’t know for “patience”.
Much more tuned to asking for people to be fired vs retained.

Don’t you remember what it was like being able to look forward to your same people coming back season after season and remaining competitive? Remember Parcells staff? Are you too young? Just asking, because it used to be that way. There wasn’t always constant hiring and firing and losing players in this organization. We were awesome.

Hell, the first time around as DC his defenses took a while to get going. Speaking of forgetting.. His second stint with us we had the second best defense in the sport. It took Mara opening up his wallet and giving him the tools to work with. Only reason he didn’t survive to see it through was McAdoo got axed midseason.. And being the senior assistant he jumped on that grenade and lost half his face and his job. He solidified himself in granite after winning his fourth chip as an assistant. This season where the Chiefs offense was stuck in the mud.. It was their defense that carried them to their third championship in five years. Move over New England.. The big red machine is now the next dynasty in the making.

The Business side of it has changed for the players ,Coaches and Owners rules were added to stop teams from stopping Coaches moving from place to place..Went to my first real game not count pre season games in 61, how young are you?

Why do you even watch the NFL then? We watch the Giants out of tradition. We remember and talk. We used to have shitloads of fun. We used to go to this one bar years ago and everyone there wore their teams jerseys. We live down in Eagles territory but it didn’t matter we were all friends. We used to yell and scream all day, then take a break and have dinner and stick around for the night game. They made good money that day, I’ll tell you. There was like 50 of us. So much fun.

well timing and time matters as some get better and better and better as he did. Sometimes their time with a particular team isn't stellar but they end up being so later on. He was very very good with us; great not sure but we can all Monday morning QB things.
but how we've been over last 10-15 years it's hard for us to look at things as in us being a model franchise.........

Giants gave him his first shot he was Philly's DB coach he has turned into an excellent DC no doubt about it he learned from the late great Jim Johnson. Spags went back to his roots with Andy Reid and it has paid off he is a talented Coach and he has a pretty talented young defensive roster.

They hated Odells antics until we traded him away. They would killed for an OL coach like the 49ers have, then we sign Solari and people hate it.
The grass is always greener someplace else, then when we get that same grass people are pissed.

The NFL is designed by rule to score when a D is keeping team around 19 to 21 points a game they are good of course every D gets a shot or 2 at a pathetic offense like the Giants, that will make average drop some. Like the Cowterds ands Eagles get 2 games each against the Giants and the Commando's for that matter. The Chiefs don't have as many slouches they get the Raiders twice a year but that D is legit and they showed it last night. Spags understood the niners run game and also understood Purdy as a QB he knew he was an excellent processor and a good creator he also understood he has 50 yard arm 55 really stretching it so they tried to keep the lid on and deal with 0-15 and 15 to 25 maybe 30 yard routes it kept them under 20 with OT. Spags new his environment and formed and excellent plan to win, they were close to getting run over tho in the run game think they hung on just enough to discourage them trying to run them into the ground. I think if there was any mistake at all Shanny could have been a bit more patient with the run and I'm not saying there was because they had the LOS crowded.

People are blind to the fact it is 2 different teams with much different talent levels Spags its a very good DC but you gat to have players not 2 or 3. Like the idea of drafting Mahomes we could have traded up but they would have never developed him properly as the chiefs did. We did not have a playoff team to plug him into and still don't mostly because then and now the OL was never good enough to develop a young QB.

After the McDuffie hold, I thought the Chiefs were cooked. It's so hard to play defense in OT. Looked like the Niners were going to walk it in. Spags with that red zone D. That was his trademark here. Basically won the game by holding them to a FG.

The Chiefs do have a really good D though, they were 2nd in PA and Yards. I know Mahommes and Reid are amazing but that D is the reason they won. In the AFCCG they held the #4 scoring O to 10 points. That 10-3 halftime score would have been way worse if not for the D.
