I have a bad feeling that Darnold lights up our defense Fri night.
All the stars are aligned for him to go out and “prove” the Giants wrong for passing him up. Our secondary is brutal and pass rush is not there... combine that with the fact the jets are always out to prove something in week 3 of preseason, their intensity will be up while I believe the Giants are still going to look “heady” (thinking too much) and unproven in key areas.
Is Barkley playing? If not the NYC market is going to have a field day rehashing the 2018 draft. At least for one week until the next game is played.

I have a feeling Darnold will fold like a chair the way Stafford did last game vs our pass rush.

I watched both jets games after the fact and the kid looks on point. I’m sure he also wants to go out and prove the Giants made a mistake too. Like I said...stars are aligned.

I have, the o line has done a good job protecting him so far. If the Giants bring the heat like they have so far then they'll make him look like a rookie that he is.

I don't think Barkley is going to play this week, but since I'm not an astronomer, I can't discuss stars' alignments. Seriously though, I think we have a good chance, Jets looked better week 1 than week 2. We looked better week 2 than week 1, lets see these trends continue.

I could certainly see the Jets believing that winning a practice is somehow meaningful. As you indicate it doesn’t prove anything or mean anything but the media caters to morons so I could see a good Jets performance keeping them drooling for a few days.

He'll certainly be getting a ton of blitz looks from our scheme.

So what if Darnold lights us up on Friday night, it's only preseason and that doesn't mean our team made the wrong pick. At the end of the day Blake Bortles looked like a stud in preseason for the Jaguars as a rookie (and has pretty much every preseason), yet come regular season he had a pretty rough ride as their rookie quarterback and since then he has blown hot and cold. Plenty of prospects through the years have been impressive in preseason but struggled in regular season, and others have been lackluster in preseason but impressive in regular season. It's preseason. Now if Darnold lights us up every time he plays us in the regular season for the next decade, wins a Super Bowl, and we get stuck in mediocrity - fine - at that point let's criticize the pick. But one preseason game doesn't make Darnold the next great quarterback because plenty of other quarterbacks have impressed in preseason but never made it to the big boys table when it really matters. Maybe Darnold will make it to that table, then again maybe he won't. Who knows? For me I still believe we made the right pick going for Barkley because we are committed to Eli Manning and "win now". In time maybe we'll regret that choice if we don't win and struggle to find Eli's replacement while the Jets have success with Darnold, but it is way too early to worry about the Darnold and Barkley debate. That discussion needs to happen 3-5 years down the line when these players are established in the league.

Apple and Jenkins looked very sharp last week with tight coverage, physical play, and keeping things in front of them.
Have the Jets even announced when Darnold's playing? If he plays against our ones I see our defense having some fun against him.

I'm talking about one game, in week 3 of the preseason, 4 months after he was drafted. And Darnold doesn't need to light us up once every 4 years to "prove" anything. If he turns into a franchise QB that is reliable and dependable, then looking back in hindsight is warranted.

You mean Darnold might beat us in a preseason game? Hope someone gives him a cookie.
I sure hope Barkley is not playing. There's no sense in playing him for the remainder of preseason. Let that hammy heal up so he can light it up come week 1.

The JETS are like the cowboys without the 4 S-bowls. Just mouthin off as usual. There great in practice, good in preseason and mediocre in the regular season. The Jets haven't won a SB since 1969 (almost 50 yrs ago) There gonna need more then this rookie QB to be a winner again.

Pass rush has been solid and Vernon is a BEAST thus far :-/

What if Webb and/or Lauletta light up the Jets? What will that prove?

If Darnold lights us up, and Saquon doesn't even play......
I would get a decent chuckle out of that before pulling my hair out.....(I'm already bald)

Has he been a beast? He always makes a quiet impact, but I have not seen anything that stands out. I have noticed that we collapse the pocket more but I attributed that to the interior DL.... What have you observed with OV? I try to focus on the new guys

What if Webb and/or Lauletta light up the Jets? What will that prove? Exactly. It proves nothing. When you have the 1's going after you all game long the truth will be told. And your body of work is the entire season against the 1's. Lets see how Mayfield does as well when they throw exotic blitz's at him and Darnold. PreSeason is for the writers that need to write something and the guy who wants to make the 53 who is sitting on the fence.

What if Webb and/or Lauletta light up the Jets? What will that prove? That they're better than the jets' 2s and 3s? But I'm pretty sure no one cares about comparing selecting ArDarius Stewart 8 spots ahead of Davis Webb in the 3rd round or Chris Herndon one spot ahead of Kyle Lauletta in the 4th round or their respective drafts. If you don't see how the Barkley and Darnold pick will be heavily tied to one another for their careers, then I don't know what to tell ya.

He is getting pressure on the QB and he just seems a step quicker IMO

I would think the Giants playing Barkley with a hamstring would be the big news Darnold has zero to prove to the NYGs.

It's all about the Giants passing up on a potential franchise QB when their current one is at the end of his career. That's the narrative. It's been that since the end of the 2017 season. It just so happens the jets picked directly after us in the top 3. And I strongly believe he has something to "prove" against the Giants... and the rest of the league. It just so happens he's playing the team who chose to select a RB over him one spot ahead in the draft.

Maybe if he was projected 1 or 2 and he was drafted 15th he would have something to prove the rest of the league. All he has something to prove to is the NYJs and their fans

Wouldn’t this be the narrative for all of the 5 or 6 teams that have old QBs that didn’t draft a QB in the last draft? Particularly those with good teams since they’re already relevant, closer to a potential championship and do not need to rebuild most of their roster like the Giants do? That would seem to me to be the more obvious story. Maybe it is but I don’t read other teams’ message boards so I wouldn’t know.

Assuming you're talking about the Pats, Steelers, Saints, Packers, and Chargers... they picked (in order of draft) 14th, 17th, 18th, 28th and 31st. That's a far cry from 2nd overall. Especially when there was all but one QB of your choice available. And one of which was picked directly after you by a "rival" in the same market.
