Well **** Jones,its more important to keep throwing assets at the defense,especially ones from low priority positions than to surround the most important player on the team in probably his most important year of development |

We going to overpay for a barely average LT again because we neglected to get one of the rare actual really good ones fundamentally because OmG wE hAvE tO hAvE tHiS gEnErAtIoNaL groundbreaking bEsT eVeR pLaYeR bEcAuSe OuR dEfEnSe WaS bAd LaSt yEaR aNd OnLY mOrOnS wAnT tHe OfFeNsE tO iMpRoVe... There are nice pieces day 2 to add and day 3 A high risk boom or bust athlete who played well.because he.was a.hokd athlete is a horrible decision over taking someone who will help the most important player on the team in his most important year of development.. This years hypothetical 1st round tackle starts at RT this year anyway..its what teams do usually unless they have Flowers or Greg Robinson starting at LT. Hernandez with a better C will improve.. If the front office makes this disastrous decision and we miss out on a tackle this year and have basicly hopes and prayers at tackle while the Redskins get Young... |

I'm quite certain DG's plan does not involve reliance on Solder again, and missing another draft without bolstering the offensive tackle and center spots... This entire Simmons lust is nice, the guy's a great cover backer/safety who can chase down runs from the weak side...not knocking what he does, and his talent...but Gettleman will lose his job if Jones stumbles, fumbles or crumbles...and Barkley does need more then helmet to helmet up front.... Now, I'd agree that maybe he has plans to reach in the 2nd round...just in case, but he tried that last year...gave a presser answering the exact question...why did you not get a OT when you said you were going to draft one?... and he said the value slipped....teams reached and none were left. This will NOT happen this year...it can't for his sake, and the Giants Logic now, and not knocking Simmons...just knowing where all the tells are pointing towards, rightfully aimed directly at an OT. I'll be in the draft section in case anybody needs more wisdom  |

To be honest, Taking Simmons at 4 seems like more of a risk than we should be taking. He was a tremendous college player, is a tremendous athlete, but he doesn’t even have a clearly defined position. I can’t see taking him at 4 over someone to protect Jones blindside or trading down to accumulate more picks.

Six tackles could be gone in the first round; value-wise, a center at 36 might make more sense. Cam is already an upgrade over Remmers at RT and we might be looking at Solder at LT no matter what.
If they want to draft a LT and release Solder, then by all means grab Thomas at 4, if the're committing to Solder at LT for another year to protect DD's blindside, even though he was horrific last season, then how can they pass up Simmons at 4?
It's very difficult for Gettleman to convince me that remaking the line is paramount if he brings back someone who at LT gave up more pressures on the QB than any other tackle in the game.
Nate Solder and Mike Remmers combined for the most pressures allowed (97) by a tackle duo in the NFL.

My take has been, and will be that unless Young falls to us, or a team offers us a nice package to trade down (I would not trade out of top 10 either) we need to take whichever tackle the team likes the best. To me, its Thomas, but I'd be psyched with any of them. Perfect world is we trade down with Miami or LA Chargers (it feels funny typing this!!) and still get the tackle of our choice.
I do get the fascination with Simmons, I just don't think he's worth taking over the tackles available in this draft, especially give our need in that area.

I haven't seen Ruiz go ahead of us yet in any of the mocks the guys paid to do this have done yet,I still see him and Cushenburry as the 2 top centers sitting there when we pick in these.. Personally at 36 we are in the sweet spot for a lot of positions possibly,C,2nd level defender(Baun,Uche,Anae,Okwara),WR,even secondary if we want to go that route(though the 2 FS that could be there,Delpit and McKinney..great ball skills...horrific tackling,I'd rather love get the chance back there because at least he can tackle) Unfortunately tackle by that time will.be a huge reach and if we bypass one of the fab 4 we probably are reaching here for a 3rd/4th round graded guy,which makes bypassing one of them for a high risk toy even worse. The real dilemma becomes if we cant figure out a way to find another draft pick between 36 and 99...because a lot of really good football players will.come off the board.. So.we.have to project which position will still be deep come pick 99... Reciever we definitely can wait on until 99 as we have seen ..I love Reagor..but Dumerney or even Watkins at 5 have the same skillsets.. Honestly,a strategic reach as I like to call it on center of choice is the right thing to do I'd we can't get a trade back because we have to also remember we are now in direct competition for a day one starter at C with Dallas. |

I just don't know how you'l manage 2 LT's. it's not a bad problem, I just don't see any realistic way except Solder back at LT. Maybe we get him the extra help that Shurmur consistently failed to do, leaving him 1-1 against some of the top edge rushers. This all based on how we feel about Simmons. I will be happy either way. I'm just pointing out that passing the fab 4 doesn't equate to franchise doom. |

I have seen 2 articles maybe 3 in the last week to 10 days that think Ruiz could sneak into the end of round 1. I believe 1 was generated from a Michigan media coverage outlet. I read Maize n Brew - Mlive Wolverines - Free Press Wolverines - more than likely one of those is where I read it. At least one national source also had an article on it. |
