i think for the first game, there were some nice adjustments. some great drives and imaginative plays. he will have to figure out how to get barkley the ball in space and maybe rush someone else more under center. overall i liked what i saw for the first game to know there is potential there.

Yeah Dame out and did exactly what I wanted them to Mostly 12,out of shotgun, lots of uptempo When the line actually gells I think tbis will be a really good offense

Yeah Garrett's play calling wasn't close to the problem. He did a great job with the talentless void of an offend that we have.

Saw a few plays the Boys have killed us with under JG, employed and successful. Namely the misdirection pass to Toilolo on 3rd and short that Dallas killed us with for years with Witten, loved that.

I agree with you. His play calling wasn’t vanilla but the fact is they gave us 3 points. We only managed one long pass to Slayton for 6 points. I don’t count garbage points so basically our offense put up 7 on our own. Not wonderful for an OC

I liked Garrett 1st game as OC too. That long drive in the 4th was impressive. I thought Jones played well but he forced the INT. Andrew Thomas looked solid...looked far from a bust.

Totally agree. Kaden Smith need to be tbe starter. Gallman needs a chance to run between the tackles.

I personally like what Garrett served. We were in this game we were in the thick of it for awhile even with barkley running for negative yards. A couple mistakes by DJ, a few from Engram, and our oline crumbling it wasn't that bad all things considered. Let's see what they look like midseason.. we'll know alot by then.

And of course still not a single game with Jones, Slayton, Shepard, Engram, Tate and Barkley all healthy. Tate would have been nice to have out there tonight.

I thought Pittsburgh had much more creative run plays. Garrett just ran Barkley into a brick wall.

Well done Jason, the boys came ready to play. We have something to build on. It is great to have an adult as OC.
As a side note, we have 1 and probably 2 TE better than Engram as every down tight ends. On passing downs, if you want a guy who can't catch the ball, insert Engram.

I was disappointed with EE think Smith gave them more.

I dont expect Engram to last the season on our team. He actually hurts us. I mean are you a blocker? Are you going to catch a pass? Are you going to do anything constructive. If not Cya , put the Smith kid in asap.

2 plays killed us this game. The drive for Pittsburgh at the end of the half. For the life of me Julian, quit trying to strip the ball and put his ass on the ground to force a field goal. The other was the long drive forced Int by Jones. Both plays changed the game. Those plays cant happen.

If not Cya , put the Smith kid in asap. Smith is just fine in a classic TE way. Engram is an updated version of Travis Beckum, too small and not interested in blocking and not fleet enough to be a WR. JR screwed up twice with that "freak athlete" approach to drafting TEs. Engram is not much more than a bunch of hyperbolic headlines about what's coming this year in a new and "improved" version of himself. Deadly to read articles like that. And btw way, that penalty on him may have been 50/50 but why did he have to engage with that hand in the first place? He gave the zebra the opportunity to throw the flag and he obliged. We need to move on from Engram.

Those two plays were the difference.

He absolutely would have made a difference. Tate is a savvy WR and is a nice security blanket and finds his way into open spaces he was missed and will be missed.

Thought the up tempo offense was really refreshing at the start, then of course, Engram had the first drop. That no huddle caught me by surprise.
Wasnt a huge fan of the empty backfield, especially with the way Fleming and Gates performed. DJ definitely has the ball placement for the quick game to say the least.

Thought he got better as the night went on there was at least 4 times dupree had no one over him and he had a free run not sure who was supposed to deal with him but when Thomas was one on one he handled him pretty good. He didn't have a flowers type game where he was upped one on one over and over

If he was Zeke he would be running behind one of the better OLs in the game they aren't as complete as they were but they still are formidable they suffered a few injuries so Dallas might slip little .

If he was Zeke he would be running behind one of the better OLs in the game they aren't as complete as they were but they still are formidable they suffered a few injuries so Dallas might slip little . I see Zeke get hit behind the line and I'm happy, but then see him carry those guys and still somehow get 3 4 yards out of it and I'm like, "man I wish Barkley could do that." They are different runners. I like Zekes style much more. He is physical. He moves people and breaks tackles every play. It takes too many plays for Barkley to finally be effective.
