More than 77%? You make it look like we are getting torched not at Bradberry . We are not. At least not in either game I watched . Ben had a 65.6% .Trubisky had a 64.3% It has been refreshing the secondary does not look clueless. I expected much worse. Ballentine has been beat, numerous times. Never said the secondary is getting torched. Aren’t you now putting words in my mouth? Let’s have this discussion again once they play great quarterbacks. you know I like hanging onto the underdog type players. As a 6th rounder asked to start with his introduction into the NFL is a difficult situation. He's been smoked o a few a plays but he has also played well a times. Seems pretty normal for a player with his draft position. Its up to him to work harder to get better

He is giving up a TD every 88 snaps. Bradberry is giving up 1 TD every 65 snaps. I think Balintine has been covering his man / zone preety good. He has given up 5 receptions. Our problem is not our corners or safeties. They have been targetrd 44 times out of 60 73% of the time, for 28 recptions. Completion percentage of 63% . Well below the NFl avarage . Our secondary is doing well. Our underneath coverage (LBs) have been targeted 16 times for 11 completions 69%.

With a corner you only see the passes completed ,not the times the qb didn't throw it 8n his direction because he had good coverage(just like O linemen with sacks given up and penalties)

Do any of us remember the 2 TDs Bradburry gave up? The one that Ballentine gave up is etched in our memories

He is keeping everything in front of him and tackling, my hope is that like Bradberry who came from a small school the game will slowdown for him and he will grow as the year or say years go by.

They are not picking on him (QBs). Judge has stated personnel will be utilized to the situation. Is Yiadom taking over or or had a higher snap count due to circumstance? Time will tell.

The secondary also looks better because of the QB's we faced and the fact that teams have been killing us with the run. We'll get a better test in the coming weeks against the Rams and Cowboys. But that is a steep drop of play time and there is a reason for it. I hope that continues until we don't see him outside nickel packages.

When your a new starter and a 6th rounder to boot people aren't so for giving. Every player coach fan have different expectations, for me this was the first real developmental year where we have several 1st 2nd and 3rd year players all growing at different rates and still none are finished at the end of the year hopefully our 3rd year guys are playing really well so far Carter and Hill seem to be really coming along, Ballentine is more like a first year kid he lost time last year he has the physical tools to play in this league now it's a matter if he can match that with the technique necessary to be consistently good.

One of those plays that gets burnt into a coaches memory. You could also say he never should have had that much time in the pocket to make that throw. Most times bad plays have multiple reasons. I didn't rewatch the game but it was perplexing that on several plays the Giants shadowed Trubisky and didn't rush him they ended up with 4 sacks they were winning up front in the passing game. That said that ball was like a punt it was in the air for a long time, I think if Ballentine doesn't fall I think he breaks it up at the very least even with the extended time.

I just re-watched it on the coaches film. Initially it was well covered, but when the wr saw no one was open he turned and ran into the end zone. Ballentine got fooled and was at least 3-4 yards behind the receiver on the route into the end zone and was still behind him while running around the end zone. He actually fell down trying to reach the wr while the ball was in the air because he had no position on the wr or the ball. The Giants initially only rushed with 3 players and then Cam Brown came in late. They had no down DL on the field - this was that "amoeba" D. Way to much time for the QB in the pocket.

I also posted about the Giants having the #4 defense and 2nd overall passing defense, mainly for fun. Drawing any conclusions after 2 weeks of a 16-game schedule is pointless. The Steelers defense was ranked at the bottom of the league after 4 games last year and became the 5th overall defense. With the lack of practice time to work out their playbook, teams around the league are leaning heavy on the run. I think you'll see a similar ratio by the Niners Sunday. I like what I've seen from the defense, but the real tests are coming.

you know I like hanging onto the underdog type players. As a 6th rounder asked to start with his introduction into the NFL is a difficult situation. He's been smoked o a few a plays but he has also played well a times. Seems pretty normal for a player with his draft position. I normally don’t go the stat route, but you seem hell bent on making this argument strictly on stats. So, I did some digging up myself. He has allowed 8 receptions so far, that’s 4 a game. 80% of the throws against him have been caught. Opposing passer rating is 143.3. And of course he has allowed 1 touchdown. Again, he’s not a bum. But, he is our weakest link. As for Bradberry, how did you come up with 1 touchdown every 65 snaps? Are you going by his 130 snap count? And that he has given up 2 touchdowns?

Thanks Don. Had to fix spell check.

You should be able to figure that on your own Even if as you say he allowed 8 receptions. Where did the other 52 pass attempts go? If he is a bad as you think. Why not just throw at him? Ben and Mitch are not stupid. Both OCs are not stupid. Both HCs are not stupid. What are you seeing in his coverage skill, that they are not , and I say this because he is not getting picked on. He has been covering is zone / man adequately. I thought he wold be the "weak link" as you say . The evidance would support it . It just dosen't . He is young and will have his share of bad plays / games. The 6th rounder is holding his own on the field and seems to be a good pick. And this is comming from someone that wanted him cut 3 weeks ago.

Ben has an avarage QBR of 108 over 2 games and Trubisky has a 92. Both teams were even between pass and Run plays. So how exackly did both opposing teams make our secondary appear better than it is? Just because when they ran the ball. They were able to . Does not make our corners and safeties appear better in coverage.

The thing about stats, they can be disproved. And that he has given up 2 touchdowns? www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BallCo00.htmBrilliantine 5 receptions Where is your link? As far as Bradberry The math is not rocket science . And this is comming from someone that wanted him cut 3 weeks ago. www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/corey-ballentine/First, I didn’t say he was picked on, I said that as the season continues the ball will be thrown towards Ballentine more than Bradberry. And who said 52 attempts? The ball has only been thrown towards Ballentine 10 times. And out of those 10 pass attempts there was 8 completions. Hence, the 80% completion percentage. And why haven’t they thrown towards Ballentine more often? Who knows.. It has only been two games, and if you do the math he’s averaging 5 pass attempts a game against him. Could it be Ben was extremely rusty, and the Steelers offense was killing us on the ground? Could it be that Trubisky and the Bears offense ran for over 130 yards on the ground. Are you seeing a pattern here? My point, which I think has been beaten to death now. Is that Ballentine will start to see more passes towards him as the season goes on. I want to see how he plays when we actually play a offense with an adequate play for the QB position. You say he’s not a weak link, I do. No further reason to try to prove the other person wrong. We’re both digging our heels with our opinions on this. Remember, we’re playing a QB today by the name of Nick Mullens. Another QB, that will skew fans thinking of our pass defense. Edit: I know the math to Bradberry. I wanted you to explain it to the class how you got it..

After building leads, Rothlisberger and Trubisky only threw 10 passes each in the second half... If you want to declare we have a superior secondary based on those 2 games go right ahead. I'm encouraged by what I've seen but I'll wait for a real test.
