Having a former head coach as a position coach is as good as it gets in terms of knowledge and experience. It can, depending on the circumstances. Kitchens was given only one season, declared a failure league wide, and as I said - this is a major demotion, to the worst team in football no less. I think you're missing the point. It’s a demotion for him, a huge coaching upgrade for us.

This is a lack of practice situation O.K., you said yourself in another thread - Shurmur was actually using them better, to their (at least Engram's) strengths. So if Kitchens is an upgrade, and he's familiar with Garret and his system... what gives?
I could offer that they are being kept close to the line, to help out that new, evolving unit. But their play is not helping me with this idea.

Shurmur never had a year either where the team basically had to figure out who could do what into the first 4 weeks of the season as well.. All indications were in camp that Engram improved blocking inline ...this was the only look Kitchens had at this ... Its now obvious he didn't.. This goes for the entire offense as well,

This goes for the entire offense as well, It seems what we have for this season at WR is what it is, much to our disdain. I feel a bit of improvement on the line, the running game is actually better - their blocking too. Perhaps we will see the TEs moved out a bit and going in motion sooner, maybe this Sunday, even.

Going into 2021 we have to address WR and if Jones is our QB give him so legit weapons. I say we take a WR early. Maybe 2nd or 3rd round but I also feel we have to sign a Vet. Who would you want from this list of available FA’s in 2021 Allen Robinson Keenan Allen Chris Godwin Cooper Kupp Kenny Golladay Someone Else Or stick with Sheppard, Slayton and......... I think, and I'm sure JJ would also say that you look to improve your team all the time. But is the current problem the WRs talent or a failure of the offense as a whole to get the job done? The lack of a consistent running game, and poor pass protection has been a problem, but the O-line is making some progress. Personally I think defenses are attacking the box, and on passing downs playing the short game because they are not afraid of the intermediate to feel passing game. We have to throw these longer routes even if unsuccessful to keep them honest and be less predictable. I don't it's the WRs talent holding is back. Although I would like to eventually see us get some taller receivers that can contest balls better.
